The hoatzin (Opisthocomus hoazin), also known as the stinkbird, or Canje pheasant, is a species of tropical bird found in swamps, riparian forest and mangrove of the Amazon and the Orinoco Delta in South America. It is notable for having chicks that possess claws on two of their wing digits. It is the only member of the genus Opisthocomus (Ancient Greek: "wearing long hair behind", referring to its large crest), which in turn is the only extant genus in the family Opisthocomidae. The taxonomic position of this family has been greatly debated, and is still far from clear. This video is targeted to blind users. One of the world's strangest birds attempts to walk along a branch, loses his balance, grabs hold of a twig with its bill, then flies a short way. Magic.

Hoatzin Bird in the Amazon.
Another strange bird of the Amazon. Pretty common really and easy to observe... but a definite highlight none the less.
Here's an 8-bit cover I made for "Skyway (Hurricane Hoatzin Stage)" by Nitroflasher (http://www.youtube.com/user/NitroFlasher), a robot master theme for the Mega Man X: Corruption fan game currently in development. This is my 3rd 8-bit cover song in the 2a03 format and no DPCM track. With this song, I wanted to make it as a challenge to myself. I feel there is already a superior cover in the MMC5 format out there (link provided below), but I couldn't find a 2a03 version so I figured why not. I really enjoyed making this and I hope you enjoy listening to it. Feel free to offer feedback and constructive criticism. -Vic Software used: Famitracker 0.4.1 Original Song: "Skyway (Hurricane Hoatzin Stage)" by Nitroflasher https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdoRRKcDOj8 Mega Man X: Corruption developer YouTube page: http://www.youtube.com/user/jkbproductions An awesome MMC5 cover by ChiptunedRaijin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nfFWGfCijk

The Hoatzin (Opisthocomus hoazin), also known as the Hoactzin, Stinkbird, or Canje Pheasant, is a species of tropical bird found in swamps, riverine forest and mangrove of the Amazon and the Orinoco delta in South America. It is notable for having chicks that possess claws on two of their wing digits.
It is the only member of the genus Opisthocomus (Ancient Greek: "wearing long hair behind", referring to its large crest[clarification needed]), which in turn is the only extant genus in the family Opisthocomidae. The taxonomic position of this family has been greatly debated, and is still far from clear.
The Hoatzin is pheasant-sized, with a total length of 65 centimetres (26 in), with a long neck and small head. It has an unfeathered blue face with maroon eyes, and its head is topped by a spiky, rufous crest. The long, sooty-brown tail is broadly tipped buff. The upperparts are dark, sooty-brown-edged buff on the wing coverts, and streaked buff on the mantle and nape. The underparts are buff, while the crissum, primaries, underwing coverts and flanks are rich rufous-chestnut, but this is mainly visible when it opens its wings. The alternative name of "stinkbird" is derived from the bird's manure-like odour, caused by its digestive system.[citation needed] The Hoatzin is herbivorous, eating leaves and fruit, and has an unusual digestive system with an enlarged crop used for fermentation of vegetable matter, in a manner broadly analogous to the digestive system of mammalian ruminants.
If we're lucky we feel our lives know when the next scene arrives
So often we start in the middle and work our way out
We go to some gray sky diner for eggs and toast
New York Times or the New York Post
Then we take a ride through the valley of the shadow of death
But even for us New Yorkers
There's a time in every day
The river takes our breath away
And the Hudson, it holds the life
We thought we did it on our own
The river roads collect the tolls for the passage of our souls
Through silence, over woods, through flowers and snow
And past the George Washington Bridge
Down from the trails of Breakneck Ridge
The river's ancient path is sacred and slow
And as it swings through Harlem
It's every shade of blue
Into the city of the new brand new
And the Hudson yeah, it holds the life
We thought we did it on our own
I thought I had no sense of place or past
Time was too slow, but then too fast
The river takes us home at last
Where and when does the memory take hold
Mountain range in the Autumn cold
And I thought West Point was Camelot in the spring
If you're lucky you'll find something that reflects you
Helps you feel your life protects you
Cradles you and connects you to everything
This whole life I remember
As they begged them to itself
Never turn me into someone else
And the Hudson yeah, it holds the life
We thought we did it on our own
And the Hudson yeah, holds the life
Hudson died in Hudson bay,
The water took its victim's name,
Now rivers rise told riverside,
To change their names again.
(Choral humming)
A stranger walked in through the door,
Said “All apartments are pre-war”,
We laughed and asked him for his name,
He stayed until the end.
We watched the Germans play the Greeks,
He marked the ninety-nine-year lease,
Our fathers signed which I declined,
To try and comprehend.
(Choral humming)
Over and over again are these never-ending visions,
Over and over again like a prize that's changing hands,
The time has come,
The clock is such a drag,
All you who change your stripes,
Can wrap me in the flag.
The legendary wooden gate,
First established real-estate,
It's lost a time like other crimes,
Though on this pleasant land.
Over and over again are these never-ending visions,
Over and over again like a prize that's changing hands,
The time has come,
The clock is such a drag,
All you who change your stripes,
Can wrap me in the flag.
(Choral humming)
Hudson died in Hudson bay,
But I was born on Sutton Place,
The rising tide helped me decide,
To change my name again.
Some men tend to linger on,
And some make haste from Babylon,
Some were on the ruined home,
Rejoicing... To the end.
Over and over again are these never-ending visions,
Over and over again like a prize that's changing hands,
The time has come,
The clock is such a drag,
All you who change your stripes,
Can wrap me in the flag.
The lines are drawn,
The map is such a drag,
All you who change your stripes,
Can wrap me in the flag.
