Plot
Allison has no trouble finding a man. It's keeping them that's the problem. She meets Brian and swears things will be different, but they aren't. When he leaves her, Allison blames Brian's younger sister, and vows to get even by stealing away her 17-year-old son.
Burton, Carrie: You're not in Guatemala now, Dr. Ropata
Rachel McKenna: I'm gonna end up with nothing, which is precisely what I deserve.::Jenny Harrison: Come one Rachel, there's got to be a bright side to all of this.::Rachel McKenna: Where?::Jenny Harrison: What about all you've learnt from running your own business?::Rachel McKenna: How to screw it up, you mean.::Rachel McKenna: Thanks. I shall now go home and ponder my future.::Jenny Harrison: Do you want a job at the clinic? While you're thinking about things?::Rachel McKenna: My brain surgery's a little rusty.::Jenny Harrison: As P.A. for me and David.::Rachel McKenna: Thanks but I can't really see myself in a crumpling suit kissing butt in an utterly poorly-paid and meaningless form of wage slavery.
Plot
At the start of World War II, Cmdr. Ericson is assigned to convoy escort HMS Compass Rose with inexperienced officers and men just out of training. The winter seas make life miserable enough, but the men must also harden themselves to rescuing survivors of U-Boat attacks, while seldom able to strike back. Traumatic events afloat and ashore create a warm bond between the skipper and his first officer. Atmospheric sea footage.

Monsarrat's brilliant best seller comes surging to life
Lt. Cmdr. Ericson: [as Narrator] For us the Battle of the Atlantic was becoming a private war. If you were in it, you knew all about it. You knew how to keep watch on filthy nights, and how to go without sleep, how to bury the dead, and how to die without wasting anyone's time.
Tallow: If anyone else makes a noise, I'll have his guts for a necktie.
Capt. Ericson: Steady as she goes, Number One.
Lockhart: Sir, reports from HQ say that there are five U-boats in this area.::Capt. Ericson: Five? It was good of them to tell us!::Lockhart: [Later that evening] Now they say there are nine U-boats operating around this area.::Capt. Ericson: Nine? Good grief, we must be very popular this evening!
Bennett: Snorkers! Good-oh!
Capt. Ericson: [opening lines as narrator] This is a story of the Battle of the Atlantic, the story of the ocean, two ships, and a handful of men. The men are the heroes; the heoines the ships. The only villain is the sea, the cruel sea that man has made more cruel.
Lockhart: [at the mess table] Getting rattled, John?::Morell: Well, whatever we do, these damn U-boats seem to get through the screen every time. We lost almost half our convoy and an escort and are almost two days from Gibralter.::[he gags with disgust;]::Morell: It's an odd thing to think if nothing else happens, this is probably the worst convoy in the history of sea warfare.::Lockhart: [trying to be comforting] Something to tell your grandchildren.::Morell: Yes, indeed, in fact, if you can guarantee I will have grandchildren, I shall recover my spirits immediately.::Baker: But how can he guarantee you'll have grandchildren?::Morell: [angrily] Well, if they're as stupid as you are, I hope I don't have any!::Baker: [taken aback at the outburst] Oh, I say...::Baker: [he eats without further response]
Lockhart: [after a battle] Are you all right?::Capt. Ericson: No, I don't mind telling you I'm not!
Capt. Ericson: [after choosing a battle strategy that has cost lives] I had to do it!::Lockhart: Anyway, it's all in the report.::Capt. Ericson: It was my fault!::Lockhart: I... I identified it as a submarine. If anyone murdered those men, I did.::Capt. Ericson: No one murdered them - it's the war, the whole bloody war! We've just got to do these things and say our prayers at the end.
Watts: [repairing the engine] Come to see the fun, sir? It won't be long now.::Morell: Fine, chief, but the captain's a little worried about the noise. Could you do anything to... tone it down a bit?::Watts: Pretty well finished now, sir. We're just flabbin' up the nuts. Could you hear the hammerin' up top?::Morell: Hear it? There were U-boats popping up from miles around complaining about the racket.

Scott Philip Brown (born September 12, 1959) is an American politician and the junior United States Senator from Massachusetts. Brown previously served as a member of the Massachusetts General Court, first in the State House of Representatives (1998–2004) and then in the State Senate (2004–2010).
Brown is a member of the Republican Party, and faced the Democratic candidate, Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, in the 2010 special election to succeed U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy for the remainder of the term ending January 3, 2013. While initially trailing Coakley in polling by a large margin, Brown won the election and in January 2010 became the first Republican elected to the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts since Edward Brooke in 1972.
Prior to entering the state legislature, he had experience as a town selectman and assessor. He is a practicing attorney, concentrating in real estate law and serving as defense counsel in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the Massachusetts Army National Guard. Brown is a graduate of Wakefield High School (1977), Tufts University (1981), and Boston College Law School (1985).
Elizabeth Warren (born June 22, 1949) is an American bankruptcy law expert, policy advocate, Harvard Law School professor, and Democratic Party candidate in the 2012 United States Senate election in Massachusetts. She has written several academic and popular books concerning the American economy and personal finance. She contributed to the oversight of the 2008 U.S. bailout program, and also led the conception and establishment of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Warren attended The George Washington University and the University of Houston. She received a J.D. from Rutgers School of Law–Newark in 1976. Warren taught law at several universities and was listed by the Association of American Law Schools as a minority law professor throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In the wake of the U.S. financial crisis, Warren served as chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel created to oversee the Troubled Assets Relief Program in 2008. She later served as Assistant to the President and Special Advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under U.S. President Barack Obama.
Willard Mitt Romney (born March 12, 1947) is an American businessman and the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party for President of the United States in the 2012 election. He was the 70th Governor of Massachusetts (2003–07).
The son of Lenore and George W. Romney (Governor of Michigan, 1963–69), he was raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. In 1966, after one year at Stanford University, he left the United States to spend thirty months in France as a Mormon missionary. In 1969, he married Ann Davies, and the couple had five children together. In 1971, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Brigham Young University and, in 1975, a joint Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from Harvard University as a Baker Scholar. He entered the management consulting industry, which in 1977, led to a position at Bain & Company. Later serving as Chief Executive Officer, he helped bring the company out of financial crisis. In 1984, he co-founded the spin-off Bain Capital, a private equity investment firm that became highly profitable and one of the largest such firms in the nation. His net worth is estimated at $190–250 million, wealth that has helped fund his political campaigns. Active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as Ward Bishop and later Stake President in his area near Boston. He ran as the Republican candidate in the 1994 U.S. Senate election in Massachusetts, losing to long-time incumbent Ted Kennedy. In 1999, he was hired as President and CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Winter Olympics and Paralympics; and he helped turn the fiscally troubled games into a success.
