Shared parenting refers to a collaborative arrangement in child custody or divorce determinations in which the care of the children is equal or substantially shared between the biological parents.

It is typically a legal mechanism applied in the divorce or unmarried parent context; in contrast, a Shared Earning/Shared Parenting Marriage is a marriage where the partners choose at the outset of the marriage (and prior to conceiving children) to share the work of childraising, earning money, house chores and recreation time in nearly equal fashion across all four domains.

Shared parenting arrangements are viewed as encouraging children to know both parents are actively involved and share responsibility in their upbringing.

Shared parenting has also been referred to as "collaborative parenting", "balanced parenting" or "equal shared parenting", and can also apply after the separation of adoptive or other non-biological parents. "Equally shared parenting" refers more commonly to childraising, breadwinning, housework and recreation time that are equally shared between two parents in an intact family.

Allan Schore (born February 20, 1943) is a leading researcher in the field of neuropsychology, whose contributions have influenced the fields of affective neuroscience, neuropsychiatry, trauma theory, developmental psychology, attachment theory, pediatrics, infant mental health, psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, and behavioral biology.

Schore is on the clinical faculty of the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences, UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, and at the UCLA Center for Culture, Brain, and Development. He is author of the seminal volume Affect Regulation and the Origin of the Self, now in its 11th printing, and two recent books Affect Dysregulation and Disorders of the Self and Affect Regulation and the Repair of the Self, as well as numerous articles and chapters. Schore is Editor of the acclaimed Norton Series on Interpersonal Neurobiology, and a reviewer or on the editorial staff of 27 journals.

Schore's activities as a clinician-scientist span from his theoretical work on the enduring effect of early trauma on brain development, to neuroimaging research on the neurobiology of attachment and studies of borderline personality disorder, to his biological studies of relational trauma in wild elephants, and to his practice of psychotherapy over the last 4 decades. He leads Study Groups in Developmental Affective Neuroscience & Clinical Practice in Los Angeles, Berkeley, Portland, Seattle, Boulder, Austin and Albuquerque; lectures internationally; and is a member of the Commission on Children at Risk for the Report on Children and Civil Society, "Hardwired to Connect".

Brian Arthur Roland Binley (born 1 April 1942) is a British Conservative politician, and the Member of Parliament for Northampton South.

Educated at Finedon Mulso Secondary Modern School on Wellingborough Road, Finedon (now a junior school), Brian Binley joined the Conservative Party in 1959. He was an organiser with the National Young Conservatives from 1965 to 1968. He is the Chairman of Wellingborough based BCC Marketing Services Ltd, the company he founded from 1988 to 2001, when it was liquidated by the company that had bought it in late 2001.

Binley was the parliamentary agent for the Wyre Forest Conservative Association during the 1997 General election campaign. He was elected to Northamptonshire County Council in 1997, where he was a Cabinet Member. He was selected to contest the Labour-held parliamentary marginal seat of Northampton South, and defeated the sitting Labour MP Tony Clarke at the 2005 general election by over 4,000 votes. Binley made his maiden speech on 25 May 2005.

Timothy Paul Loughton (born 30 May 1962) is a British Conservative Party politician, and has been Member of Parliament (MP) for East Worthing and Shoreham since the 1997 general election. Loughton is currently Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families.

Born in the south coast town of Eastbourne in East Sussex, Loughton was educated at Priory School, a state comprehensive school in Lewes in East Sussex, followed by the University of Warwick (where he was secretary of the University of Warwick Conservative Association), gaining a First Class BA in Classical Civilisation in 1983. This was followed by Clare College at the University of Cambridge, where he researched Mesopotamian Archaeology from 1983-4.

Loughton followed a career in the City of London as a fund manager from 1984 for Fleming Private Asset Management, becoming Director from 1992-2000.

Loughton's first attempt at election to the House of Commons in the 1992 general election, when he stood against David Blunkett in the Sheffield Brightside constituency. Although unsuccessful, he was chosen in 1995 by the local party board as a candidate for his current constituency, then newly formed.

Robert Frederick Zenon "Bob" Geldof, KBE, (born 5 October 1951) is an Irish singer, songwriter, author, occasional actor and political activist. He rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Irish rock band The Boomtown Rats in the late 1970s and early 1980s alongside the punk rock movement. The band had hits with his compositions "Rat Trap" and "I Don't Like Mondays". He co-wrote "Do They Know It's Christmas?", one of the best-selling singles of all time. He starred as Pink in Pink Floyd's 1982 film Pink Floyd The Wall.

Geldof is widely recognised for his activism, especially anti-poverty efforts concerning Africa. In 1984 he and Midge Ure founded the charity supergroup Band Aid to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. They went on to organise the charity super-concert Live Aid the following year and the Live 8 concerts in 2005. Geldof currently serves as an adviser to the ONE Campaign, founded by fellow Irish humanitarian Bono. A single father, Geldof has also been outspoken for the fathers' rights movement. Geldof has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, was granted an honorary knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II, and is a recipient of the Man of Peace title which recognises individuals who have made "an outstanding contribution to international social justice and peace", among numerous other awards and nominations.
