Office furniture maker
to open facility in Suffolk
A California office furniture manufacturer plans to open a new facility in Virginia.
Friant and Associates chose the Suffolk location over one in Maryland, according to Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s office.
The Oakland, Calif.-based company will invest more than $17 million to establish its first Virginia operation and create 166 jobs.
The company, which was founded in 1990, designs and manufactures customizable high-end office systems.
McAuliffe approved a $200,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Suffolk with the project. The company will also receive benefits from the Port of Virginia Economic and Infrastructure Development Zone Grant Program. Funding and services to support the company’s employee training activities will be provided through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.

Roanoke airport plans
to add handicap parking
Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is expanding parking outside the main terminal for people with disabilities.
The airport says parking compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act will be expanded within the curbside passenger loading and unloading areas.
The work will be done in four phases. The project is expected to be completed by Dec. 11, weather permitting.
The airport’s commission has extended the time limit for free parking in the public parking lots from 15 minutes to 30 minutes because the project will limit available space for loading and unloading in front of the terminal.
