Vandalism is the behaviour attributed originally to the Vandals, by the Romans, in respect of culture: ruthless destruction or spoiling of anything beautiful or venerable. The term also includes criminal damage such as graffiti and defacement directed towards any property without permission of the owner.
The Vandals, an ancient Germanic people, are associated with senseless destruction as a result of their sack of Rome under King Genseric in 455. During the Enlightenment, Rome was idealized, while the Goths and Vandals were blamed for its destruction. The Vandals may not have been any more destructive than other invaders of ancient times, but they did inspire British poet John Dryden to write, Till Goths, and Vandals, a rude Northern race, Did all the matchless Monuments deface (1694). The term Vandalisme was coined in 1794 by Henri Grégoire, bishop of Blois, to describe the destruction of artwork following the French Revolution. The term was quickly adopted across Europe. This new use of the term was important in colouring the perception of the Vandals from later Late Antiquity, popularising the pre-existing idea that they were a barbaric group with a taste for destruction.

Uh we're coming alive
My heart is an ocean
With love in your eyes
Ready to tell me up tonight
We're coming alive
And invade it to your high
And this is our time
We're coming alive
Okay
I've got a loaded gun
I got a hunger for some love and now you're gonna feed me
Okay
We're gonna shoot the sun
We're gonna beat the shadows and the people watch me rhyme
Uh we're coming alive
My heart is an ocean
With love in your eyes
Ready to tell me up tonight
We're coming alive
And invade it to your high
And this is our time
We're coming alive
Pick it up take it out bouncing bouncing
Take it up, I can't stop bouncing bouncing
Give it up, tear it outbouncing bouncing
Kick it up, I can't stop bounce bounce bounce
We're coming moooore
We're coming alive
We're coming alive
