Training programs

The Library offers a number of programs throughout the year to assist students in developing research skills and to use the full range of information resources available at Victoria University Library. The programs range from one-hour information sessions to two-hours hands-on workshops.

Drop-in sessions

Pop up Library for Business students

College of Business Librarians Lou and John can help with finding information using the Library catalogue, databases, e-journals, e-books and online newspaper articles. They can also help with specialist business research including financial tracking, finding Company Reports, looking up Industry Reports, finding information for SWOT analysis.

Drop-in sessions for Engineering research skills

College of Engineering Librarians Gail or Dana is available to help engineering students with researching and finding information for assignments by: using the Library website and catalogue; identifying and using the best database to find relevant journal articles and books; improving referencing skills.

There will be two drop-in sessions each week for engineering research skills starting on Tuesday 9 September until Friday 3 October. There will then be one session per week – Friday 10 October and Tuesday 14 October.

Tuesdays 2pm – 3pm (From Tuesday 9 September, no session on Tuesday 7 October)
Fridays 1pm – 2pm (From Friday 12 September, no session on Friday 17 October)

All sessions are in Footscray Park campus, Building D, Room D441.

Help from College Librarians at Werribee Library

A librarian from either the College of Education, College of Engineering and Science, College of Health and Biomedicine or VET College is available to assist students with finding information (database searching, accessing articles), referencing and other research skills.

Drop-in sessions for Health & Biomedicine in the City

College of Health & Biomedicine Librarians (Ben or Ishbel) are available to assist health and biomedicine students and staff with searching and finding information for assignments and research. Librarians can help with using the Library website and catalogue; identifying and using databases and online sources to find relevant journal articles and books; and improving referencing skills.

Tuesdays, 9am – 12pm, City Flinders Campus Library, Level 15.

Assignment help

Finding information (College of Arts)

This session is for students enrolled in College of Arts units or for any student interested in accessing Library resources in the disciplines of Arts and Social Sciences.

This session will cover:

  • how to search the Library for books, e-books
  • how to search for journal articles
  • introduction to Library databases in the Arts and Social Sciences.

Sessions are available from 7 August - 8 October at Footscray Park campus.

Researcher training

Endnote: Beginners

An introductory session for those who need to organise and manage information using bibliographic software. Covers the basics of building an Endnote library and creating bibliographies.

Sessions are available from 29 July - 17 October at Footscray Park, Footscray Nicholson, City Flinders, Werribee & St Albans campuses.

Library Research Overview

This session is an introductory session for new Higher Degree Research students and staff. It provides an overview of library services including key contacts and tools to locate journal articles, theses, books and other resources.
