The colour palette I chose for this wedding, was white, with neutral colours. With regards to the wedding stationery, I designed a whole different set of wedding stationery for this wedding – keeping a casual, light-hearted theme, instead of the luxurious opulent theme for the Gold Coast wedding.
Decor wise, white lanterns were hung using fishing wire at the entrance and terrace area, to add to the feel of the place. The reception area was easy to work with, as it was gorgeous in itself. It had floor to ceiling windows overlooking the beach, and white sails adorning the ceiling. For the table setting, we did all the floral arrangements by ourselves! I ordered all my flowers (white roses and lisanthius) from the Queen Victoria market, and the day before the wedding, my parents and I were trimming flowers, arranging them in little glass cups and cheap vases we bought from Ikea. I had my heart set on the idea of paper doilies as placecards, and menus on the reverse – although some may argue, that it was more effort than it was worth. I had to hand cut (and consequently paste) each circle with the guest’s name printed, for all hundred and fifty guests, and then do the same for the menu on the flip side! The table names and seating plan were displayed using antique white photo frames, with “inspirational words” as table names. The table setting was then complete with flower petals and candle tealights.
For our ceremony backdrop, I designed and constructed an entire backdrop using a rented scaffolding from a staging company. I purchased cheap cloth from a fabric store for the backdrop and curtains, a fireplace from a garage sale, and sourced the party poms to line the top, from etsy. The ceremony backdrop was then doubled up as a photobooth backdrop, for a photobooth we had going on during canapes. I loved the idea of a fun photobooth, and wanted the guests to be able to take the photos home with them as a momento for the wedding. Running with that idea, I bought a portable Canon selphy photo printer, some cheap glass photo frames from Ikea, and had my family form an efficient production team to help take the photos with a SLR camera, and print the photos at the “printing booth” as they were taken! In addition, we purchased some photo props from Spotlight, which I put together on our “prop table” to add to the photobooth fun.
We wanted to engage our guests with a Guestbook activity, hence setup a “Jamie and Ann Dental Clinic” (Jamie being a dentist), and a “Ann and Jamie Pharmacy” (with myself, a pharmacist!). The idea was for the guests to write a message on Jamie’s dental prescription for a “Sweet Tooth”, then fill out the prescription at my pharmacy drop-off, where they would collect their pills – “Sweet tooth mints”. I made the signboards out of canvas and wooden letters from Spotlight; designed and printed the labels for the pills; and kept the same “white koume lace paper” theme from the Wedding Invitations, for the Guestbook prescription pads and “direction cards”. We also had a “Dentist” and “Pharmacist” on duty on the wedding day to help guests with the activity.
Sails On The Bay, is a restaurant renowned for their exquisite food – so naturally everyone loved the food! Instead of having a sit down three course meal, I worked with the pastry chef to design a white themed dessert buffet, which worked out quite nicely as the guests could mingle around after the main sit down meal. Other fun, and memorable things we incorporated on the day, was our “walk-in”, which we did, glee style to the song “marry you”. Given that we had already been through the traditional wedding ceremony in the Gold Coast, I thought a “dance-in” would be a refreshing change. We had the most sporting bridal party and family dance in with us, and had a ball. Instead of communion, we planted a chilli seed as our unity symbol – though the plant has yet to flower to date! I could go on forever about the details, but that would bore you to death – so is the photo slideshow!

The hype for the wedding started the night before, when the girls and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove Manor Suite, where we got ready on the wedding day itself. It is a lavish 231-sq.metre suite, complete with three balconies overlooking gardens, fountain terraces and a marina, that completely took our breath away. The girls made full use of the skylit master bath with sauna and jetted spa tub, while I curled up on the couch next to the fireplace lounge and grand piano reciting my wedding vows over and over again! Admittedly, the suite was a tad extravagant for just us girls, but it turned out to be a great indoor photo studio for us on the wedding day, as it was raining cats and dogs outside!
The morning of the wedding saw a flurry of activity and excitement in the Manor Suite, with us girls scurrying around getting ready. The Royal Wedding Buggy arrived at noon to pick the girls up, and together with sixty three of our closest family, we exchanged our vows at the Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove chapel. Making my way down the aisle, in the grandeur and resplendence of the white glass chapel, was literally my bride’s dream come true. The aisle was adorned with lush white floral arrangements with cream rose petals strewn across the white tiled aisle. At the ceremony, we gave out personalised hand fans, and monogrammed water bottles with custom design labels. I loved how the entire family was involved in the ceremony – We had Jamie’s cousin, our pastor, officiate the ceremony; whilst the usher team, setup and worship band compromised of other members of the family. The entire bridal party was made up of our cousins and siblings too.
After the ceremony, we moved on to Palazzo Versace, Vanitas, for our reception. Versace was our venue of choice, for it’s opulent decor and exquisite food (the renowned Versace seafood buffet!). In line with our choice of venues, the theme was luxurious, with a white, cream and gold colour palette. All the wedding stationery was handmade and custom designed by myself – I chose a cream Tiffany flocked paper theme for the invitations, order of service, guestbook and chocolate bombonieere/ placards ; while the table numbers and placecards/ thankyou cards, had a champagne / gold ribbon with cream card stock. The cake stand was made out of a custom cut made to measure styrofoam box, wrapped with the closest “gold and cream” wrapping paper I could find at Spotlight. The bridal bouquets and floristry at the reception, was the handywork of the most talented and delightful florist, Sandee Newton, from Always Fabulous Flowers.
All in all, the wedding was cosy perfect, and everything I wished for. The day was fun-filled, and it was lovely to celebrate the momentous occasion with family. The reception saw a series of moving and funny speeches and the Versace seafood buffet was absolutely divine. There was lots of laughter, and buckets of tears, as we danced the night away. Definitely a day to cherish and remember.

In a London of fast-blinking lights and speeding commuters, cars and trains leave luminous comet-like trails marking their passage through the night. Individuals reflect on freedom in the urban metropolis or seek escape from the repetitive habits and conditions it enforces. Suki Chan’s moving image piece Sleep Walk, Sleep Talk is an impressionistic and lyrical study of London’s diverse population.
The diptych video installation explores public and private space in the urban environment, weaving together a series of video portraits of city commuters, security guards, architects, urban planners, economists and news journalists who reflect on real and abstract constructs of the city. Chan captures the nuances at play in a city: the solid mass of its architecture, fleeting movements of its urban inhabitants and the transportation system that revolves around them. Sensual and dreamlike, SWST is a heightened and compelling investigation of urban experience.
