Leader Kim Jong Un is believed to be suffering from gout. Korean Central News Agency
Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un missed a session of North Korea's parliament for the first time since coming to power almost three years ago, as state television said he was experiencing "discomfort" and South Korea's Yonhap news agency said he was believed to be suffering from gout.
Official footage of the Thursday meeting of the Supreme People's Assembly showed no sign of Kim. That extended his absence from public view dating to Sept. 3.
North Korean TV, in an unusual acknowledgment, said Kim had "discomfort in his body."
Kim "is believed to be suffering from gout due to his poor management of his health as well as family traits," Yonhap reported yesterday, citing a person familiar with North Korean affairs. - Bloomberg
