In 2011, a severe lack of rainfall led to drought in Mauritania. Crop production fell. Families and livestock went hungry.Malnutrition rates were high; up to 22 per cent in Brakna region.The Mauritanian Red Crescent and IFRC responded, supporting 28 women's cooperatives.
