Medical care is important, but perhaps public health services are more important. In this webinar, we'll look at some surprising statistics and have an opportunity to think about: How does what I'm doing as a VISTA impact the health of the people I'm working with? What health-related services or agencies are available in my neighborhood? What specific strategies or opportunities could I use to improve community health? This webinar is presented by Dr. Daniel Blumenthal, who served as a VISTA in 1969-1970 in Lee County, Arkansas. He is now Associate Dean of Community Health in the Department of Community Health and Preventive Medicine at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta.

7th Annual Gandhi Day Walk-a-thon, 5K race, & Health Screen

On Sept 29th, 2013, the community of Morgantown, WV came together to celebrate a peaceful figure, Mahatma Gandhi. The event featured a Walk-a-thon, 5K race, and free public health screening. The health screening was organized by Kunj G. Patel, MD of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), MSRF, with the help of medical student and nutritionist volunteers from West Virginia University. The Walk-a-thon and 5K race was organized by the Hindu Religious and Cultural Center of Morgantown. All proceeds went to the Shack Neighboorhood House--a community center for developing children of Morgantown, WV.
