Charles (Chip) Kidd (born September 12, 1964) is an American graphic designer, best known for his innovative book covers. Based in New York city, Kidd has become one of the most famous book cover designers to date.
Born in Shillington, Berks Country, Kidd grew up being fascinated and heavily inspired by American popular culture. Comic books were his gateway into graphic design, with Batman and Superman populating some of his earliest childhood memories. Kidd attended Pennsylvania State University, where he graduated in 1986 with a degree in graphic design.
Throughout his career, Kidd has been a graphic designer, book designer, editor, author, lecturer and musician. According to Graphic Design: American Two, he has been credited with “helping to spawn a revolution in the art of America book packaging in the last ten years.” One the most consistent characteristics of Kidd’s revolutionary style is the fact that his book covers don’t carry one signature look, as he states: “A signature look is crippling… [because] the simplest and effective solutions aren’t dictated by style.”
Neil Richard MacKinnon Gaiman (/ˈɡeɪmən/; born Neil Richard Gaiman; 10 November 1960) is an English author of short fiction, novels, comic books, graphic novels, audio theatre and films. His notable works include the comic book series The Sandman and novels Stardust, American Gods, Coraline, and The Graveyard Book. He has won numerous awards, including the Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker awards, as well as the Newbery and Carnegie medals. He is the first author to win both the Newbery and the Carnegie medals for the same work, The Graveyard Book (2008). In 2013, The Ocean at the End of the Lane was voted Book of the Year in the British National Book Awards.

In an exclusive interview at AGI Open 2013, Chip Kidd spoke about designing novel covers and the comic book side of his work. According to Time Out New York, "The history of book design can be split into two eras: before graphic designer Chip Kidd and after". In this exclusive interview at the 2013 AGI Open Conference in London, Kidd gave insight into the many book jackets he has designed as well as the various comic book projects he has worked on. From a young age Kidd knew that designing book covers could have a profound and positive influence on a designer's career, "book covers are very important. If your design gets approved your name goes on it", he says. Even though it's not always an easy and smooth process, after 27 years Kidd still loves designing book covers as each provides a ...

Intervista a Chip Kidd, graphic designer e editore statunitense ospite del master in Editoria dell'università di Verona.
Chip Kidd is a book designer and author. His most recent book is Only What's Necessary: Charles M. Schulz and the Art of Peanuts. “The curious thing about doing a book cover is that you're creating a piece of art, but it is in service to a greater piece of art that is dictating what you're going to do. I may think I've come up with the greatest design in the world, but if the author doesn't like it, they win. And I have to start over.” Thanks to The Standard Hotels, MailChimp, Mack Weldon, Prudential, The Great Courses Plus, and "The Message" for sponsoring this week's episode.
