The Morning News may refer to:
The Savannah Morning News is a daily newspaper in Savannah, Georgia. It is published by Morris Communications, Inc. The motto of the paper is "Light of the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry". The paper serves Savannah, its metropolitan area, and parts of South Carolina.
William Tappan Thompson, author of the "Major Jones" series of humorous stories, along with John McKinney Cooper as publisher and owner, founded the paper on January 15, 1850 as the Daily Morning News. At the end of the Civil War in 1865, John Cooper was pardoned by President Andrew Johnson allowing him to retain ownership of the paper. Its named was changed to the Daily News and Herald, though Thompson remained as editor. Thompson left the paper in 1867 to travel in Europe. In 1868, Thompson returned and the paper was renamed again to The Savannah Daily Morning News for one edition, then changed to the current name the following day. In 1870, Joel Chandler Harris, who later went on to write the Uncle Remus tales, became an assistant editor. As assistant editor, Harris launched a successful campaign to outlaw dueling, which was still popular in Savannah in the mid-19th century. Whereas previous editors had written glossed-over stories of brave men dueling over their honor, Harris wrote about grown men urinating in their pants from fear, missing their shots wildly because of fear and sometimes begging for mercy.
A savanna or savannah is a grassland ecosystem characterised by the trees being sufficiently widely spaced so that the canopy does not close. The open canopy allows sufficient light to reach the ground to support an unbroken herbaceous layer consisting primarily of grasses.
Savannas maintain an open canopy despite a high tree density. It is often believed that savannas feature widely spaced, scattered trees. However, in many savannas, tree densities are higher and trees are more regularly spaced than in forests. The South American savanna types cerrado sensu stricto and cerrado dense typically have densities of trees similar to or higher than that found in South American tropical forests, with savanna ranging 800–3300 trees/ha and adjacent forests with 800–2000 trees/ha. Similarly Guinean savanna has 129 trees/ha, compared to 103 for riparian forest, while Eastern Australian sclerophyll forests have average tree densities of approximately 100 per hectare, comparable to savannas in the same region.
Morning is the period of time between midnight and noon or, more commonly, the interval between sunrise and noon. Morning precedes afternoon, evening, and night in the sequence of a day. Originally, the term referred to sunrise.
The name (which comes from the Middle English word morwening) was formed from the analogy of evening using the word "morn" (in Middle English morwen), and originally meant the coming of the sunrise as evening meant the beginning of the close of the day. The Middle English morwen dropped over time and became morwe, then eventually morrow, which properly means "morning", but was soon used to refer to the following day (i.e., "tomorrow"), as in other Germanic languages—English is unique in restricting the word to the newer usage. The Spanish word "mañana" has two meanings in English: "morning," and "tomorrow," along with the word "morgen" in Dutch and German which also means both "morning," and "tomorrow." Max Weber, (General Economic History, pp23) states that the English word "morning" and the German word "Morgen" both signify the size of land strip "which an ox could plow in a day without giving out". "Tagwerk" in German, and "a day's work" in English mean the same. A Good morning in this sense might mean a good day's plow.

*** Click LARGE PLAYER for proper size *** *** Two copies of the same webcam video. First the original, then with enhanced brightness. *** This is how the Savannah Morning News delivery driver delivers my neighbor's paper. This is the third time I have seen this done in as many delivery days. The driver jumps the curb in front of the house next door, drives down the sidewalk/lawn, squeaks past my car, heads into my neighbor's front yard, pauses briefly to throw the paper, and nearly collides with my neighbor's van before resuming safe, legal travel. Unbelievable! Update: After several conversations w/ Savannah Morning News, they are yet to thank me for bringing this to their attention, apologize for the delivery driver's actions, or provide any assurance that it won't happe...

SOMETHING MUST BE DONE! Be forewarned by watching the documentary video presented to the Savannah City Council. It shows that city officials are well-aware of major "ongoing" problems facing many of our city trees. Shante Greene, a Savannah mom, had her leg amputated after a failed branch crushed her and the truck she was sitting in. Now her medical bills are astronomical. DON'T let this happen to you -- Keep a wary eye out for what you are parking beneath and driving under. Watch this video so you know how to identify the problem -- then CALL 311 to report dangerous trees to the city. WE ALL NEED TO HELP! This is a BIG problem that will CONTINUE and is ALREADY GETTING WORSE! 8/2 NEWS UPDATE: This tree fell with such force; it took out cars, a home and power lines: http://ww...
