Battle of Sudomer (Bitva u Sudoměře) Судомержская битва.
The Battle of Sudomĕř was fought on 25 March, 1420, between Catholic and Hussite forces. The Hussites were led by Břeněk of Švihov - who was killed in battle - and Jan Žižka, whose forces proved victorious. This was the second major battle of the Hussite Wars; the first battle, the Battle of Nekmíř, was more of a Hussite retreat than a true fight. The Battle of Sudomĕř began after Hussite forces which had taken up temporary fortifications on the plains were found by Royalist forces, who closed in for an attack. The Hussites were greatly outnumbered 5 to 1, and initially hoisted the white flag, but when the Royalists refused to accept their surrender the battle truly began. Though outnumbered and comparatively ill-equipped, facing heavily armoured knights, the Hussites had fortified their surroundings ingeniously. Their flank was protected by war wagons loaded with arquebusiers, and many large ponds and marshy areas surrounded the Hussite infantry - ground which the Royalist Cavalry could not hope to cross. One thousand Johannites from Strakonice led by Jindřich of Hradec - killed in battle - attacked war wagons placed on a slim dam, with huge casualties but no success. After that, another thousand Royalist cavalrymen, led by Peter von Konopischt of Sternberg - killed in the Battle of Vítkov Hill later that year - rushed a weakly held side of the Hussite formation, but were mired in marshy ground. They dismounted in order to progress, but soon found themselves mired once more. Following this, the Hussite light infantry equipped with flails were able to easily finish the cavalrymen. The battle ended with the advance of night and fog, during which Žižka and the Hussite forces were able to escape. Though the Catholic Royalists were not entirely defeated, the fact the Hussites were able to inflict such heavy casualties with so few men, and then escape soundly proved to be a great victory. Only 400 hussites - farmers and townsmen, including women and children - beat the 2,000-strong force of heavily armoured cavalry. Hussite General, Jan Žižka, through superior knowledge of tactics and terrain, along with the highly effective deployment of vozová hradba (wagon fort) strategies, won the day. www.budweis-regatta.eu- published: 03 Apr 2014

The Chateau Liboun - Hotel and Restaurant.
The Chateau Liboun - Hotel and Restaurant.
The chateau in Liboun, originally a gothic fortress, is a private property of the Chlistovsky family . Currently perfectly restored, serves as a hotel and restaurant. The chateau is closely connected with a history of the Premonstrate monastery in Lounovice village, founded in the year 1149 at the foot of the mystery Blanik mountain, Shortly after, in the second half of the XII century, there was built a Romanesque rotunda (round-house) in the Liboun and also the Liboun village. At the same time, there was built a fortress ( of a defensive character) with the farmyard inside. In the sixties of the 14th century broked into history of lounovice monastery property domain - significant at that time - Lords of Duba village – Ondrej Rohac from Duba and his brother, Benes Libun. After some time time, Hussite wars also hit to the history of the fortress. In the year 1420, the Hussites burned Lounovice monastery so much, that it has never been restored. Also the fortress was ambushed and burned by Hussites. Due to Hussite Wars, the fortress with a farmyard went under the administration of the Tabor municipality. After the year 1547, in time of King Ferdinand I., Tabor property were confiscated and Liboun fortress bought by Jan from Pernstejn. It has been a year and Jan from Pernstejn sold the Liboun and Lounovice property to the Christopher Skuhrovsky from the Skuhrov village ( he already owned a large estate on the territory around). When his son Ulrich died ( the last male descendant of Skuhrov) in the year 1652, his two daughters partitioned the property. Magdalena received Lounovice, a younger daughter Elizabeth Catherine received Liboun and Zvestov. But, due to large debts, Elizabeth sold the entire property in the year 1674 to Jan Krystof Malovec (Lord of Malovice). He died in the year 1677 and his sons partitioned the property as following: Antonin received Zvestov and Vaclav Malovec received Liboun. The Liboun property included also Laby, Borkovice and Ramena villages and Saint Wenceslas church. So the Liboun again, after a hundred and fifty years, became a center of aristocratic, separate property. Václav Malovec from Malovice, in the year 1690, rebuilt the fortress into new object, a stone castle (chateau), built on a rock, the stylistic features of the late renaissance. After this period, the chateau was owned by several liboun aristocrats. The owner, Josef Benedikt ( the Earl of Veznik), sold the chateau in the year 1767 to Maria Josepha von Auersperg, for 49,000 zlaty and 50 ducats . She already owned, in the same time, the estate Vlasim with a chateau, with 12 farmyards, forests, ponds etc . The Auersperg family were an owner of the property until the first land reform in the year 1920. In this year, Frantisek Chlistovsky, sold his property - a house in the Myslic village ( Benesov municipality) - and from the January 1, 1920 he rented the Domasin farmyard ( 120 ha area), from the State Land Office (SPU), originally owned by the Auersperg family. At the end of 1922, the lease was prematurely terminated (on SPU side) and the farmyard was completely partitioned. As to a good householder and farmer, at January 4, 1923, the SPU firstly rented and later sold a residual estate in Liboun villege to the family Chlistovsky on credit. The family Chlistovsky paid their debts till the year 1939. Then came World War 2 and after the year 1948, the farmyard was partitioned again by communist government . At July 1, 1953, the family Chlistovsky was moved away from the Liboun village without any compensation. Later, a State farm was an owner of a farmyard in the Liboun. After 1989, a real estate No.1 in the Liboun was absolutely devastated, ruined. The real estate no.1 was returned to the family Chlistovsky in the year 1994 as a restitution. Since that time, the family Chlistovsky for 20 years corrects past mistakes and reconstructed the cultural monument, registered under evidence number 17304/2-91.- published: 27 Jul 2014
