BBC Radio 3 is a national radio station operated by the BBC within the United Kingdom. Its output centres on classical music and opera, but jazz, world music, drama, culture and the arts also feature. The station is the world’s most significant commissioner of new music, and its New Generation Artists scheme promotes young musicians of all nationalities. All BBC Proms concerts are broadcast live on Radio 3, and all concerts performed by the BBC orchestras and BBC Singers are also broadcast, either live or recorded. There are regular productions of both classic plays and newly commissioned drama.
In 2009 Radio 3 won the Sony Radio Academy UK Station of the Year Gold Award. It was nominated for the same award in 2011.
Radio 3 is the successor station to the Third Programme which was originally launched on 29 September 1946. The name was changed on 30 September 1967 when the BBC launched its first pop music station, Radio 1. The three other national radio channels were then renamed Radio 2, (formerly the Light Programme), Radio 3 and Radio 4, (formerly the Home Service). Radio 3 took over the service which had been known under the umbrella title of the Third Network and which included on the same frequency the Third Programme itself, the Music Programme and various sports and adult education programmes. All the component programmes, including the Third Programme, kept their separate identities within Radio 3 until 4 April 1970, when there was further reorganisation following publication of the BBC document Broadcasting in the Seventies.

Well I ain't goin' down that big long lonesome road
Pretty baby don't you hear me talkin'
No I ain't goin' down that big road by myself
If I can't carrry you baby
I'm gonna get me someone else
Alright boys
Well the sun is gonna shine in my back door some
My back door some, my door someday
You know the sun is gonna shine in
My back door some day
That big wind is gonna come up and blow my blues away
Now if you don't want me baby
Now why don't you tell me
Now why don't you tell me, tell me so
If you don't want me baby why don't you tell me so
It ain't like I'm a woman who ain't got no place to go
Play it right now
Now what good is a bulldog, if he won't fuss or
He won't fuss or fight pretty baby
What good is a bulldog, if he won't fuss or fight.
I miss those evenings and the company
The lights go down around this place
The nights are long and go on endlessly
And I forget the human race
But there's one thing that brings me back to Earth
Please tell her
Tell her I need her
Tell her I want her
Tell her I miss her more every day
Tell her I need her
Tell her I want her
Tell her I miss her more every day
I take the days and spend them crazily
The feeling lasts all of my life
And while I thought that would be ecstasy
Caused no surprise but still shines bright
But there's one thing that brings me back to Earth
Please tell her
Tell her I need her
Tell her I want her
Tell her I miss her more every day
Tell her I need her
Ooh, tell her I want her
Tell her I miss her more every day
Oh, time goes, time goes
Solar shadows
I need her with me
All too clearly
Everybody knows
Tell her I need her
Tell her I want her
Tell her I miss her more and more every day
Tell her I need her
Ooh, tell her I want her
Have you heard about big red?
They even bought a beebread rig
To help the flowers in the mean space
They're trying to make that place green
Hope the bees will take away the storm
Hope the trees will take away the storm
Don't know how this whole thing started
There was a crowd and then we parted
Don't know if I'll ever go back
It's a long way across all of this black
Here I am in my bucket today
In the middle
Here I am in my bucket today
In the middle
They got a mule they call Sal
Bulldozing up canal walls
They're gonna tap that icecap too
When they do they're gonna make that green map blue
The weather is finally getting warm
And the weather is really getting warm
Don't know how this whole thing started
There was a cloud and then it parted
Don't know if I'll ever go back
That's how I felt when I left that tarmac
Here I am in my bucket today
In the middle
Here I am in my bucket today
We-hell-I see them every night in tight blue jeans--
In the pages of a blue boy magazine
Hey I've been thinking of a new sensation
I'm picking up--good vibration--
Oop--she bop--
Do I wanna go out with a lion's roar
Huh, yea, I wanna go south n get me some more
Hey, they say that a stitch in time saves nine
They say I better stop--or I'll go blind
Oop--she bop--she bop
She bop--he bop--a--we bop
I bop--you bop--a--they bop
Be bop--be bop--a--lu--she bop,
I hope He will understand
She bop--he bop--a--we bop
I bop--you bop--a--they bop
Be bop--be bop--a--lu--she bop,
Oo--oo--she--do--she bop--she bop
(whistle along here)...
Hey, hey--they say I better get a chaperone
Because I can't stop messin' with the danger zone
No, I won't worry, and I won't fret--
Ain't no law against it yet--
Oop--she bop--she bop--
She bop--he bop--we bop...
WRITER RODNEY CROWELL
She's got a big heart and her own mind a deep love it's the strong kind
She's got them long legs and that soft skin she's got a big heart
The way she moves through this old world is the way she moves my soul
Every room that she walks into comes alive
With her head held high she digs down deep and struggles like we all will
But she makes it look so easy I could die
She's got a big heart...
Big old tears fall down when she's unhappy
Big old moon comes rising when she smiles
With her hair of gold and eyes so blue they haunt you when you're sleeping
Sometimes I wake up laughin' right out loud
She's got a big heart and her own mind sweet soul man she's so fine
She'll live a long time she comes from a long line she's got a big heart
And there's something I've got to tell you and I'm not sure how to put it in words
I had a feeling you might have guessed that something's not right
Maybe you've already heard
I don't know, I don't know, I don't know
Oh please don't start crying, I've not been lying
I just didn't tell you it all
We just talked but then she stopped smiling when she asked me to give her a call
I don't know, I don't know, I don't know
I'm a big rat, but I get scared when you start talking like that
Why won't you see that she meant absolutely nothing to me?
I can't remember just what happened next but I'm not sure I even had any fun
Oh, she's amusing, but I was so scared of losing you
Well, after all that I've done
I don't know, I don't know, I don't know
I'm a big rat, but I get scared when you start talking like that
Why won't you see that she meant absolutely nothing to me?
I'm a big rat, but I get scared when you start talking like that
Why can't you see that she meant absolutely nothing to me?
And there's something I've got
To tell you and I'm not
Sure how to put it in words
I had a feeling you might
Have guessed that something's not right
Maybe you've already heard
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
Oh please don't start crying
I've not been lying
I just didn't tell you it all
We just talked but then she
Stopped smiling when she
Asked me to give her a call
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
I'm a big rat, but I get scared
When you start talking like that
Why won't you see that she meant
Absolutely nothing to me
I can't remember just what
Happened next but I'm not
Sure I even had any fun
Oh, she's amusing...
But I was so scared of losing you, well
After all that I've done
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
I'm a big rat, but I get scared
When you start talking like that
Why don't you see that she meant
Absolutely nothing to me
I'm a big rat, but I get scared
When you start talking like that
Oh why can't you see that she meant
Caught a three day shiver from the masquerade
Like a dog i'm begging to be anything in your eyes
Cause i'm so sick of being all alone
Can't find anywhere to call my home
In the dessert life left to roam
Blow time on the true
Buy right into you
So lay down the life
I don't care if all my soul is shed
I want to belong
There's a light on beckoning the empty in
And like a moth i'm circling around the fire of your lies
Their case keeps coming and i take the fall
Backbone shatters up against the wall
Now i believe in nothing at all
Blow time on the true
Buy right into you
So lay down the life
I don't care if all my soul is shed
I want to belong
I want to belong like you
