Apostolos Vellios (Greek: Απόστολος Βέλλιος) (born 8 January 1992) is a Greek footballer who plays for English club Everton Reserves and the Greek U-21 national team. He has previously played in Greece for Iraklis.
Vellios started his professional career at Iraklis in 2008. He made his debut against in a 4–1 away defeat by Skoda Xanthi on 26 April 2009, as he came in as a late substitute for Dimitris Giantsis, for the last round of the 2008–09 season. His first goal was an equalizer in injury time against Olympiacos in Karaiskakis Stadium on 7 November 2009, to help Iraklis escape with an away draw against the Greek giants. He was named MVP of the 10th round of the Greek Superleague for his performance in that match. At the end of the season, he totalled nine appearances for the club, all as a substitute, and two goals.
Following interest from Fulham,Olympiacos,AEK, and Bologna, Vellios signed for Everton in January 2011 for a fee of £250,000 on a 4 year deal. Vellios scored Everton Reserves' only goal in his debut, as they suffered an 5–1 home defeat against Blackburn Rovers Reserves. Vellios made his first-team debut for Everton against Aston Villa in the Premier League, on 2 April 2011, replacing Jermaine Beckford after 80 minutes. He scored his first goal for the first team in a home 3–1 win against Wigan Athletic on 17 September 2011. His second goal was scored away against Chelsea after being on the pitch for only 18 seconds, 8 seconds from play being restarted. Once again he appeared as a substitute away at Bolton Wanderers, he scored with a right footed shot to make it 2–0, making it his third goal for Everton after playing just 235 minutes on the pitch. However he was subsequently completely dropped from the squad by Moyes and pushed into the reserves despite being the top scorer. He currently mainly plays for Everton Reserves, however still holding the Premier League statistic of a goal every 86 minutes, still the highest rate at Everton this season.
Aiden McGeady (born 4 April 1986) is a footballer who currently plays as a winger for Russian club Spartak Moscow and the Republic of Ireland national football team. He started his career at Scottish Premier League club Celtic before moving to Russia in 2010 for £9.5 million. This made him the most expensive player to be sold by a Scottish club.
McGeady was born in Scotland but chose to play internationally for Ireland. He qualifies to play for them through his grandparents. He helped his country qualify for UEFA Euro 2012 and manager Giovanni Trapattoni named him in his squad for the tournament. His father John McGeady was also a professional footballer.
McGeady ascended through the ranks of the youth and reserve teams of Scottish Premier League club Celtic. He was handed his senior debut on 24 April 2004 aged 18 in a league game against Hearts at Tynecastle late in the 2003–04 season. He started the match and marked it with a goal after 17 minutes. He made his UEFA Champions League debut the next season in a game against Italian side AC Milan and made the breakthrough into the first-team that same season, with 27 appearances in the league as Celtic finished runners up in Martin O'Neill's final season with the club.
David William Moyes (born 25 April 1963) is a Scottish former footballer and the current manager of English Premier League club Everton. He was the 2003, 2005 and 2009 League Managers Association Manager of the Year. He is also on the Committee for the League Managers Association in an executive capacity.
Moyes made over 550 league appearances as a centre half in a playing career that began with Celtic, where he won a championship medal. He then played for Dunfermline Athletic and ended his playing career with Preston North End. He became a coach at Preston, working his way up to assistant manager before eventually taking over as manager in 1998, his first managerial position.
Moyes became manager of Everton in March 2002 and under him the club qualified for the Champions League in 2005 and reached the FA Cup final in 2009. Upon reaching his tenth anniversary at the club Moyes received praise from many fellow managers including Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsène Wenger and Kenny Dalglish for his achievements at Everton, despite operating with a limited budget. His service to Everton was also raised in Parliament by Steve Rotheram MP. Moyes is the third-longest serving manager in the Premier League and the English football league system as a whole, behind Ferguson and Wenger.
Konstantinos "Kostas" Mitroglou (Κωνσταντίνος Μήτρογλου) (born 12 March 1988) is a Greek international footballer who is currently playing for Olympiacos.
He was born in Kavala, but soon after he and his family moved to Germany. There he was signed to VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach youth team in 2002, and made it to the first team in 2005. He scored 24 goals at the age of 11 in his team Maura Poulia in 16 matches.
After making an impression in the 2007 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship, Mitroglou was signed by Greek champions Olympiacos CFP. Making a few substitute and starting 11 appearances for the Piraeus based team in his first season, Mitroglou scored his first Super League goal for the club against Levadiakos and more notably scored the only goal in the Greek Super Cup clash against AEL 1964. The promising striker was instrumental for Olympiakos during the last fixtures of the season 2007–08 netting several goals and helping towards the claim of the league trophy.
On 16 September, Mitroglou scored the first goal in the 2–0 UEFA Cup 1st round, first leg victory away against FC Nordsjælland. Season 2008–09 saw limited playing time in the starting 11 for Mitroglou. The then coach Ernesto Valverde preferred to play with Diogo Luis Santo as the lone striker.
Romelu Menama Lukaku (born 13 May 1993) is a Belgian footballer of Congolese descent who plays as a forward for Premier League club Chelsea and the Belgium national team. He started his career with local side Rupel Boom, before being scouted and joining Lierse. He played well and attracted many clubs to his talents. He alerted Anderlecht and signed for the Belgian Pro League side in 2006.
Lukaku continued his development with Anderlecht and made his professional debut while still at school at the age of 16. During his time at Anderlecht, he was dubbed as 'the new Drogba', the player whom he idolized growing up. Whilst playing for Anderlecht, he became the 2009–10 top scorer in Belgium as Anderlecht won the Belgian championship, and won the Belgian Ebony Shoe in 2011. In the 2011 summer transfer window, Lukaku signed for English Premier League club Chelsea for an undisclosed fee and penning a 5-year contract.
Lukaku joined his local team Rupel Boom at the age of five. After four seasons at Rupel Boom, Lukaku was discovered by scouts of Lierse SK, a Belgian Pro League team with an established youth academy. He played for Lierse from 2004 until 2006, scoring 121 goals in 68 games. After Lierse were relegated from the Belgian Pro League, Anderlecht bought no less than 13 youth players from Lierse in the 2006 mid-season, one of which was Lukaku. He played three more years as a youth player with Anderlecht, scoring 131 goals in 93 games.
