The notion that we have entered a new geological age is real and should be formally recognised, according to an international report ... Ten members of the 35-strong working group believe the best spike will probably be plutonium fallout from bomb tests in the 1950s, to be found in marine or lake sediments, ice layers or perhaps even speleothems (stalagmites and stalactites) ... These could all be relevant to the spike investigation ... ....

As a 12-year-old, Carlsbad Caverns seemed absolutely enormous and magically endless to me. My parents led the three of us kids through the dimly lit wonder hundreds of feet beneath the southeast New Mexican mountains when we were too young to appreciate what we were witnessing ... That meant that for five days admission was free ... It was the majesty and grandeur of these stalactite-covered ceilings that I found most fascinating....

My parents led the three of us kids through the dimly lit wonder hundreds of feet beneath the southeast New Mexican mountains when we were too young to appreciate what we were witnessing ...
