I am a 22 year old female who had an abortion two weeks ago. It was a terrible decision that I regret with whole of my body and soul that I took under the pressure of my whole family and was agaisn't my partners beliefs. It's only after it happened that the nature of my act really hit me. The grief is unbearable. I have been seven months with my partner and we are in awkward situation. He has stopped trusting me and does not want to fully commit to me anymore. He wants us to switch from a serious to an open relationship. I know I betrayed him by doing the abortion but I can't bare the thought of losing him too. I can't be happy in an uncommitted relationship but I feel that if I truly love him I only deserve to receive whatever he is giving me. It's easy to tell myself I will found another partner but I want to prove him that I am worthy of our love and I have a hard time not seeing myself with him. I feel miserable and pitiful of losing first my baby and now the love of my life. How can I go through my grief? Should I compromise my happiness for him? I tend to look at issues from an intellectual standpoint. The issue of abortion is the result of pregnancy. Unwanted pregnancy is the result of sexual irresponsibility. What I mean by this is that if a man and a woman are having sex and an unwanted pregnancy occurs, then abortion can become an option for them. However, if the man and the woman were sexually responsible then the woman would not become pregnant and abortion would not become an option for them. In other words, being sexually responsible is the first thing that a man or a woman can do in order to avoid unwanted pregnancy and or abortion. Abortion is not over once the abortion procedure is completed. A woman will live with the abortion experience for the rest of their life. This is why people should think critically about abortion. A woman should also talk with her partner about the possibility of an abortion. The man’s perspective is important but ultimately the final decision belongs to the woman. Many women have abortions because of family pressure. Abortion is the ending of pregnancy by the removal or forcing out from the womb of a fetus or embryo before it is able to survive on its own.[note 1] An abortion can occur spontaneously, in which case it is often called a miscarriage. It can also be purposely caused in which case it is known as an induced abortion. The term abortion most commonly refers to the induced abortion of a human pregnancy. The similar procedure after the fetus may be able to survive on its own is medically known as a "late termination of pregnancy".
