The number of refugees, mainly Syrian Kurds, to have escaped to Turkey in last few days is being pegged at 100,000, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD). Syrian refugee crisis, that worsened during three-years of civil war, has only intensified recently with the Islamic State launching a sudden and murderous offensive across the war-torn country. According to the UN refugee agency's estimates, some 3 million Syrians have fled to neighbouring countries, like Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. Out of those, over 8 lakh refugees have crossed into Turkey, according to the UN figures released on August 29. Selon les estimations de l'ONU réfugiés agence, quelque 3 millions de Syriens ont fui vers les pays voisins, comme le Liban, la Jordanie et la Turquie. Turkey closes most of its border crossings with Syria after the arrival of at least 130,000 Kurd refugees, as Islamic State militants approach a key Syrian town.
--With the murderous onslaught of the Islamic State pushing the conflict close to Turkish border in Syria, the last couple of days have witnessed an unabated stream of refugees crossing into Turkey.

The number of refugees, mainly Syrian Kurds, to have escaped to Turkey in last few days is being pegged at 100,000, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).

Syrian refugee crisis, that worsened during three-years of civil war, has only intensified recently with the Islamic State launching a sudden and murderous offensive across the war-torn country.

According to the UN refugee agency\'s estimates, some 3 million Syrians have fled to neighbouring countries, like Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. Out of those, over 8 lakh refugees have crossed into Turkey, according to the UN figures released on August 29.

Adding to it one lakh refugees more, the total number of Syrian refugees in Turkey is over 900, 000.

Crise des réfugiés syriens, qui s\'est aggravée au cours des trois années de guerre civile, a seulement récemment intensifiée avec l\'État islamique lançant une offensive soudaine et meurtrière à travers le pays déchiré par la guerre. 

Selon les estimations de l\'ONU réfugiés agence, quelque 3 millions de Syriens ont fui vers les pays voisins, comme le Liban, la Jordanie et la Turquie. Sur ceux-ci, plus de 8 lakh réfugiés ont traversé la frontière vers la Turquie, selon les chiffres de l\'ONU publié le 29 Août. 

Ajoutant un lakh réfugiés plus, le nombre total de réfugiés syriens en Turquie est de plus de 900, 000.

In the space of a few short days, Afghan presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah went from confident frontrunner to aggrieved underdog as his rival, Ashraf Ghani, took a surprise lead. Abdullah promptly announced that he rejected the preliminary election results and demanded the resignation of the head of the election commission, Zia-ul-Haq Amarkhail, amid accusations of ballot tampering.

Peaceful street protests in support of Abdullah sprung up across central Kabul, echoing the protests of the Arab Spring. When Amarkhail resigned after Abdullah\'s team released audio tapes of him allegedly discussing large-scale electoral fraud, Abdullah\'s campaign seemed revitalized, culminating in a large Friday demonstration in the center of Kabul during which Abdullah personally addressed his supporters.

While the peaceful nature of the demonstrations illustrate how far Afghanistan has come since 2001, the political deadlock is now edging the country toward crisis, with no sense of how or when the high-stakes political drama will end.
