Darbari Kanada, or simply Raga Darbari, (pronounced darbāri kānada), is a raga in the Kanada family, which is thought to have originated in Carnatic music and brought into North Indian music by Miyan Tansen, the legendary 16th-century composer in emperor Akbar's court. This tradition is reflected in the name itself; Darbar is the Persian derived word in Hindi meaning "court." As the most familiar raga in the Kanada family, it may sometimes also be called Shuddha Kanada or pure Kanada. It belongs to the Asavari thaat.
It is also sometimes written as Durbari and Durbarikanada.
Darbari is a grave raga, played deep into the night, considered to be one of the more difficult to master, and with the potential for profound emotional impact.
The ascension of aroha is in the lower and middle octaves. In the avroha the note Ga (gandhar) komal is used in a weak manner and a slow vibrato (andolan) on this note. The association of the notes Ni and Pa sounds pleasing. Its Vadi swar is Re and Samavadi is Pa.
Raga Darbari may refer to:

Roshan Ara Begum (1917 - 6 December 1982) was a Hindustani classical and Pakistani classical vocalist. In Pakistan she is revered as Mallika-e-Mauseeqi (Queen of Music). As the daughter of Ustad Abdul Haqq Khan, Roshan Ara linked through her cousin Ustad Abdul Karim Khan to Kirana gharana.
Born in Calcutta in or around 1917, Roshan Ara Begum visited Lahore during her teens to participate in musical soirées held at the residences of affluent citizens of Chun Peer in Mohalla Peer Gillaanian at Mochi Gate, Lahore, British India (now in Pakistan).
During her occasional visits to the city she also broadcast songs from the then All India Radio station, and her name was announced as Bombaywali Roshan Ara Begum. She had acquired this popular nomenclature because she shifted to Mumbai, then known as Bombay, in the late 1930s to live near Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, from whom she took lessons in Hindustani classical music for fifteen years.
Nikhil Ranjan Banerjee (Bengali: নিখিল রঞ্জন ব্যানার্জী) (14 October 1931 – 27 January 1986) was an eminent Indian classical sitarist of the Maihar Gharana. A student of the legendary Baba Allauddin Khan, Pandit Nikhil Banerjee was known for his technical virtuosity and clinical execution. Along with Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Vilayat Khan, he emerged as one of the leading exponents of the Sitar and is regarded as a legend of Indian classical music. He was a recipient of the Indian civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan.
Nikhil Banerjee was born on October 14, 1931 in Calcutta. His father, Jitendranath Banerjee, was an amateur sitarist and Banerjee was fascinated by his father's playing. Although he wanted to try his hand at an instrument as early as the age of four, he was discouraged by his father and grandfather. At the age of five, however, they relented and he acquired a small sitar, initially learning under his father. Banerjee grew into a child prodigy. He won an all-India sitar competition and became the youngest musician employed by All India Radio at the age of nine. Jitendranath approached Mushtaq Ali Khan to take Nikhil as a disciple, but only learned from this master for a few short weeks. Instead Birendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury, the zamindar of Gouripur in present-day Bangladesh, became responsible for much of his early training. He also had considerable training under Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra, the noted sarod player, before he went under the discipleship of Ustd. Allauddin Khan.

Raag Darbari is one the most beautiful Raags that you will find in classical music .... This was recorded in my studio 2 years ago. Rahat Ali played the flute and did the classical alaap on this ..... He played the flute solo without any music or tempo .... the feeling and the passion that I found in this piece he played is just amazing and not only that he did the classical vocals on this as well which i think is the most difficult to sing and very few people from my country can sing it with so much passion and accuracy .... Credits : Alaap and Flutes by Rahat Ali .. Recorded using Cubase 5 and neuman TLM 103 MIC ..... Additional Arrangement on Cubase 5 using RMX and Trilogy modules ...... Music Recorded and Mixed by Athar Saeed .... i hope all of you will enjoy

Does your music today directly or indirectly reflect some of those influences? 'Yes, of course! To be very frank, yes, I'm very much influenced by a few musicians. One thing my teacher Allauddin Khansahib used to say, he being a very conservative musician, but he always used to say, "Collect anything, good thing, from any music from anywhere in the world!" Allauddin Khansahib being such a strict and conservative type, every night I can very well remember, every night from 9 till 11 o'clock. All-India Radio used to broadcast Western classical music. Ridin' in a motorcade
Sippin' on a lemonade
And waving at his fans

Wavin' at the Shrine parade
Eatin' toast and marmalade
And getting sticky hands
Good old General Hand Grenade
