Henry Kenneth Alfred "Ken" Russell (3 July 1927 – 27 November 2011) was an English film director, known for his pioneering work in television and film and for his flamboyant and controversial style. He attracted criticism as being obsessed with sexuality and the church. His films often dealt with the lives of famous composers or were based on other works of art which he adapted loosely. Russell began directing for the BBC, where he made creative adaptations of composers' lives which were unusual for the time. He also directed many feature films independently and for studios.
He is best known for his Oscar-winning film Women in Love (1969), The Devils (1971), The Who's Tommy (1975), and the science fiction film Altered States (1980). Classical musicians and conductors held him in high regard for his story-driven biopics of various composers, most famously Elgar, Delius, Liszt, Mahler and Tchaikovsky.
British film critic Mark Kermode speaking in 2006, and attempting to sum up the director's achievement, called Russell, "somebody who proved that British cinema didn't have to be about kitchen-sink realism—it could be every bit as flamboyant as Fellini. Later in his life he turned to making experimental films such as Lion's Mouth and Revenge of the Elephant Man, and they are as edgy and 'out there' as ever".

This shit is wicked on these mean streets
None of my friends speak
We're all trying to win, but then again
Maybe it's for the best though, 'cause when they're seeing too much
You know they're trying to get you touched
Whoever said illegal was the easy way out couldn't understand the
mechanics
And the workings of the underworld, granted
Nine to five is how to survive, I ain't trying to survive
I'm trying to live it to the limit and love it a lot
Life ills, poison my body
I used to say 'fuck mic skills,' and never prayed to God, I prayed to
Gotti
That's right it's wicked, that's life I live it
Ain't asking for forgiveness for my sins, endz
I break bread with the late heads, picking their brains for angles on
all the evils that the game'll do
It gets dangerous, money and power is changing us
And now we're lethal, infected with D'Evils...
We used to fight for building blocks
Now we fight for blocks with buildings that make a killing
The closest of friends when we first started
But grew apart as the money grew, and soon grew black-hearted
Thinking back when we first learned to use rubbers
He never learned so in turn I'm kidnapping his baby's mother
My hand around her collar, feeding her cheese
She said the taste of dollars was shitty so I fed her fifties
About his whereabouts I wasn't convinced
So I kept feeding her money 'til her shit started to make sense
Who could ever forsee, we used to stay up all night at slumber parties
now I'm trying to rock this bitch to sleep
All the years we were real close
Now I see his fears through her tears, know she's wishing we were still
close
Don't cry, it is to be
In time, I'll take away your miseries and make 'em mine, D'Evils...
My flesh, no nigga could test
My soul is possessed by D'Evils in the form of diamonds and lexuses
The exorcist, got me doing skits like Homie
You don't know me, but the whole world owe me
Strip!
Was thought to be a pleasant guy all my fucking life
So now I'm down for whatever, ain't nothing nice
Throughout my junior high years it was all friendly
But now this higher learning got the Remy in me
Liquors invaded my kidneys
Got me ready to lick off, mama forgive me
I can't be held accountable, D'Evils beating me down, boo
Got me running with guys, making G's, telling lies that sound true
Come test me, I never cower
For the love of money, son, I'm giving lead showers
Stop screaming, you know the demon said it's best to die
Hear my voice, hear my voice, hear my voice
Make your choice, make your choice, make your choice
Beat the drum, beat the drum, beat the drum
Hide the sun, hide the sun, hide the sun
Devils in my head tonight
All is wrong if it's not right, take care
Whispers in the walls I hear
Nothing ever made quite clear, beware
Go to hell, go to hell, go to hell
Make me well, make me well, make me well
Show your hand, show your hand, show your hand
Make a stand, make a stand, make a stand
Angels in my heart tonight
Say the word and make it right, so dark
Angels fly in my dreams
All is never what it seems, take heart
Speak my name, speak my name, speak my name
Feel no shame, feel no shame, feel no shame
Take your time, take your time, take your time
You are mine, you are mine, you are mine
Monsters in my eyes today
I can't make them go away, it's true
Stranges in the world it seems
Nightmare visions, fever, dreams
I dream of you
Sweet man of Grace, I tremble form your power
Great man of mystery, come lie with me this hour
Oh Dark Confessor
Who has know such wickedness
Unlock this tortured soul and grant my spririt rest
Though you would claim
That God inspires your Holy Plan
There is a darker force
That guides your charming hand
Grandier, Grandier
Free me from this blind madness
I want you, I love you, oh dear God forgive me
Grandier, what is this lunacy you spread?
A thousand screaming hearts shall see you dead
So many maids within your bed have lain
So many bastards would dare to mar your name
There is just one love you need have on this Earth
Though you would notice not a Sister of the Church
My head is reeling from the devils you have sent
You are the Beast to whom I shall repent
Who told you about a man without fear
Who told you about a god who does not care
Who told you about a pain that does not hurt
Who told you about a love that turns to dirt
Devils
You've got a face-to-face with your
Devils
You've got a race to race with your
Devils
You've got to find a place among your
Devils
You cannot replace your
Devils
Devils
Who told you about cause and effect
Who told you about a heart that can forget
Who told you about fortune and fame
Who told you that the evil has got no name
Devils
You've got a face-to-face with your
Devils
You've got a race to race with your
Devils
You've got to find a place among your
Devils
You cannot replace your
Devils
You can€™t deny
Devils
They€™ll get you in the night
You gotta ride on your rage with your devils
Help me to see Your way and Your light.
help turn night to day, help I.
Because when I'm down on my knees, I'm high.
And I been trying to find some peace, I try...
But i see innocence so far away.
And I see, we need so much work, but we play.
And You still let us live, and love us.
You put nothing on earth above us.
Those devils they pass against me, what can I say?
Always known where to find me-
Cuz since the very first, I mean of my days,
Keep their lights on to blind me.
Oh it's bittersweet, follow me, how we're born
100 years pass by- your plan, Jah- we're gone.
We're tired while we're here, so we sleep.
We always take much more than we need.
We think more than we say, than we know, and...
Say more than we feel, than we show...
And You still let us live, and love us.
You put nothing on earth above us.
Devils they pass against me, what can I say?
Always known where to find me -
Cuz since the very first, I mean of my days,
Keep their lights on to blind me.
Oh it feels so cold, sometimes.
Like when i start feeling old in my life...
but right then I remember why I'm here, why I'm free.
And it all comes rushing back to me, cuz I breathe.
One day my speech will stop, A-Z.
And all my secrets unlock, and You'll see
my ten thousand transgressions and all
that I've ever done -
I'll be right here, waiting on You
until that day I'm gone...
Till I'm gone, gone...
Till I'm gone, gone...
Till I'm gone, gone...
I'll be gone.
Till I'm gone, gone...
Till I'm gone, gone...
Till I'm gone, gone...
I'll be gone.
I'll be waiting down here...alone.
The devils they pass against me so what can I say say?
Things can happen in an instant,
and things can go unnoticed,
and things can be blurted out without question
I know I have no reason to feel the way that I do
I know I have no reason to feel the way I do, way I do feel about you
I told myself that I was through yeah
I told myself that I was through
I told myself that I was through but am I really through with you
Me with my other you've found another these devils on my shoulder have torn me apart
Me with my other you've found another these devils on my shoulder have torn me apart
Me with my other you've found another these devils on my shoulder have torn me apart
Feeling cheated is ridiculous on my part but it's there for some reason it's there
I set myself up for destruction, I think I knew it from the start
I set myself up for destruction, I think I knew it from the start
I set myself up for destruction, I think I knew it from the start
The devil looked me in the eyes
And called me by my name
Knowing of the consequence
Denied the deal he's made
What if's running through my head
Distorts my mental frame
He tipped his hat, and big farewell
And said I know that you will come around
So I'll dig deep into my soul
Find a stronger me I used to know
The one who said they'd never give up
The one who said they'd never let...
Clouded head with bad ideas
And dangerous demands
Boredom calls, my greatest fall
The devil finds work for idle hands
I'm just so tired, completely uninspired
I've lost my grip on everything, on everything
And my heart succeeds again
A civil war now with my mind
All the time
And I'm losing it again
Say what you want but
I'll be fine, I'll be fine
Strong confident man
Try not to break character
If no one knows it exists
I've been sitting here for hours,Waiting for the night
to come.
Waiting here for you,
To take me where I want to be.
So don't you disappoint me,
Oh, my little one.
Sickness lives inside me,
Until you come to me...
Oh my little one,
Come and set me free,
From my little world...
Devils crawl inside me,
Until you come...
So just come to me,
My little girl.
For a fraction of your sympathy,
I follow where you lead.
The broken lands of confidence,
I view with no surprise...
This sickness of the heart protects me,
Far beyond all need.
This coiled thing inside me,
Waits for you to come to me...
Oh my little one,
Come and set me free,
From my little world...
Devils crawl inside me,
Until you come.
So just come to me,
My little girl...
Don't you disappoint me.
My little one,
Come and set me free,
From my little world...
Devils crawl inside me,
Until you come...
So come to me,
My little girl.
Just set me free!
Just set me free!
