The leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution has warned against enemy plots to undermine a wave of Islamic Awakening, by provoking sectarian conflict among Muslims. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says enemies have clung to the hope that a Shia-Sunni war could subvert Islamic Awakening, for which reason they've been fueling civil conflicts in the region. Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the crisis in Iraq, saying that remnants of the former regime of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and a bunch of ignorant people are perpetrating the crimes there. Wisam al-Hardan's cellphone rang late into the night. He let it ring on and on. He couldn't bear to answer.
Al-Hardan, a leader in the Sunni tribal militias that allied with the U.S. to help turn the tide against al-Qaida in Iraq, knew what the Sunni fighters on the other end of the line wanted: weapons to fight the Islamic extremists rampaging across their lands. Al-Hardan also knew he had nothing to offer them.
The various threads that came together to leave al-Hardan sitting powerless in his Baghdad home wind back through the years of broken promises and failed policies of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki toward the Sunni militiamen popularly known as Sahwa, or Awakening Councils. Al-Hardan and former Sahwa members say that under the Shiite prime minister, the militias were neglected, corruption flourished — and though millions of dollars were appropriated, militiamen were still left poorly armed and ill equipped.
The results speak for themselves. Over the past month, militants led by the extremist Islamic State group overpowered the military and the Sahwa, seizing control of most of the Sunni-dominated areas of Iraq. The jihadis have systematically killed dozens of former Sahwa leaders, forced others to flee and recruited the remaining foot soldiers through intimidation.
The checkered dealings with the Sahwa in recent years drained the Sunni community of any trust in the Baghdad government and particularly in al-Maliki, who is seeking a third consecutive four-year term. That presents an immense challenge to inducing the Sunni tribal fighters who turned on al-Qaida once before to risk everything again — even if they wanted to — and side with the government against the new insurgency.
"We have zero trust in al-Maliki, who will continue to deceive us and hurt us if he is to win a third term. If al-Maliki stays in power, then nobody will be willing to return to Sahwa," said Abu Sahir, a former Sahwa leader in Khan Bani Saad in Diyala province who became a fighter in the anti-government Mujahedeen Army militant group.
"But if al-Maliki is to be replaced by another person who would do something to stop the corruption and the humiliation, we might reconsider our position."
It's impossible to gauge how widespread that sentiment is. Other former Sahwa fighters who have joined the militants say they have severed ties with Baghdad for good. The internal dynamics of the insurgency — such as sometimes divergent interests between the Islamic State group and other Sunnis who have joined its fight — are also unpredictable and could affect the decisions of thousands of individual fighters on whether to stick with the movement.

As the world's eyes turn to Iraq, flabbergasted at the brutality and partial success of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, takeover of major Iraqi cities with the goal of building a so-called "Islamic state" under the banner of a Sunni awakening in Shiite-friendly nations like Iraq and Syria -- both bordering countries of Iran -- the media is presenting this war as a sectarian conflict: Sunni vs. Shiite. But we know that this conflict is a war being fomented by competing powers who are using these exact terror groups like al-Nusra and ISIS to destabilize nations and politically fragment them to further conquer and re-map the Middle East.
As the neoconservative and quasi-liberal media discuss what the best course of action is and what our obligations are to Iraq, not a single media outlet has asked the most important questions yet: Who is aiding and arming ISIS? And how, in our global war on terror, did a terror group like ISIS slip under the rug in a nation like Iraq, where the largest U.S. Embassy is located? And how [are] terror groups like ISIS an expression of imperialism?
Joining me today to break down the situation in Iraq and answer who is the driving factor in this "divide and conquer" in this multi-layered game of chess is Mahdi Nazemroaya, author of "The Globalization of NATO" and a forthcoming book, "The War on Libya and the Re-Colonization of Africa." He is also a research associate at the Center for Research on Globalization, a contributor at the Strategic Cultural Foundation in Moscow and a member of the Scientific Committee of Geopolitica in Italy.

"[Khawarij] People will have sajdah marks on their forehead, known as Qari's of Qur'an. The apparent adherence to rituals, which i call pseudo piety, confuses the normal people. They weren't able to distinguish between the right and wrong. This is equally applicable to the ISIS & Taliban."
"They were not able to understand the difference between the outward essence of the Qur'an, the words recited, and the essence of the inner teachings which can only be manifested and taught through the Imams. That is why these people were easliy tricked by muawiyah and amr ibn aas when they tied Qurans to their spears. This is where ali said this is just a book. It needs a spokesman, which is me."
"Ali tolerated the fanatic & ignorant group known as Khawarij as long as they opposed him in words and ideas."
"The Khawarij used to enter the Masjid and have their own seperate Salaat at the same time as Ali. He would tolerate it. An ordinary Imam [of masjid] wouldn't tolerate a seperate jamaat in his mosque.
"Ali had a merciful level of tolerance towards the Khawarij. Until they took up arms. When they became violent and threatened lives, that is where Amirul Mumineen drew the red line. And this is the attitude and example of our leaders at the moment."
ISIS and taliban are the manifestation of the modern day khawarij movement. may allah, if they have the capability to be guided, guide them, and if not, prevent their evil from the Muslim ummah.
"They have indeed created an atmosphere of gloom and darkness around the Muslim world. they have shattered the peace of this holy month, and they indeed are infected with rabidity. Wherever they go they create nothing but death and bloodshed.
"They are not going only against international law, but the Islam they are claiming to follow in the true sense."
"This is not a shia sunni issue. this is the salafis against the rest of the muslim world. the sunnis the shias and the sufis are all together."
"Sometimes we sit here and think this is a problem over there. We shouldn't be so assured of the situation here. We have to be vigilant, as invidivuals, as centres, and as a community. There are even reports of Canadians joining ISIS fighters, one of them confirmed on video."

As fighters linked to al-Qaeda take over parts of Anbar province, we ask how big a threat they pose to Iraq and Syria.
An offensive by fighters linked to al-Qaeda in western Iraq is challenging the authority of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, and testing local loyalties.
There may be some challenges in reconciliation between the Sunnis in Anbar and the central government, but that's a low-level political matter that needs to be worked out in the long run. The near-term existential threat to Iraq, and in particular to the Sunnis in Anbar, is the presence of al-Qaeda .... The key element now is to defeat al-Qaeda.
Mark Kimmitt, a retired brigadier general in the US army
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, known as ISIL, has taken over parts of Fallujah and Ramadi, which are both Sunni strongholds in Anbar province.
Fighters are reported to have stormed police stations, seized weapons, freed prisoners, and set buildings on fire.
The group is said to be supported by local Sunni tribal fighters and has been bolstered by cross-border ties with its affiliate in Syria.
Iraqi government forces have been accused of failing to get a grip on security since US troops pulled out of the country two years ago, with 2013 cited as the deadliest year in Iraq since 2008.
Some Sunni's also claim they have been marginalised, and accuse Maliki's Shia-led government of discrimination.
Even so, while some tribal militias are supporting ISIL, others are backing the security forces, making for a complex three-way fight.
It harks back to the days of the so-called Sahwa militia or Awakening Councils when Sunni tribesmen turned their guns on al-Qaeda, opting to support US troops instead.
Speaking in a televised address, Maliki tried to present a united front.

The leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution has warned against enemy plots to undermine a wave of Islamic Awakening, by provoking sectarian conflict among Muslims. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says enemies have clung to the hope that a Shia-Sunni war could subvert Islamic Awakening, for which reason they've been fueling civil conflicts in the region. He couldn't bear to answer. Al-Hardan, a leader in the Sunni tribal militias that allied with the U.S. to help turn the tide against al-Qaida in Iraq, knew what the Sunni fighters on the other end of the line wanted: weapons to fight the Islamic extremists rampaging across their lands. Al-Hardan also knew he had nothing to offer them. The various threads that came together to leave al-Hardan sitting powerless in his Baghdad home wind back through the years of broken promises and failed policies of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki toward the Sunni militiamen popularly known as Sahwa, or Awakening Councils. Al-Hardan and former Sahwa members say that under the Shiite prime minister, the militias were neglected, corruption flourished — and though millions of dollars were appropriated, militiamen were still left poorly armed and ill equipped. The results speak for themselves. Over the past month, militants led by the extremist Islamic State group overpowered the military and the Sahwa, seizing control of most of the Sunni-dominated areas of Iraq. The jihadis have systematically killed dozens of former Sahwa leaders, forced others to flee and recruited the remaining foot soldiers through intimidation. The checkered dealings with the Sahwa in recent years drained the Sunni community of any trust in the Baghdad government and particularly in al-Maliki, who is seeking a third consecutive four-year term. That presents an immense challenge to inducing the Sunni tribal fighters who turned on al-Qaida once before to risk everything again — even if they wanted to — and side with the government against the new insurgency. "We have zero trust in al-Maliki, who will continue to deceive us and hurt us if he is to win a third term. If al-Maliki stays in power, then nobody will be willing to return to Sahwa," said Abu Sahir, a former Sahwa leader in Khan Bani Saad in Diyala province who became a fighter in the anti-government Mujahedeen Army militant group. "But if al-Maliki is to be replaced by another person who would do something to stop the corruption and the humiliation, we might reconsider our position." It's impossible to gauge how widespread that sentiment is. Other former Sahwa fighters who have joined the militants say they have severed ties with Baghdad for good. The internal dynamics of the insurgency — such as sometimes divergent interests between the Islamic State group and other Sunnis who have joined its fight — are also unpredictable and could affect the decisions of thousands of individual fighters on whether to stick with the movement. As the neoconservative and quasi-liberal media discuss what the best course of action is and what our obligations are to Iraq, not a single media outlet has asked the most important questions yet: Who is aiding and arming ISIS? And how, in our global war on terror, did a terror group like ISIS slip under the rug in a nation like Iraq, where the largest U.S. Embassy is located? And how [are] terror groups like ISIS an expression of imperialism? When they became violent and threatened lives, that is where Amirul Mumineen drew the red line. And this is the attitude and example of our leaders at the moment." ISIS and taliban are the manifestation of the modern day khawarij movement. may allah, if they have the capability to be guided, guide them, and if not, prevent their evil from the Muslim ummah. "They have indeed created an atmosphere of gloom and darkness around the Muslim world. they have shattered the peace of this holy month, and they indeed are infected with rabidity. Wherever they go they create nothing but death and bloodshed. "They are not going only against international law, but the Islam they are claiming to follow in the true sense." "This is not a shia sunni issue. this is the salafis against the rest of the muslim world. the sunnis the shias and the sufis are all together." "Sometimes we sit here and think this is a problem over there. We shouldn't be so assured of the situation here. We have to be vigilant, as invidivuals, as centres, and as a community. Iraqi Army Still Fighting Against Militants Linked Al-Qaeda in Fallujah and Anbar.Who win the control of Iraq ? Battles are Spreading Other Districts ... As fighters linked to al-Qaeda take over parts of Anbar province, we ask how big a threat they pose to Iraq and Syria. An offensive by fighters linked to al-Qaeda in western Iraq is challenging the authority of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, and testing local loyalties. There may be some challenges in reconciliation between the Sunnis in Anbar and the central government, but that's a low-level political matter that needs to be worked out in the long run. The near-term existential threat to Iraq, and in particular to the Sunnis in Anbar, is the presence of al-Qaeda .... The key element now is to defeat al-Qaeda. Mark Kimmitt, a retired brigadier general in the US army The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, known as ISIL, has taken over parts of Fallujah and Ramadi, which are both Sunni strongholds in Anbar province. Fighters are reported to have stormed police stations, seized weapons, freed prisoners, and set buildings on fire. The group is said to be supported by local Sunni tribal fighters and has been bolstered by cross-border ties with its affiliate in Syria. Iraqi government forces have been accused of failing to get a grip on security since US troops pulled out of the country two years ago, with 2013 cited as the deadliest year in Iraq since 2008. Some Sunni's also claim they have been marginalised, and accuse Maliki's Shia-led government of discrimination. Even so, while some tribal militias are supporting ISIL, others are backing the security forces, making for a complex three-way fight. It harks back to the days of the so-called Sahwa militia or Awakening Councils when Sunni tribesmen turned their guns on al-Qaeda, opting to support US troops instead. A deadly amoeba that can destroy brain tissue has been found in the water supply of several towns in southeast Louisiana. The National Council for the Awakening of Iraq (Arabic: المجلس الوطني لإنقاذ العراق Al-Majlis al-Waṭaniy li-Inqādh al-`Irāq), also known as the Sunni Awakening movement (Arabic: حركة الإنقاذ السني Ḥarakat al-Inqādh al-Sunniy) Anbar Awakening (Arabic: إنقاذ الأنبار Inqādh al-Anbār) or the Sons of Iraq (Arabic: أبناء العراق Abnā' al-`Irāq) program, are coalitions between tribal Sheikhs in a particular province in Iraq that unite to maintain security in their communities.
The movement started among Sunni tribes in Anbar Province in 2005 to become an ad-hoc armed force across the country in less than a year.
The awakening fighters in Iraq have been credited by some analysts with reducing levels of violence in the areas in which they operate; however, the rapid growth of the groups, whose salaries were initially paid for completely by the US military, has also led to concerns about some members' insurgent pasts fighting against coalition forces and about infiltration by al-Qaeda.Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has warned that the US-armed 'concerned local citizens' are an armed Sunni opposition in the making, and has argued that such groups should be under the command of the Iraqi Army or police.

Charles Joseph "Joe" Scarborough (
/ˈskɑrbɔroʊ/; born April 9, 1963) is an American cable news and talk radio host, lawyer, author, and former politician. He is currently the host of Morning Joe on MSNBC, and previously hosted Scarborough Country on the same channel. Scarborough served in the United States House of Representatives from 1995 to 2001 as a Republican from the 1st district of Florida. He has been named to the TIME 100 as one of the most influential people in the world.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, he was born to George F. Scarborough, a businessman, with two other siblings. When his father died in May 2011, his life story appeared in the Congressional Record and in Politico's Playbook. Scarborough even wrote an eulogy op-ed online.
Joe Scarborough graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School in Pensacola, Florida (although he is not a Catholic). He received a B.A. from the University of Alabama in 1985 and a J.D. from the University of Florida College of Law in 1990. During this time he wrote and produced CDs with his band, Dixon Mills, and taught high school. He was admitted to the The Florida Bar in 1991, and practiced law in Pensacola.
