The Khadr family (أسرة خضر) is a Canadian family noted for their ties to Osama bin Laden and alleged connections to al Qaeda. The family maintains that they have not broken any Canadian laws, and they have never been charged with any crimes by Canadian authorities.

In 1986, the family was living in an apartment in Peshawar on an $800 monthly allowance.

The family returned to Canada and rented an apartment near Bloor/Dundas in 1992 following an incident in Afghanistan that left Ahmed disabled, and later moved into the Bloor/Lansdowne area.^{[citation needed]}

After leaving Canada a year and a half later, the family moved into a three-room house in September 1997. During this time, the family visited Nazim Jihad, the family home of Osama bin Laden in Jalalabad which the children nicknamed "Star Wars", and stayed at the compound the following year during the father's absence. The family say they stayed two days, while the FBI says it was a month. They subsequently moved to the Karte Parwan neighbourhood of Kabul and lived there from 1999-2001. The Khadrs were registered as operators of a Canadian charity, and closed their office in the upscale Wazir Akbar Khan neighbourhood to bring work in their own home.

Omar Ahmed Khadr (Arabic: عمر أحمد خضر‎; born September 19, 1986) is a Canadian citizen convicted for war crimes under the United States Military Commissions Act of 2009, including murder in violation of the law of war and providing material support for terrorism. Khadr was tried by a Guantanamo military commission tribunal, a venue reserved for non-American enemy combatants captured in the War on Terror. In October 2010 he pleaded guilty to the five charges against him as part of a plea agreement with military commission prosecutors.

Khadr was captured on July 27, 2002 by American forces at the age of 15 following a four-hour firefight in the village of Ayub Kheyl, Afghanistan. As of May 2006, he was still detained in the Guantanamo Bay detention camp. Khadr signed a pre-trial agreement, pleading guilty to the charges, and the details of the charges and accepting an 8 year sentence, not including time served, with the possibility of a transfer to Canada after at least one year to serve the remainder of the sentence there, based on a US/Canada agreement.

Originally from Dundee, Scotland, Dennis Edney is a Canadian defence attorney based in Edmonton, Alberta noted for his involvement in high-profile cases, including Brian Mills, R. v. Trang, as defence attorney for Abdullah and Omar Khadr, who were captured in the War on Terror,Fahim Ahmad, and represents the entire Khadr family.

Appeared at all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada and the United States Supreme Court. Appointed as Foreign Attorney Consultant by the U.S. Pentagon to participate in the legal defense of Mr. Omar Khadr, at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Received the 2008 National Pro Bono Award. Recipient of the 2009 Human Rights Medal awarded by the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia for work that “has helped to promote and further human rights”. Named by Alberta Venture magazine as one of 50 Alberta's most influential people for 2008. In 2011, appointed as a Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta. In 2011, he was fired by Omar Khadr.

Lectured extensively with emphasis on the Rule of Law, to organizations, universities and conferences throughout North America. Keynote speaker on behalf of Amnesty International to speak at Trinity College, Dublin, on the Rule of Law (2005); and in London, England, at the international conference on the “Global Struggle against Torture” (2005).

"The Man" is a slang phrase that may refer to the government or to some other authority in a position of power. In addition to this derogatory connotation, it may also serve as a term of respect and praise.

The phrase "the Man is keeping me down" is commonly used to describe oppression. The phrase "stick it to the Man" encourages resistance to authority, and essentially means "fight back" or "resist", either openly or via sabotage.

The earliest recorded use^{[citation needed]} of the term "the Man" in the American sense dates back to a letter written by a young Alexander Hamilton in September 1772, when he was 15. In a letter to his father James Hamilton, published in the Royal Dutch-American Gazette, he described the response of the Dutch governor of St. Croix to a hurricane that raked that island on August 31, 1772. "Our General has issued several very salutary and humane regulations and both in his publick and private measures, has shewn himself the Man." ^{[dubious – discuss]} In the Southern U.S. states, the phrase came to be applied to any man or any group in a position of authority, or to authority in the abstract. From about the 1950s the phrase was also an underworld code word for police, the warden of a prison or other law enforcement or penal authorities.

Ezra Isaac Levant (born 1972) is a Canadian media personality, conservative political activist and author. He is the founder and former publisher of the Western Standard, is a broadcaster and columnist for Sun Media and has written several books on politics and public policy.

Born in Calgary, Levant holds a commerce degree from the University of Calgary and a law degree from the University of Alberta. His great-grandfather emigrated to Canada in 1903 from Russia to establish a homestead near Drumheller, Alberta. Levant grew up in a suburb of Calgary. He attended a Jewish day school in his childhood before transferring to a public junior high school.

Levant campaigned for the Reform Party of Canada as a teenager and joined it as a university student. In 1992, while at the University of Calgary, his two-person team won the "best debating" category in the Intercollegiate Business Competition held at Queen's University. In 1994, he was featured in a Globe and Mail article on young conservatives after accusing the University of Alberta of racism for instituting an affirmative action program of hiring women and aboriginal professors. His actions outraged aboriginal law students, feminists, and a number of professors, and he was called to a meeting with the assistant dean who advised him of the university's non-academic code of conduct and defamation laws. As head of the university's speakers committee, Levant organized a debate between Doug Christie, a lawyer known for his advocacy in defence of Holocaust deniers and accused Nazi war criminals, and Thomas Kuttner, a Jewish lawyer from the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission.
