Shuji Nakamura (中村 修二, Nakamura Shūji?, born May 22, 1954 in Ikata, Ehime, Japan) is a professor at the Materials Department of the College of Engineering, University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB)., and is regarded as the inventor of the white LED, a major breakthrough in lighting technology.
Nakamura graduated from the University of Tokushima in 1977 with a degree in electronic engineering, and obtained a master's degree in the same subject two years later, after which he joined the Nichia Corporation, also based in Tokushima. It was while working for Nichia that Nakamura invented the first high brightness GaN LED whose brilliant blue light, when partially converted to yellow by a phosphor coating, is the key to white LED lighting, which went into production in 1993.
Previously, J.I. Pankove and co-workers at RCA put in considerable effort, but did not manage to make a marketable GaN LED in the 1960s. The principal problem was the difficulty of making strongly p-type GaN. Nakamura was somewhat luckier than other workers in that another Japanese group led by Professor Isamu Akasaki published their method to make strongly p-type GaN by electron-beam irradiation of magnesium-doped GaN. However, this method was not suitable for mass production and its physics was not well understood. Nakamura managed to develop a thermal annealing method which was much more suitable for mass production. In addition, he and his co-workers worked out the physics and pointed out the culprit was hydrogen, which passivated acceptors in GaN.
Shinsuke Nakamura (中邑 真輔, Nakamura Shinsuke?, born February 24, 1980) is a Japanese professional wrestler and mixed martial artist currently working for New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he is a former three-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion.
Kazuchika Okada (岡田かずちか, Okada Kazuchika?) (born November 8, 1987) is a Japanese professional wrestler, currently signed to New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he is the reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion. From February 2010 until October 2011, he was on a developmental tour, working for American promotion Total Nonstop Action Wrestling under the ring names Okada and Okato.
Trained by Último Dragón at his Toryumon professional wrestling school, Kazuchika Okada made his debut on August 29, 2004, and would spend the next couple of years wrestling primarily in Toryumon Mexico. On December 11, 2004, Okada participated in 2004 Young Dragons Cup. After defeating Hajime Ohara in the first round, he was eliminated from the tournament in the semifinals by Rocky Romero. In the following year's tournament, Okada defeated Toshiya Matsuzaki and Fujita Hayato en route to the finals, where he defeated Hajime Ohara to win the 2005 Young Dragons Cup. In March 2006, Okada also participated in the Yamaha Cup, teaming with Hiromi Horiguchi, but the team was eliminated in the first round by Chuck Palumbo and Johnny Stamboli.
Shuji Kondo (近藤修司, Kondō Shūji?) is a Japanese professional wrestler who currently works for All Japan Pro Wrestling. Prior to becoming a pro wrestler, he played rugby.
Kondo was part of the T2P class in Toryumon. At first he was a face in the Toryumon Seikegun.
He would turn heel and join the Italian Connection, changing his name to Condotti Shuji, after the shopping district. One of his stablemates in the ItaCon was "brother" YASSHI, who has remained a firm ally of his ever since.
In 2003, the ItaCon was divided over the face/heel issue, with Shuji leading the heel side. He would lead the turn, briefly rename to Dotti Shuji, and soon after revert to his real name. He and YASSHI formed a group called Hagure Gundam (Stray Army in English) with fellow ItaCon member Shogo Takagi, and Torou Owashi. When Hagure Gundam was joined by Masaaki Mochizuki, it renamed to Aagan Iisou. Mochi would later be kicked out of the stable after he and Kondo feuded over who was leader, and Takuya Sugawara was added to the group.
Yuichi Nakamura (中村 優一, Nakamura Yūichi?, born October 8, 1987) is a Japanese actor, most notably known for the roles of Kyōsuke Kiriya in the 2005 tokusatsu series Kamen Rider Hibiki, Otoya Hanazono in the 2006 midnight drama Princess Princess D, and Yuto Sakurai/Kamen Rider Zeronos in the 2007 tokusatsu series Kamen Rider Den-O.
Nakamura is affiliated with the acting group D-BOYS, produced by Watanabe Entertainment.
Nakamura started his career in entertainment in 2003, joining the talent agency Johnny & Associates under the Johnny's Jr. division. However, through his time in Johnny's Jr. Nakamura realized he had more interest in pursuing a career in acting than in music, despite the passion for dance that motivated him to join the agency. When Watanabe Entertainment's action production group D-BOYS announced its first public audition searching for new talents in 2004, Nakamura left Johnny & Associates to try for the new group that conformed more to the career he sought.
On July 27, 2004 Nakamura performed in the D-BOYS Open Audition, and came in as the Grand Prize winner. He joined the group shortly after, along with second placer Shunji Igarashi and third placer Katsuki Nakamura. Nakamura is currently one of the constantly expanding group's longest standing members.
