Dean Martin
Dean Martin (de nombre real Dino Paul Crocetti) nació el 7 de junio de 1917 en la localidad de Steubenville, Ohio (Estados Unidos).
Su familia procedía de Italia, siendo su padre un barbero de nombre Gateano, y su madre Angella, una mujer dedicada a sus labores domésticas.
Poco amante de los estudios, Dino abandonó el colegio y se propuso ganarse la vida en lo que fuese, trabajando desde su adolescencia en diferentes oficios como peón, gasolinero, croupier e incluso boxeador, peleando con bastante éxito con el nombre de Kid Crocetti.
Martin se fue introduciendo poco a poco en los nightclubs como cantante, actuando junto a la orquesta de Ernie McKay con el nombre artístico de Dino Martini.
En una de sus actuaciones, que compaginaban música y humor, coincidió con un cómico que intentaba también abrirse camino en el mundo del espectáculo, su nombre era Jerry Lewis.
Los dos se hicieron muy amigos, lo que les llevó a actuar como pareja en el año 1946 en el club Atlantic City, consiguiendo con su química despertar el entusiasmo entre el público asistente.
Poco después debutaron en la radio y en 1949 firmaron con los estudios Paramount para protagonizar su primera película, "My Friend Irma" (1949), un título dirigido por George Marshall.
“My friend Irma” fue el inicio de una fructífera colaboración que produjo comedias como "Vaya Par De Marinos" (1951) de Hal Walker, "Qué Par De Golfantes" (1953) de Norman Taurog, "Viviendo Su Vida" (1954) de Taurog, "Artistas y Modelos" (1955) de Frank Tashlin, "Un Fresco En Apuros" (1955) de Taurog, "Juntos Ante El Peligro" (1956), también dirigidos por Norman Taurog, o "Loco Por Anita" (1956), película de Tashlin que contaba con la presencia de la sueca Anita Ekberg.
La larga amistad terminó después del rodaje de "Loco Por Anita". La pareja rompió su exitosa colaboración artística para iniciar carreras en solitario.
Mientras Jerry siguió protagonizando comedias, Dino diversificó mucho más sus papeles, demostrando un sorprendente talento para la interpretación dramática.
Además continuó grabando discos y consiguiendo éxito con canciones clásicas como "Volare" o "Everybody Loves Somebody".
En el aspecto sentimental, antes de la llegada de los 60, Martin se había casado ya en dos ocasiones. La primera con Betty MacDonald en 1940, de quien se divorció en 1949 en una relación con alcoholismo de Betty e infidelidades de Dean; y la segunda en 1949 con Jane Biegger, su relación más duradera con la que estuvo hasta el año 1973.
A partir de los años 50 Dean Martin formó parte de un grupo de actores liderado por Frank Sinatra al que denominaban "rat pack", amantes de la juerga y la buena vida y con contactos muy estrechos con el mundo de la mafia.
En el cine y ya sin la compañía de Lewis, Martin destacó en títulos como "El Baile De Los Malditos" (1957) de Edward Dmytryk, "Río Bravo" (1959), western de Howard Hawks, "La Cuadrilla De Los Once" (1960) de Lewis Milestone, "Cuatro Tíos De Texas" (1963) de Robert Aldrich, "Bésame, Tonto" (1964) de Billy Wilder, o "Los Cuatro Hijos De Katie Elder" (1965) de Henry Hathaway.
Además participó como protagonista principal en una serie de películas estilo James Bond encarnando al agente especial Matt Helm.
En 1973 contrajo matrimonio con su última esposa, Catherine Hawn, pero tampoco pudo lograr la estabilidad emocional deseable, rompiendo el enlace tres años después de la boda.
Del cine se retiró en la primera mitad de los años 80 tras participar en "Los locos del Cannonball" (1981) y "Los locos del cannonball " (1984), ambos títulos dirigidos por Hal Needham.
El 25 de diciembre de 1995 Dean Martin falleció a causa de problemas respiratorios. Tenía 78 años.
Dino tuvo ocho hijos. Cuatro con Betty McDonald: Stephen (nacido el año 1942), Claudia (1944), Barbara (1945) y Dina (1948). Tres con Jeanne: Dean Paul (1951), miembro del grupo pop Dino, Desy & Billy que falleció cuando pilotaba en un accidente aéreo, Ricci James (1953) y Gina (1956). Su octava hija fue Sasha, adoptada por Dean y Catherine Hawn.

Dick Stabile
Dick Stabile (May 29, 1909 – September 18, 1980) was an American jazz saxophonist and bandleader.
Early years
Born May 29, 1910, in Newark, New Jersey, Stabile was the son of a violinist. While growing up, he learned to play piano and violin.
Career
Stabile got his start playing in theater ensembles on Broadway in the 1950s.
At age 15, Stabile began playing with Vincent Lopez and his orchestra. Lopez required him to learn to play saxophone, and Lopez discovered that he preferred that to playing piano and violin. He subsequently played with Jules Ansel's and George Olsen's orchestras before he joined Ben Bernie's orchestra in 1928, where he remained for several years.
In 1935 he started his own ensemble, the All-America "Swing" Band, which featured Bunny Berigan, Dave Barbour, Frank Signorelli and Stan King. He recorded with vocalists such as Berigan, Paula Kelly, Burt Shaw, and Gracie Barrie, the last of which he would go on to marry. During this time Stabile recorded for the labels Decca, Bluebird, ARC, and Vocalion/Okeh. His band worked often in hotels in New York City and was chosen to play at the New York World's Fair in 1959–60.

Dean Martin
Dean Paul Martin (born Dino Paul Crocetti; June 7, 1917 – December 25, 1995) was an American singer, actor, comedian, and film producer.
One of the most popular and enduring American entertainers of the mid-20th century, Martin was nicknamed the "King of Cool" for his seemingly effortless charisma and self-assurance. He and Jerry Lewis were partners in the immensely popular comedy team "Martin and Lewis". He was a member of the "Rat Pack" and a star in concert stage/nightclubs, recordings, motion pictures, and television. He was the host of the television variety program The Dean Martin Show (1965–1974) and The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast (1974–1985).
Martin's relaxed, warbling crooning voice earned him dozens of hit singles including his signature songs "Memories Are Made of This", "That's Amore", "Everybody Loves Somebody", "You're Nobody till Somebody Loves You", "Sway", "Volare", and "Ain't That a Kick in the Head?".
Early life
Martin was born on June 7, 1917 in Steubenville, Ohio, to an Italian father, Gaetano Alfonso Crocetti (1894–1967), and an Italian-American mother, Angela Crocetti (née Barra; 1899–1966). They were married in 1914. His father, who was a barber, was originally from Montesilvano, in Abruzzo, and his maternal grandparents' origins are believed to be also from Abruzzo even if it is not clearly known. Martin had an older brother named William Alfonso Crocetti (1916-1968). Martin's first language was an Abruzzese dialect of Italian, and he did not speak English until he started school at the age of 5. He attended Grant Elementary School in Steubenville where he was bullied for his broken English. He later took up the drums as a hobby as a teenager. Martin then dropped out of Steubenville High School in the 10th grade because he thought he was smarter than his teachers. He bootlegged liquor, served as a speakeasy croupier, was a blackjack dealer, worked in a steel mill and boxed as a welterweight.

Dean Martin (de nombre real Dino Paul Crocetti) nació el 7 de junio de 1917 en la localidad de Steubenville, Ohio (Estados Unidos).
Su familia procedía de Italia, siendo su padre un barbero de nombre Gateano, y su madre Angella, una mujer dedicada a sus labores domésticas.
Poco amante de los estudios, Dino abandonó el colegio y se propuso ganarse la vida en lo que fuese, trabajando desde su adolescencia en diferentes oficios como peón, gasolinero, croupier e incluso boxeador, peleando con bastante éxito con el nombre de Kid Crocetti.
Martin se fue introduciendo poco a poco en los nightclubs como cantante, actuando junto a la orquesta de Ernie McKay con el nombre artístico de Dino Martini.
En una de sus actuaciones, que compaginaban música y humor, coincidió con un cómico que intentaba también abrirse camino en el mundo del espectáculo, su nombre era Jerry Lewis.
Los dos se hicieron muy amigos, lo que les llevó a actuar como pareja en el año 1946 en el club Atlantic City, consiguiendo con su química despertar el entusiasmo entre el público asistente.
Poco después debutaron en la radio y en 1949 firmaron con los estudios Paramount para protagonizar su primera película, "My Friend Irma" (1949), un título dirigido por George Marshall.
“My friend Irma” fue el inicio de una fructífera colaboración que produjo comedias como "Vaya Par De Marinos" (1951) de Hal Walker, "Qué Par De Golfantes" (1953) de Norman Taurog, "Viviendo Su Vida" (1954) de Taurog, "Artistas y Modelos" (1955) de Frank Tashlin, "Un Fresco En Apuros" (1955) de Taurog, "Juntos Ante El Peligro" (1956), también dirigidos por Norman Taurog, o "Loco Por Anita" (1956), película de Tashlin que contaba con la presencia de la sueca Anita Ekberg.

Dean Martin (de nombre real Dino Paul Crocetti) nació el 7 de junio de 1917 en la localidad de Steubenville, Ohio (Estados Unidos).
Su familia procedía de Italia, siendo su padre un barbero de nombre Gateano, y su madre Angella, una mujer dedicada a sus labores domésticas.
Poco amante de los estudios, Dino abandonó el colegio y se propuso ganarse la vida en lo que fuese, trabajando desde su adolescencia en diferentes oficios como peón, gasolinero, croupier e incluso boxeador, peleando con bastante éxito con el nombre de Kid Crocetti.
Martin se fue introduciendo poco a poco en los nightclubs como cantante, actuando junto a la orquesta de Ernie McKay con el nombre artístico de Dino Martini.
En una de sus actuaciones, que compaginaban música y humor, coincidió con un cómico que intentaba también abrirse camino en el mundo del espectáculo, su nombre era Jerry Lewis.
Los dos se hicieron muy amigos, lo que les llevó a actuar como pareja en el año 1946 en el club Atlantic City, consiguiendo con su química despertar el entusiasmo entre el público asistente.
Poco después debutaron en la radio y en 1949 firmaron con los estudios Paramount para protagonizar su primera película, "My Friend Irma" (1949), un título dirigido por George Marshall.
“My friend Irma” fue el inicio de una fructífera colaboración que produjo comedias como "Vaya Par De Marinos" (1951) de Hal Walker, "Qué Par De Golfantes" (1953) de Norman Taurog, "Viviendo Su Vida" (1954) de Taurog, "Artistas y Modelos" (1955) de Frank Tashlin, "Un Fresco En Apuros" (1955) de Taurog, "Juntos Ante El Peligro" (1956), también dirigidos por Norman Taurog, o "Loco Por Anita" (1956), película de Tashlin que contaba con la presencia de la sueca Anita Ekberg.
La larga amistad terminó después del rodaje de "Loco Por Anita". La pareja rompió su exitosa colaboración artística para iniciar carreras en solitario.
Mientras Jerry siguió protagonizando comedias, Dino diversificó mucho más sus papeles, demostrando un sorprendente talento para la interpretación dramática.
Además continuó grabando discos y consiguiendo éxito con canciones clásicas como "Volare" o "Everybody Loves Somebody".
En el aspecto sentimental, antes de la llegada de los 60, Martin se había casado ya en dos ocasiones. La primera con Betty MacDonald en 1940, de quien se divorció en 1949 en una relación con alcoholismo de Betty e infidelidades de Dean; y la segunda en 1949 con Jane Biegger, su relación más duradera con la que estuvo hasta el año 1973.
A partir de los años 50 Dean Martin formó parte de un grupo de actores liderado por Frank Sinatra al que denominaban "rat pack", amantes de la juerga y la buena vida y con contactos muy estrechos con el mundo de la mafia.
En el cine y ya sin la compañía de Lewis, Martin destacó en títulos como "El Baile De Los Malditos" (1957) de Edward Dmytryk, "Río Bravo" (1959), western de Howard Hawks, "La Cuadrilla De Los Once" (1960) de Lewis Milestone, "Cuatro Tíos De Texas" (1963) de Robert Aldrich, "Bésame, Tonto" (1964) de Billy Wilder, o "Los Cuatro Hijos De Katie Elder" (1965) de Henry Hathaway.
Además participó como protagonista principal en una serie de películas estilo James Bond encarnando al agente especial Matt Helm.
En 1973 contrajo matrimonio con su última esposa, Catherine Hawn, pero tampoco pudo lograr la estabilidad emocional deseable, rompiendo el enlace tres años después de la boda.
Del cine se retiró en la primera mitad de los años 80 tras participar en "Los locos del Cannonball" (1981) y "Los locos del cannonball " (1984), ambos títulos dirigidos por Hal Needham.
El 25 de diciembre de 1995 Dean Martin falleció a causa de problemas respiratorios. Tenía 78 años.
Dino tuvo ocho hijos. Cuatro con Betty McDonald: Stephen (nacido el año 1942), Claudia (1944), Barbara (1945) y Dina (1948). Tres con Jeanne: Dean Paul (1951), miembro del grupo pop Dino, Desy & Billy que falleció cuando pilotaba en un accidente aéreo, Ricci James (1953) y Gina (1956). Su octava hija fue Sasha, adoptada por Dean y Catherine Hawn.

Hezekiah Leroy Gordon Smith was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on August 14, 1909, but grew up in Cleveland. His father taught him to play the violin and encouraged him to study classical music. Smith took some music lessons but switched to jazz after hearing Louis Armstrong play the trumpet; Armstrong influenced Smith's own style at a fundamental level. Although he had received a scholarship to study at Johnson C. Smith University, Smith opted for a musical life instead. At age 15 he joined a touring minstrel show, the Aunt Jemima Revue.
In 1926 Smith joined the Dallas-based band of Alphonso Trent; this was one of the so-called "territory" bands that grew from the improvisatory and bluesy roots of jazz rather than moving toward the more composed and arranged style of the eastern seaboard. He stayed with Trent for four years, moving briefly to the band of Ferdinand "Jelly Roll" Morton but returning after becoming frustrated that his violin could not be heard over the dense sound of Morton's group. In 1930 Smith formed his own band in Buffalo, New York.
During his Buffalo years Smith cast one eye on New York, and he got there in late 1935 and 1936 after he composed a scat-like novelty song called "I'se a Muggin'. The song caught on, and musician-impresario Dick Stabile booked Smith and his band, which now included drummer "Cozy" Cole, into the Onyx Club on 52nd Street. Rechristened Stuff Smith and His Onyx Club Boys, the band was a successful fixture of the New York scene for several years. The main attraction was Smith himself, attired in a worn-out top hat and sometimes sporting a parrot on his shoulder. Smith and his band also recorded several sides for the Vocalion label in 1936. "You'se a Viper," was covered by vocalist "Fats" Waller in 1943 and enjoyed renewed popularity in the counterculture of the '60s and '70s.
He pioneered the use of the amplified violin, and he developed a bluesy, speech-inflected style that was quite distinct from the European-influenced approaches of Swing Era violinists Joe Venuti, Stephane Grappelli, and Eddie South.
In 1938 Smith appeared in the film 'Swing Street,' taking a hiatus from live performing. That took the momentum out of his New York career, and he dissolved his band after a series of disagreements with players and other industry figures. Smith bounced back with a trio that performed in New York (sometimes at the Onyx) and Chicago in the 1940s, and he briefly took over Fats Waller's band after Waller's death in 1943. A series of trio recordings was made in 1943 and 1944, but by the late 1940s Smith's career seemed to be in decline. In the 1950s, to make things worse, Smith suffered from health problems brought on by years of heavy drinking.
He moved to California and continued to perform on what was said to be a Guarneri violin. Among his fans was big-time jazz producer Norman Granz, who teamed Smith with bebop trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie and pianist Oscar Peterson for a recording on the Verve label in 1957. It was a measure of the originality of Smith's style that his playing fit as well with this new generation of players as it had with the swing bands of the 1930s. Smith made several albums for Verve and continued to record until shortly before his death.
Smith found that European audiences were especially appreciative of his music. He settled in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1965 and made several recordings in Europe. Smith fell seriously ill on tour in Paris. Doctors placed him on the critical list; but Smith recovered and continued to perform. He died in Munich, Germany, on September 25, 1967, and was remembered, as "the cat that took the apron-strings off the fiddle."

When Martin and Lewis signed their film contract with Paramount Pictures, they were allowed to make one film "outside" the studio per year through their own company, York Productions. This film was made under that provision, with the stars taking a small salary in exchange for 90 percent of the film's profits.
However, upon its release, Martin and Lewis ended up in a long, drawn-out legal battle. After several years, they relinquished all financial interest in this film in exchange for not having to make any more of these "outside" ones. The copyright on this film was not renewed in 1977, resulting in its public domain status.
The film is based on a play by James B. Allardice that ran for 151 performances from 1948-49 with Mike Kellin and Kenneth Forbes repeating their roles.[3]
The producers opened up the play by adding a sequence of an Absent Without Leave Lewis in drag fending off the amorous advances of his drunken platoon sergeant, a sequence on an obstacle course and the addition of several songs written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans.
One of the later Martin and Lewis films, Sailor Beware had a working title of At Sea with the Navy.[4]

"Three women who dined at Chilly D's Sports Lounge in Stockton, Calif., received a bill identifying them as "fat girls," and a server at the restaurant located inside the Cameo Club Casino has been suspended, says Fox News.
The women had dinner at Chilly D's last week and were shocked to see that "fat girls" had been typed in on the receipt by a restaurant staffer, according to the report.
"I got the bill, and I was like, 'Why does the receipt say fat girls?'" said one of the diners, Christina Duran. She showed her friends the bill after they thought she was joking."*

Dean Martin Dean Martin (de nombre real Dino Paul Crocetti) nació el 7 de junio de 1917 en la localidad de Steubenville, Ohio (Estados Unidos). La larga amistad terminó después del rodaje de "Loco Por Anita". La pareja rompió su exitosa colaboración artística para iniciar carreras en solitario.
Mientras Jerry siguió protagonizando comedias, Dino diversificó mucho más sus papeles, demostrando un sorprendente talento para la interpretación dramática.
Además continuó grabando discos y consiguiendo éxito con canciones clásicas como "Volare" o "Everybody Loves Somebody".
En el aspecto sentimental, antes de la llegada de los 60, Martin se había casado ya en dos ocasiones. La primera con Betty MacDonald en 1940, de quien se divorció en 1949 en una relación con alcoholismo de Betty e infidelidades de Dean; y la segunda en 1949 con Jane Biegger, su relación más duradera con la que estuvo hasta el año 1973.
A partir de los años 50 Dean Martin formó parte de un grupo de actores liderado por Frank Sinatra al que denominaban "rat pack", amantes de la juerga y la buena vida y con contactos muy estrechos con el mundo de la mafia.
En el cine y ya sin la compañía de Lewis, Martin destacó en títulos como "El Baile De Los Malditos" (1957) de Edward Dmytryk, "Río Bravo" (1959), western de Howard Hawks, "La Cuadrilla De Los Once" (1960) de Lewis Milestone, "Cuatro Tíos De Texas" (1963) de Robert Aldrich, "Bésame, Tonto" (1964) de Billy Wilder, o "Los Cuatro Hijos De Katie Elder" (1965) de Henry Hathaway.
Además participó como protagonista principal en una serie de películas estilo James Bond encarnando al agente especial Matt Helm.
En 1973 contrajo matrimonio con su última esposa, Catherine Hawn, pero tampoco pudo lograr la estabilidad emocional deseable, rompiendo el enlace tres años después de la boda.
Del cine se retiró en la primera mitad de los años 80 tras participar en "Los locos del Cannonball" (1981) y "Los locos del cannonball " (1984), ambos títulos dirigidos por Hal Needham.
El 25 de diciembre de 1995 Dean Martin falleció a causa de problemas respiratorios. Tenía 78 años.
Dino tuvo ocho hijos. Cuatro con Betty McDonald: Stephen (nacido el año 1942), Claudia (1944), Barbara (1945) y Dina (1948). Tres con Jeanne: Dean Paul (1951), miembro del grupo pop Dino, Desy & Billy que falleció cuando pilotaba en un accidente aéreo, Ricci James (1953) y Gina (1956). Su octava hija fue Sasha, adoptada por Dean y Catherine Hawn.

Further complications include a Post Exchange worker who is pregnant, a company commander who gets all his information from his wife, a scheming supply sergeant, and a defective Coca Cola machine.

At War with the Army is a 1950 musical comedy film directed by Hal Walker and starring the comedy team of Martin and Lewis and introducing Polly Bergen. It was filmed from July through August 1949, and released on December 30, 1950 by Paramount. It was re-released in 1958 by OMAT Pictures.
Although filmed before My Friend Irma Goes West, it was held back until the sequel to Martin and Lewis' smash film debut My Friend Irma was released.
