”An ornament is something which repeats itself endlessly. In a way you can say life is like that. It’s an eternal appearance of exactly the same things.” The painter, poet, filmmaker and sculptor Per Kirkeby (b. 1938) is one of the most acclaimed Danish artists today. With a masters in arctic geology from 1964, Kirkeby’s interest in geology and nature in general, has played a crucial role in his artistic expressions. In this interview Kirkeby talks about how the arrogance of age means that you don’t have to fulfil any expectations any more, not your own, and not other peoples expectations: “You don't have to give a toss.” Kirkeby says. Once you let go of your own expectations, it becomes possible to exceed them. You achieve complete artistic freedom.
“My painting isn’t good until it goes under.” Kirkeby explains. The original intention, the smart and clever beginning, is not enough to make a painting. Beauty is not enough. There must be something more, a structure. You must commit yourself, and risk everything, sacrifice the good, and go through a process of recognition, until something better is created, built upon the ruins of the original idea: “The right structure slowly emerges from the picture.”
Per Kirkebys work has been shown at art exhibitions worldwide and are represented in many public collections such as Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Tate Gallery, Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA and Centre Pompidou. Kirkeby has been teaching as a professor at the Art Academy in Karlsruhe (1978–89) and Frankfurter Städelschule (1989–2000).

El artista danés Per Kirkeby (Copenhague, 1938) una de las personalidades más rotundas y fascinantes de la actual escena europea. De formación original como geólogo y artista forjado en curiosidades múltiples, con incursiones que van desde la escritura al cine y una trayectoria que recorre las vanguardias radicales europeas de los sesenta y setenta, Kirkeby ha condensado finalmente lo esencial de su atención, durante toda esta última década, en los campos de la pintura y la escultura. La aproximación que Kirkeby establece sobre la naturaleza -esa visión íntima y abismal de lo real que siempre permanece en su obra como incitación germinal y confrontación última- toma en la obra una formulación turbadora, desconcertante, como de energía inerte, transparencia opaca, asentada turbulencia. Monotyping is a type of printmaking made by drawing or painting on a smooth, non-absorbent surface. The surface, or matrix, was historically a copper etching plate, but in contemporary work it can vary from zinc or glass to acrylic glass. The image is then transferred onto a sheet of paper by pressing the two together, usually using a printing-press.
Niels Borch Jensen Editions was established in Copenhagen in 1979 with the aim of bringing emerging and established contemporary artists to work seriously with print media by producing projects that stand as significant, self-contained works of art. The aim has been to find ways of bringing the essential character of the artist’s work into their print projects. The artist and the printer mutually challenge each other, and occasionally come up with innovative or unorthodox approaches to the medium.

Per Kirkeby
Per Kirkeby (born 1 September 1938, in Copenhagen) is a Danish painter, poet, film maker and sculptor.
Biography
Per Kirkeby is one of the most internationally acclaimed Danish artists today. By the time he completed a masters education in arctic geology at the University of Copenhagen in 1964, he was already part of the important experimental art school “eks-skolen” and worked primarily as a painter, sculptor, writer and a lithographic artist which he has pursued ever since. Kirkeby’s interest in geology and nature in general still plays a crucial role in his artistic expressions, these themes being therefore very characteristic in the works of the artist. Kirkeby’s works have been shown at many art exhibitions worldwide and are represented in many public collections such as Tate Gallery, London; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York, Centre Pompidou, Paris. Kirkeby has been teaching as a professor at the Art Academy in Karlsruhe (1978–89) and Frankfurter Städelschule (1989–2000).

”An ornament is something which repeats itself endlessly. In a way you can say life is like that. It’s an eternal appearance of exactly the same things.” The painter, poet, filmmaker and sculptor Per Kirkeby (b. 1938) is one of the most acclaimed Danish artists today. With a masters in arctic geology from 1964, Kirkeby’s interest in geology and nature in general, has played a crucial role in his artistic expressions. In this interview Kirkeby talks about how the arrogance of age means that you don’t have to fulfil any expectations any more, not your own, and not other peoples expectations: “You don't have to give a toss.” Kirkeby says. Once you let go of your own expectations, it becomes possible to exceed them. You achieve complete artistic freedom.
“My painting isn’t good until it goes under.” Kirkeby explains. The original intention, the smart and clever beginning, is not enough to make a painting. Beauty is not enough. There must be something more, a structure. You must commit yourself, and risk everything, sacrifice the good, and go through a process of recognition, until something better is created, built upon the ruins of the original idea: “The right structure slowly emerges from the picture.”
Per Kirkebys work has been shown at art exhibitions worldwide and are represented in many public collections such as Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Tate Gallery, Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA and Centre Pompidou. Kirkeby has been teaching as a professor at the Art Academy in Karlsruhe (1978–89) and Frankfurter Städelschule (1989–2000).

Monotyping is a type of printmaking made by drawing or painting on a smooth, non-absorbent surface. The surface, or matrix, was historically a copper etching plate, but in contemporary work it can vary from zinc or glass to acrylic glass. The image is then transferred onto a sheet of paper by pressing the two together, usually using a printing-press.
Niels Borch Jensen Editions was established in Copenhagen in 1979 with the aim of bringing emerging and established contemporary artists to work seriously with print media by producing projects that stand as significant, self-contained works of art. The aim has been to find ways of bringing the essential character of the artist’s work into their print projects. The artist and the printer mutually challenge each other, and occasionally come up with innovative or unorthodox approaches to the medium.

Data compiled from BSE and NSE showed 20.73 per cent of the issue size of 13.23 crore shares were subscribed to by 11 am IST on Tuesday. Retail investors have so far bid for 1.88 crore shares, which was 33.39 per cent of the quota limit of 5.71 crore shares. The quota for non-institutional investors was subscribed to 5.61 per cent, while that of QIBs 6.07 per cent....

[Monitor] Kenya has written a law that puts a cap on lending rates at 4 per cent above the Central Bank Rate (CBR), among other clauses. This means that banks will not be allowed to lend at interest rates above the CBR+4 per cent. For example, the current CBR in Kenya is 10.5 per cent.
