A mixed language is a language that arises through the fusion of two source languages, normally in situations of thorough bilingualism, so that it is not possible to classify the resulting language as belonging to either of the language families that were its source. Although the concept is frequently encountered in historical linguistics from the early twentieth century, attested cases of language mixture, as opposed to code-switching, substrata, or lexical borrowing, are quite rare. A mixed language may mark the appearance of a new ethnic or cultural group, such as the Métis. The fusion of more than two languages is not attested.
According to linguist Ghil'ad Zuckerman, "Every language is mixed to some extent," but few languages are "mixed languages" in the specific sense here.
A mixed language differs from a pidgin in that the speakers developing the language are fluent, even native, speakers of both languages, whereas a pidgin develops when groups of people with little knowledge of each other's languages come into contact and have need of a basic communication system, as for trade, but do not have enough contact to learn each other's language.

A well-recognized strength of Python is the ease with which it can be extended with libraries written in C. At the same time, the debugging story for such extensions has been notoriously poor, with no ability to seamlessly debug both languages at the same time. This talk showcases an implementation of such seamless debugging in Python Tools for Visual Studio.
Problems with existing Python and C++ debuggers when mixing two code types: no ability to step between the two, no way to peek at underlying native data structures under the hood when in Python. Seamless mixed-mode debugging of both types in a single debug session is necessary to solve these problems, including transparent stepping from Python to native code and from native to Python, breakpoints in both types of code side by side, and the ability to inspect how the objects look from the other side.
The talk showcases the overall mixed-mode experience in Python Tools for Visual Studio, and then goes over all the specific features listed above in detail, and the limitations imposed by the mixed-language model.

*Please note* Some of these students danced with me last year, all but two of the boys had never taken lessons with me ever and the girl who dances at the beginning had only ever taken Mongolian dance lessons until I came to teach them this dance in May! I had just two weeks to teach and modify the choreography so that they'd be able to have it in their feet in time for their performance which happened the very next weekend!
I am so so happy with their performance. Every year they get better as the older students help the new ones and honestly as I learn how to choreograph for such a unique (and completely lovely) group of Irish dancers.

GNU Mathprog is an algebraic modeling language for describing mathematical programming models. The language is a subset of AMPL, the most popular language used for describing such models. One advantage of this languages is the similarity of its syntax with the mathematical notation used to describe optimization problems. In this talk we describe the use of Scala in the construction of an embedded DSL to work with Mathprog models. At construction time, the DSL works as an alternative way to build the AST representing the model, taking advantage of the Scala compiler to check the validity of most expressions. The AST can be created also by parsing Mathprog model files. Once an AST is obtained, the DSL allows to manipulate and transform the AST to extract data or create new models. We show how the use of type classes and implicit conversion prioritization gives us a systematic way to define operators, valid combinations of parameters and result types, and conversions between expressions. At the end, we explore possible applications of the DSL to stochastic programming models.

Ireland fares badly in international comparisons of plurilingualism – an individual’s ability to speak at least two languages in addition to her mother tongue. This remains so even though high immigration means Ireland now scores much better in comparative multilingualism – the presence of many spoken languages in a given territory ... Some 200 languages are spoken here and about 12 per cent of school students are born abroad....
