In 1664, after the English conquered New Netherland, King Charles II granted the former Dutch territories as a proprietary colony to his brother James, Duke of York, who later became King James II. The Duke divided the colony into New York and New Jersey, reserving New York for himself as the “Duke’s province” and giving New Jersey to his friends John, Lord Berkeley, and Sir George Carteret. Berkeley and Carteret eventually sold their shares to other investors, called proprietors, resulting in the division in 1676 of the colony into East and West Jersey.
From the outset of the grant from the Duke of York to Berkeley and Carteret, jurisdictional disputes arose between New York and New Jersey. Before he learned about the gift to Berkeley and Carteret, Governor Richard Nicolls of New York made land grants in New Jersey to some New Englanders, causing a confusion of land titles that lasted into the eighteenth century. There was also a question of whether the grant to Berkeley and Carteret included the right to govern, which led to the arrest of Governor Philip Carteret of East Jersey and John Fenwick of Salem by a later New York governor, Sir Edmund Andros.
During this period the population of New Jersey diversified. Besides Europeans, there were Native–Americans, who were the original settlers, and African–Americans, who first were brought into the colony by the Dutch. To this racial diversity was added ethnic and religious diversity. In addition to the Dutch, Swedish, and Finnish, there were English and Scottish settlers. Among the religious denominations there were the Dutch Reformed, Puritans, Quakers, and Anglicans. In East Jersey resentment accompanied the passing of power from the English Puritans in Newark and Elizabeth to the Scottish Presbyterians in Perth Amboy. In West Jersey, the Quakers resented the growing influence of the Anglicans. Finally, the proprietors of both East and West Jersey gave up their efforts to govern this disorderly, heterogeneous society. In 1702, they petitioned the crown to take over the colony, while retaining their rights to the land. This brought to an end the period of the two New Jerseys.

Cotton Mather - Samples From The Diary of Cotton Mather 1681, Calling Upon God for Assistance
(b. Feb. 12, 1663, Boston, Massachusetts Bay Colony [U.S.]—d. Feb. 13, 1728, Boston), "American Congregational minister and author, supporter of the old order of the ruling clergy, who became the most celebrated of all New England Puritans. He combined a [supposedly -WC] mystical strain (he believed in the existence of witchcraft) with a modern scientific interest (he supported smallpox inoculation).
The son of Increase Mather and the grandson of John Cotton and Richard Mather, Cotton Mather lived all his life in Boston. He entered Harvard at the age of 12, easily passing entrance requirements to read and write Latin and to "decline the Greek nouns and verbs." He devoted himself unremittingly to study and prayer. At 18 he received his M.A. degree from the hands of his father, who was president of the college. He preached his first sermon in his father's church in August 1680 and in October another from his grandfather John Cotton's pulpit. He was formally ordained in 1685 and became his father's colleague.
He devoted his life to praying, preaching, writing, and publishing and still followed his main purpose in life of doing good. His book, Bonifacius, or Essays to Do Good (1710), instructs others in humanitarian acts, some ideas being far ahead of his time: the schoolmaster to reward instead of punish his students, the physician to study the state of mind of his patient as a probable cause of illness. He established societies for community projects.
He joined his father in cautioning judges against the use of "spectre evidence" (testimony of a victim of witchcraft that he had been attacked by a spectre bearing the appearance of someone he knew) in the witchcraft trials and in working for the ouster of Sir Edmund Andros as governor of Massachusetts. He was also a leader in the fight for inoculation against smallpox, incurring popular disapproval. When Cotton inoculated his own son, who almost died from it, the whole community was wrathful, and a bomb was thrown through his chamber window. Satan seemed on the side of his enemies; various members of his family became ill, and some died. Worst of all, his son Increase was arrested for rioting.
Mather's interest in science and particularly in various American phenomena—published in his Curiosa Americana (1712-24)—won him membership in the Royal Society of London. His account of the inoculation episode was published in the society's transactions. He corresponded extensively with notable scientists, such as Robert Boyle. His Christian Philosopher (1721) recognizes God in the wonders of the earth and the universe beyond; it is both philosophical and scientific and, ironically, anticipates 18th-century Deism, despite his clinging to the old order.
Cotton Mather wrote and published more than 400 works. His magnum opus was Magnalia Christi Americana (1702) [BOT], an ecclesiastical history of America from the founding of New England to his own time. His Manuductio ad Ministerium (1726) was a handbook of advice for young graduates to the ministry: on doing good, on college love affairs, on poetry and music, and on style. His ambitious 20-year work on biblical learning was interrupted by his death."

Hello everyone and welcome back to another top 5!!
So for todays video it is going to be a christmas special were going to be talking about 5 places Christmas was banned from!
For number 5 we have the United States and yes its America When Puritans arrived in America in 1620 they were against Christmas. They called the holiday the “Foolstide” and banned their followers from celebrating it until 18th century. The only holiday they accepted was the Sabbath. When the governor of the Massachusetts colony, Sir Edmund Andros tried to sponsor Christian Day services, he was flanked by redcoats. The opposition continued even past 1800s.
Recently, news spread that a school in Texas banned Santa and a school in California banned Christmas Trees and poinsettias, stipulating they were too religious.
For number 4 we have Albania In 1967, a ban on religious activity was official. The ban was not lifted until 1991 when the communist state fell. Christians were able to attend Christmas service for the first time In 23 years in December of 1990.
On to number 3 we have Saudi Arabia If you are visiting Saudi Arabia or working as a teacher in the country, do not expect any holidays on Christmas. In fact Christmas cards and Christmas trees are banned from the country. The country follows strict Islamic mores, which means that the rulers consider themselves key guardians of faith.
For number 2 we have England Oliver Cromwell is a famous British politician. From 1649 to 1653, Parliament was in charge of England. Cromwell took charge effectively in 1653. Puritan born, Cromwell banned Christmas. He wanted people to think about Jesus and not eat and drink too much.
Now for number 1 we have North Korea There are no holidays in North Korea, except for the ones which celebrate the birthdays of its leaders (e.g. the late Kim Jong-il). They even claimed that South Korea’s attempt in placing Christmas Lights on display was an act of psychological warfare.
Well thanks so much for watching this christmas special there was lots more guys but if you want to know if your country banned christmas just type a search on google and I am sure something will pop up! But hopefully you guys enjoyed if you did please do rate comment and subscribe and stay tuned for more videos!!

Alderney (/ˈɔːldərni/; French: Aurigny [oʁiɲi]; Auregnais: Aoeur'gny) is the most northerly of the Channel Islands. It is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a British Crown dependency. It is 3 miles (4.8 km) long and 1.5 miles (2.4 km) wide. The area is 3 square miles (7.8 km2), making it the third-largest island of the Channel Islands, and the second largest in the Bailiwick. It is around 10 miles (16 km) to the west of La Hague on the Cotentin Peninsula, Normandy, in France, 20 miles (32 km) to the north-east of Guernsey and 60 miles (97 km) from the south coast of Great Britain. It is the closest of the Channel Islands to both France and the United Kingdom. It is separated from Cap de la Hague by the dangerous Alderney Race (French: Raz Blanchard).
As of April 2013, the island has a population of 1,903 people and they are traditionally nicknamed vaques after the cows, or else lapins after the many rabbits seen in the island. Formally, they are known as Ridunians, from the Latin Riduna.

King Philip's War, sometimes called the First Indian War, Metacom's War, Metacomet's War, or Metacom's Rebellion, was an armed conflict between Native American inhabitants of present-day New England and English colonists and their Native American allies in 1675–78. The war is named for the main leader of the Native American side, Metacomet, who had adopted the English name "King Philip" in honor of the previously-friendly relations between his father and the original Mayflower Pilgrims. The war continued in the most northern reaches of New England until the signing of the Treaty of Casco Bay in April 1678.
Metacom was the second son of Wampanoag chief Massasoit, who had coexisted peacefully with the Pilgrims. Metacom succeeded his father in 1662 and reacted against the European settlers' continued encroaching onto Wampanoag lands. At Taunton in 1671, he was humiliated when colonists forced him to sign a new peace agreement that included the surrender of Indian guns. When officials in Plymouth Colony hanged three Wampanoags in 1675 for the murder of a Christianized Indian, Metacom's alliance launched a united assault on colonial towns throughout the region. Metacom's forces enjoyed initial victories in the first year, but then the Native American alliance began to unravel. By the end of the conflict, the Wampanoags and their Narragansett allies were almost completely destroyed. Metacom anticipated their defeat and returned to his ancestral home at Mt. Hope, where he was killed while walking in the forest.

All 56 American state, D.C. and territory quarters with their images explained.
Anyone who has handled coins of the United States in recent years has most likely noticed the wide variety of designs on the 25 cent pieces or quarters. The quarter dollar coin has been in use with various designs since 1796. It was between 1932 and 1998, that the design of the quarter included a portrait of George Washington on the obverse side and a bald eagle, the national bird, on the reverse side. The eagle perched on a bundle of arrows with olive branches below. In 1997, Congress issued the United States Commemorative Coin Program Act, which was signed into law by then President Bill Clinton on December 1, 1997, which established the 50 state quarter program. Beginning in 1999, the long familiar eagle design was replaced with a design emblematic of each of the 50 states. Five coins were issued each year between 1999 and 2008, or one every 10 weeks. The coins were issued in the order that the states ratified the Constitution. George Washington’s portrait on the observe side was also slightly redesigned. The United States of America scrolls above his head, while the words Quarter Dollar are displayed beneath. The word Liberty appears to the left of Washington and the national motto of “In God We Trust,” adopted in 1956, appears to the right. The Mint mark for each coin appears below this, an S for the San Francisco Mint, a D for Denver Mint, and a P for the Philadelphia Mint. The great majority of coins in circulation are from the Denver and Philadelphia mints, while coins from the San Francisco Mint are mostly proof coins produced for collectors. The reverse side’s central design is different for each quarter, but always displays the states name across the top with the year that the state ratified the Constitution directly below that. The Latin phrase of “E Pluribus Unum,” in use since 1776, appears at the bottom, which translates to “Out of Many One.” Above this is the year that the coin was minted.
After the conclusion of the 50 state quarters in 2008, six additional new quarters were issued the following year in 2009 for the federal District of Columbia and the five territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Divers explore an underwater cave system on Andros Island in the Bahamas. Offshore flooded caves, called ocean blue holes, are extensions of the sea, subject to the same heavy tides and host to many of the same species found in the surrounding waters. The blue holes of the Bahamas yield a scientific trove that may even shed light on life beyond Earth. Different from many, it is an opening in the Andros wall, a spot where the wall has collapsed into a cavern/cave system. This huge system can be approached on many levels. Two primary openings at 60 feet lead into one cavern. Another tunnel leads into a massive room with the ceiling at 140 feet and the floor at 320 feet. For very advanced or professional divers, the Level III dive enters a fracture in the wall at 190 feet, well above the system's maximum depth, and leads into the most complex portion of the system.

‘Bight’ follows two fly fishing guides from upstate New York as they travel to South Andros Island, Bahamas. We see the friendships they develop with the local guides as they set out to target what is considered some of the best bone fishing in the world. Not only does the film capture the beauty of the region, but we also discover that lifetime friendships are just as important as the fish they are chasing.
