Cempaka wangi ~ Andy Tielman
The song title means fragrance of Magnolia champaca in Indonesian language. Magnolia champaca, commonly called yellow jade orchid tree, is a large evergreen tree, native to the Indomalaya ecozone (consisting of South Asia, Southeast Asia and some parts of China). It is best known for its strongly fragrant yellow or white flowers. It is, however, primarily cultivated for its timber, and is also used in urban landscaping. Its aril-covered seeds are highly attractive to birds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnolia_champaca- published: 26 Oct 2013

How We Spent the Typhoon, Sharing the Longan
Dimocarpus longan, commonly known as the longan is a tropical tree that produces edible fruit. It is one of the better known tropical members of the soapberry family to which the lychee also belongs. It is native to the Indomalaya ecozone defined by South Asia and Southeast Asia, and is fairly common in the Philippines, where they have a different name for it (everything has a different name in Tagalog, including of course the rude words). The longan (龍眼 lóng yǎn, lit. "dragon's eye"), is so named because it resembles an eyeball when its fruit is shelled (the black seed shows through the translucent flesh like a pupil or iris).- published: 22 Sep 2013

Otters galore in the Brahmaputra river
Hear these Otters cheeping and chirping from the waters of the Brahmaputra river in eastern India's state of Assam! The Smooth-coated Otter (Lutrogale perspicillata) is a species of otter, the only extant representative of the genus Lutrogale. The species is found in most of the Indian Subcontinent and eastwards to Southeast Asia, with a disjunct population in Iraq. As its name indicates, the fur of this species is smoother and shorter than that of other otters. Smooth-coated otters are relatively large for otters, from 7 to 11 kilograms (15 to 24 lb) in weight and 59 to 64 centimetres (23 to 25 in) in head-body length, with a 37 to 43 centimetres (15 to 17 in) tail. They may be distinguished from other species of otter by a more rounded head and a hairless nose in the shape of a distorted diamond. The tail is flattened, in contrast to the more rounded tails of other species. The legs are short and strong, with large webbed feet bearing strong claws. As their name suggests, they have unusually short and sleek fur; this is dark to reddish brown along the back, while the underside is light brown to almost grey in color. Females have two pairs of teats. Smooth-coated otters occur throughout much of the Indian Subcontinent and contiguous regions of Southeast Asia, in the Indomalaya ecozone. An isolated population of the species is also found in the marshes of Iraq. Smooth-coated otters are found in areas where fresh water is plentiful wetlands and seasonal swamps, rivers, lakes, and rice paddies. Where they are the only species of otter, they may be found in almost any suitable habitat, but where they are sympatric with other species, they avoid smaller streams and canals in favour of larger bodies of water. They have adapted to life in an aqueous habitat, but are nonetheless comfortable on land, and may travel long distances overland in search of suitable habitats. Pigeon mating dance
Pigeon mating dance
Pigeons and doves constitute the bird clade Columbidae, that includes some 310 species. They are stout-bodied birds with short necks, and have short, slender bills with fleshy ceres. Doves feed on seeds, fruits, and plants. This family occurs worldwide, but the greatest variety is in the Indomalaya and Australasia ecozones. In general, the terms "dove" and "pigeon" are used somewhat interchangeably. In ornithological practice, "dove" tends to be used for smaller species and "pigeon" for larger ones, but this is in no way consistently applied, and historically, the common names for these birds involve a great deal of variation between the terms. The species most commonly referred to as "pigeon" is the Feral Rock Pigeon, common in many cities. Doves and pigeons build relatively flimsy nests from sticks and other debris, which may be placed in trees, on ledges, or on the ground, depending on species. They lay one or two eggs, and both parents care for the young, which leave the nest after seven to 28 days.[1] Unlike most birds, both sexes of doves and pigeons produce "crop milk" to feed to their young, secreted by a sloughing of fluid-filled cells from the lining of the crop. Young doves and pigeons are called "squabs".- published: 27 Aug 2013

EVIL BIRD ATTACKS BOY
EVIL BIRD ATTACKS BOY
Ok, Ive see a lot of signs that say, "Beware of Dog." But never have I seen one that says "Beware of Bird/" According to Joey Schmitts at the Balderdash Apartments in Louisville, KY, one of the residents trained a wild pigeon to guard the doorway to the upstairs apartments. I thought it was a joke at first, but when we tested it with my Nephew, we learned it was the truth. This bird was incredible aggressive and would not give up. Now, I understand this is not going to stop someone who is serious about gaining entry but I'm sure there was more than one solicitor who decided to turn back after tangling with big bertha.
