Charles James "Charlie" Haughey (16 September 1925 – 13 June 2006) was Taoiseach of Ireland, serving three terms in office (from December 1979 to June 1981, March 1982 to December 1982, and March 1987 to February 1992). He was also the fourth leader of Fianna Fáil (from 1979 until 1992). Haughey was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a Teachta Dála (TD) in 1957 and was re-elected in every election until 1992, he represented the Dublin North-East constituency from 1957 until 1973. The constituency lines were redrawn under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1974 in an attempt to secure re-election for the sitting Fine Gael-Labour Party government in the 1977 election and Haughey represented Dublin-Artane in 1977, this constituency was abolished in 1981 and most of Haughey's electoral area was moved into the reformed Dublin North-Central constituency which he served from 1981 until his retirement in 1992. Haughey also served as Minister for Health and Social Welfare (1977–1979), Minister for Finance (1966–1970), Minister for Agriculture (1964–1966) and Minister for Justice (1961–1964). He also served as a Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Justice during the early years of his parliamentary career.
Dermot John Morgan (31 March 1952 – 28 February 1998) was an Irish comedian, actor and previously a schoolteacher, who achieved international renown for his role as Father Ted Crilly in the Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted.
Born in Dublin and educated at Oatlands College, Stillorgan, and University College, Dublin (U.C.D.), Morgan first came to prominence as part of the team of the highly successful RTÉ television show The Live Mike, presented by Mike Murphy. Between 1979 and 1984 Morgan, previously a full-time teacher at St. Michael's College, Ailesbury Road, played a range of comic characters, who would appear between segments, including Father Trendy, an unctuous trying-to-be-cool Catholic priest given to drawing ludicrous parallels with non-religious life in two-minute 'chats' to camera. He also played (among other characters) an intolerant GAA bigot, who would wave his hurley around aggressively while verbally attacking his pet hates. He lampooned the Wolfe Tones' song "A Nation Once Again" by singing of a dog who saves his Irish Republican Army (I.R.A.) master by eating a grenade during a search by the Black and Tans. When the dog farts and the grenade detonates, the British commented that, "It must have been something he ate." The song climaxed with the words, "I hope that I shall live to see Fido an Alsatian once again."
Richard "Dick" Spring (born 29 August 1950) is an Irish businessman and former politician. He was first elected as a Labour Party Teachta Dála (TD) in 1981 and retained his seat until 2002. He became leader of the Labour Party in 1982, and held this position until 1997. He served as Minister for the Environment (1982–1983), Minister for Energy (1983–1987) and Minister for Foreign Affairs (1993–November 1994, December 1994–1997). He also served as Tánaiste during those three governments.
Spring was born in Tralee, County Kerry in 1950 and was educated by the Cistercian monks at Cistercian College in Roscrea, County Tipperary, and at Trinity College, Dublin, and qualified as a barrister at King's Inns.
Spring played Gaelic football and hurling for Kerry in the seventies. He played his club football with the Kerins O'Rahilly's club in Tralee and hurling with Crotta O'Neill's. His father Dan won 2 All-Ireland Senior Football Championships in 1939 and 1940.
He then won rugby union caps for Munster, and lined out for London Irish in England. He also was capped for Ireland seven times, debuting against Scotland on January 21, 1978 at Landsdowne Road, and receiving his last international cap on February 21, 1981 against Wales at Cardiff Arms Park.
Terry Keane (1939 – 1 June 2008) was an Irish columnist and fashion journalist.
Born as Ann Teresa O'Donnell in Guildford, Surrey, UK in 1939, Keane studied medicine at Trinity College, Dublin but dropped out without obtaining a degree. She spent the majority of her career working for the Irish newspaper, the Sunday Independent. She later left the paper on bad terms after selling the story of her 27-year affair with former Taoiseach, Charles Haughey to the British newspaper, The Sunday Times, a rival to the affiliated London Independent newspapers, though she admitted her affair on The Late Late Show in 1999.
Keane died on 1 June 2008 after a long illness. She is survived by her children Jane, Madeleine and Justine. Her son Tim died in 2004.
Brendan Grace (born 1st of April 1951) is an Irish comedian and singer. He is known for his comedy schoolboy character "Bottler", the role of Murphy in the 1995 movie Moondance, and his 1996 appearance in the Irish TV sitcom Father Ted as Father Fintan Stack.
Born in the heart of Dublin in 1951, Brendan was raised in the working class Liberties neighbourhood. At school, Brendan gained the nickname "The Black Kennedy". His father Seamus worked as a bartender and at other odd jobs to keep the family going. However, this proved to be not enough and Brendan was forced to leave school at 15 to start earning for his family.
At the age of 18 Brendan formed a band known as The Gingermen and toured Ireland in what has come to be known as the showband era of the 60s. During a gig one night the band found themselves two members short and in an attempt to calm an anxious crowd Brendan was thrust upon the stage to humour them. His wit and razor sharp observations of daily life in Ireland immediately bought the crowd and since then he has been selling out venues. In November 2009, he released his bestselling autobiography, Amuzing Grace, which received critical acclaim.
Tortilla chips
Are on my lips
And no one's pressed
Against my hips
Bad beat poet late at night
The city gets bright I can't see
The neon lights don't work on me
I am no watcher in the fight
Charlie says nobody's got the strange and hidden power and
No one is really beautiful
They're all just mediocre men of the hour
If sex was love I'd be so set
I'd know the most that we could get
I never had the tits and ass
To go and take a master class
Charlie says nobody's got the strange and hidden power and
No one is really beautiful
They're all just mediocre men of the hour
Mediocre models of the hour
Mediocre men
Mediocre men
You take me places and you make cool faces when our sex erases the lonely past and
You found me when I was first and ten against eleven men who could kick my ass
But anyway, it's probably gonna pass
I do not know but it's been said
The hero hogan was found dead
With something wrapped around his head
The price he paid was more than bread
Charlie's says nobody's got the strange and hidden power and
No one is really beautiful
No one is really beautiful
No one is really beautiful
They're all just mediocre men of the hour
They're all just mediocre jokers of the hour
If what you're looking for is an action star
I'm a superstar stud with a formula car
And cleft in my chin and a facial scar, movin' hard
If a squeaky wheel gets the grease
I'm a road hog harley on my hands and my knees
I'm begging for your love please
No one is really beautiful
No one is really beautiful
No one is really beautiful
No one is really beautiful
No one is really beautiful
They're all just mediocre men of the hour
Mediocre men of the hour
My name is, my name is
My name is, Charles II!
I love the people
And the people love me
So much that they restored
The English monarchy!
I'm part Scottish, French, Italian
A little bit Dane
But one hundred percent party animal
Champagne?
Spaniels I adored
Named after me too
Like me, they were fun
With a nutty hair do!
Is today my birthday?
I can't recall
Let's have a party anyway
Because I love a masked ball!
All hail, the king!
Of bling! Let's sing!
Bells ring! Ding ding!
I'm the king who brought back partying!
King Charles, my daddy
Lost his throne
And kings were banned
They chopped off his head
Then Olly Cromwell ruled the land
Old Olly wasn't jolly
He was glum, and he was proud
Would be miserable as sin
Only sinning's not allowed!
When Olly died, the people said
'Charlie, me hearty!
Get rid of his dull laws
Come back, we'd rather party!'
This action's what they called
The monarchy restoration
Which naturally was followed
By a huge celebration!
The King of Eng! (Land say!)
No sin! Too sing! (Okay!)
Or anything!
All say, I'm the king who brought back partying!
Great London Fire was a whopper!
In my reign, London city came a-cropper!
So this king did what was right and proper
Fought the fire, proved I'm more than a bopper
I'm a fire stopper!
Married Catherine Braganza
She was a love so true
There would never be another
Well... maybe one or two!
Lucy Walter, Nell Gwynne
Moll Davies, Barbara Villiers
You think that's bad
But her name's not as silly as...
Hortense Mancini!
As king, I must admit
I broke the wedding rules
But who cares when I brought back
The crown jewels?
I reinstated Christmas
Make up, sports and even plays
I was the merry monarch
They were good old days!
When said and done!
King Charles did run!
England for fun!
I was the king loved by everyone
My song is done!
