Plot
Stan Ross was a baseball superstar who turned his back on the game years ago when he finally hit 3,000 hits. Years later, he's now a successful, self-made entrepreneur whose many businesses revolve around his title: Mr. 3000. But a clerical error has proven that Stan is just short three hits of his spectacular hit record. Now, with time on his side and the potential to be inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame, Stan must return back to the game and get back his title. But things have changed with age, and as Stan finds out, it's not too easy to get back into the game when he hasn't played for years, and he's nearing 50.

He's putting the "I" back in team.
Big league. Big mouth. Big time.
Back in the game. Out of his league.
Hits theaters everywhere.
Big Horse Borelli: You know, a lot of people said that Stan only looked out for himself, that he wasn't a team player. But I'm here to tell you, if you get 3000 hits, you don't have to be a team player. If you have a lifetime .314 average, you don't have to be a good guy. If you lead the league in batting for three years, you can be the biggest jerk in the world!
Norton: Hey Ross, why don't you just go sit on the bench? You're not getting this hit off of me. Deal with it!
Stan: Pitch to me!::Norton: Reach out there and get it.
Minadeo: Stan Ross! You're batting 8th!::Stan: 8th! That's for banjo hitters. I never batted lower than 5th in my life.::Fukuda: You bat there now, you son of my dick.
Rex 'T-Rex' Pennebaker: When you get a base hit in this millennium, then you can come on down there, and talk to me.
Stan: Stan, you're going to be the best looking cat in the Hall of Fame, that's for dog gone sure.
Tom Arnold: Hey, we're sorry about all that stuff we said before you hit that homer...::Stan: Yeah, you wouldn't be anywhere if it wasn't for Roseanne.
[Stan is in a commerical]::Stan: You don't like me because I sign autographs. [hits a baseball] You don't like me because I tell you what's on my mind. [Hits another baseball] But you love me because I am the greatest hitters alive! [swings a few more hits]
Gus Panas: That man was safe!

This album received acclaim from critics and gained a Grammy Nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album. In March 2012, "We Are Young", the song by the band Fun on which Monáe makes a guest appearance, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, her first appearance in the US Top 10.

Lookin' back now makes me laugh
We were growin' our hair, we were cuttin' class
Knew it all already there was nothin' to learn
We were strikin' matches just to watch em burn
Listening to our music just a little too loud
We were hangin' in there with the outkast crowd
Headin' to the rapids with some discount beer
It was a long train trestle but we had no fear
And man I don't know where the time goes
But it sure goes fast just like that
We were wanna be rebels who didn't have a clue
In our rock and roll t-shirts and our typically bad attitudes
Had no excuses for the things that we'd done
We were brave, we were crazy, we were mostly young, young
Talked a good game when we were out with the guys
But in the back seat we were awkward and shy
Girls were a mystery that we couldn't explain
And I guess there are somethings that are never gonna change
And man I don't know where the time goes
But it sure goes fast just like that
We were wanna be rebels who didn't have a clue
In our rock and roll t-shirts and our typically bad attitudes
Had no excuses for the things that we'd done
We were brave, we were crazy, we were mostly young, young
Young, ya we were wishin' we were older
Young, hey I wish it wasn't over
Man I don't know where the time goes
But it sure goes fast just like that
We were wanna be rebels who didn't have a clue
In our rock and roll t-shirts and our typically bad attitudes
Had no excuses for the things that we'd done
We were brave, we were crazy, we were mostly young, young
And wishin' we were older

Young and with no clue.
An' I wanna love you.
Give me the key to,
What is so bad.
Everything I've read.
An' everything you've said,
Prove you're over my head.
Help me climb out.
I know that you told me nobody.
Are you sure you're that sure about me?
Hey, what did I do?
I've spoken too soon.
Listen, now this tune,
Forget the words.
Waited till someday,
'Cause when I know what you'd say.
Say it in the best way.
You've ever heard.
I know that you told me, nobody.
Are you sure you're that sure about me?
Young and with no clue.
Still wanna love you.
Give credit where it's due,
I've got good taste.
It's not like I wanna get married.
I never asked you to kiss me.
Just don't want you to be sorry.
I never sleep
I shoot up speed
I'm on top
around the clock
I shoot up speed
a life of bliss
a new day comin'
I never miss
It never ends
I don't have friends
I've got my shot
I talk a lot
A one man show
I'm talkin' mono
yakkety yak
don't talk back
I never sleep
and break it up
I shoot up speed
I'm blessed in weed
I'm wide open
around the clock
See me runnin' honey 'round the block
I stand up dreamin' I don't waste time
Feedback don't reach me
but I feel fine
yakkety yak
don't talk back
Cause you're young
Cause you're young
When you're young
When you're young
I've got my choice
so I can win
I'm still narcotic
under my skin
I'm a wreck
hear me moan
I'm suicidal
she ain't home
See the crowd
go to the office
I can smile
cause I'm the toughest
Fixin' speed
fixin' the backseat
I'm hangin' out
I never sleep
Cause you're young
Cause you're young
When you're young
When you're young
I never sleep
I shoot up speed
I'm on top
around the clock
I shoot up speed
a life of bliss
a new day comin'
I won't miss
It never ends
I don't have friends
I've got my shot
I talk a lot
A one man show
I'm talkin' mono
yakkety yak
honey - don't talk back
Cause you're young - yakkety yak - honey - don't talk back
Cause you're young - yakkety yak - don't talk back
When you're young - keeps me young
When you're young - keeps me young
We are young, we have heart
Born in this world as it all falls apart
We are strong, we don't belong
Born in this world as it all falls apart
I see the children in the rain like the parade before the pain
I see the love, I see the hate, I see this world that we can make
I see the life, I see the sky, give it all to see you fly
Yes, we wave this flag of hatred but you're the ones who made it
Watch the beauty of all our lies passing right before my eyes
I hear the hate in all your words, all the wars to make us hurt
We get so sick of so sick, we never wanted all this
Medication for the kids with no reason to live
So we march to the drums of the dammed as we come
Watch it burn in the sun, we are numb
We are young, we have heart
Born in this world as it all falls apart
We are strong, we don't belong
Born in this world as it all falls apart
As we walk among these shadows, in these streets, this fields of battle
Take it up, we wear the medal, raise your hands with burning candles
Hear us whisper in the dark, in the rain you see the spark
Feel the beating of our hearts, fleeting hope as we depart
All together, walk alone against all we've ever known
All we've ever really wanted was a place to call our home
But you take all we are, the innocence of our hearts
Made to kneel before the alter as you tear us apart
So we march to the drums of the dammed as we come
Watch it burn in the sun, we are numb
We are young, we have heart
Born in this world as it all falls apart
We are strong, we don't belong
Born in this world as it all falls apart
We will fight or we will fall till the angels save us all
We will fight or we will fall till the angels save us all
We will fight or we will fall till the angels save us all
We will fight or we will fall till the angels save us all
We are young, we have heart
Born in this world as it all falls apart
We are strong, we don't belong
Born in this world as it all falls apart
We are young, we have heart
Born in this world as it all falls apart
We are strong, we don't belong
You and I are young
What makes it wrong
For us to fall in love
And either way
We'll never change
We'll talk and touch
The day away
Now would you
Love me, if I was crazy
Girl, I'm going crazy for you
I'm crazy for you
Lets waste away together
We can stay this way forever
Because we're never gonna be as young as we are tonight
We'll let the world know we're alive
We're here to chase the flashing lights
Just wait and see
And there's no need to complicate it
This will be our year to take it
We're never gonna be as young as we are tonight
I like the way
You throw away
The keys, forget your car
To walk with me
The way you always found
The way to see the finer things
Now would you
Love me, if I was crazy
Girl, I'm going crazy for you
I'm crazy for you
Lets waste away together
We can stay this way forever
Because we're never gonna be as young as we are tonight
We'll let the world know we're alive
We're here to chase the flashing lights
Just wait and see
And there's no need to complicate it
This will be our year to take it
We're never gonna be as young as we are tonight
If I'm Romeo
Then you're Juliet
As long as I'm breathing
I'll love you to death
Forget all your friends
We're nothing to them
I swear
I'll do anything
That you want me to
They tell me I'm crazy
For falling for you
We'll say what we are
They know how we do
Because we're never gonna be as young as we are tonight
We'll let the world know we're alive
We're here to chase the flashing lights
Just wait and see
And there's no need to complicate it
This will be our year to take it
We're never gonna be as young as we are tonight
Because we're never gonna be as young as we are tonight
We'll let the world know we're alive
We're here to chase the flashing lights
Just wait and see
And there's no need to complicate it
This will be our year to take it
Emptiness is form
The lines have yet to fill your face
But your time is still being taken away
I'm leaving now
Crawling north where it's cold and green
I'm leaving now
Going to see sights unseen
We are young, but not for long
Absentee, your silence has been noticed
With an open wound and bright hope
May swords of hatred fall from our hands
With an open wound and bright hope
