2009-05-26 On May 26, Vancouverites joined other Day of Decision rallies to protest the California Supreme Court upholding Proposition 8, the ballot measure in which 52% of voters banned same-sex marriage. In the second half of the rally, speakers talked about how good it was to have same-sex marriage in Canada. 2008-11-15 When the world was elated with the election of Obama as president of the United States, gay Americans and their supporters were despondent about the anti-gay ballots measures passed in California, Florida, Arizona and Arkansas. . . . Proposition 8 was particularly troublesome because it revoked previously granted human rights, a first in American history. . . . When the grassroots "Join the Impact" movement spread around the world, there was still no organizer for the Vancouver event on November 15. I was dismayed with the ignorance and apathy of people around me so I decided to step to the plate. I bought a $100 megaphone and some posters. It took a long time to gather quotes from various people like Martin Luther King, Bayard Rustin, Elie Wiesel, and other notable human rights advocates. . . . I was surprised that the local leaders of the gay community didn't help me. I got no response from the local Amnesty International. I guess homophobia is still a very difficult subject even in Canada where same-sex marriage is legal. We were fortunate to be joined by Megan Cavanagh, an actress in "Exes and Ohs", along with her TV and her real wife. . . . The Ubyssey should be very proud of their excellent coverage. They were able to relate this world event to the students and alumni of UBC. The local media was busy with the municipal election that day. About 100 people showed up at the Vancouver Art Gallery which was a pretty good turnout considering the 4-day short ...

For the Canada Day weekend we headed out to Maple Bay for the 25th anniversary rendezvous of the Pacific Rim Yacht Club. We left a couple of hours late and with a short time trying to sail across the Strait, we arrived at Porlier Pass a hour and half too late. I didn't realize that the peak flood current was gonna be that strong until we got there. A sailboat ahead of us had gone through without too much of a problem but when we went through we actually lost ground at one point. With the engine at full revs and all sails up, we used a back eddy along the south shore to finally punch through. The sailboat behind us wasn't so lucky as we never saw him get through. The current had built up too quickly.

On March 24, 2007, a little over one month after their February cement spill, Lafarge releases more cement. Metro Vancouver did not pursue this release. But this video clearly shows cement being released into the surround area where there are blueberry and cranberry fields. Cement contains silica and hexavalent chromium which are hazards to health. On February 17, 2007, Lafarge Cement in Richmond, BC had a cement silo overfilled. The area downwind, including Shelter Island marina, was covered with cement. Over two years later, they have yet to admit liability. They initially promised to repair my boat but they broke their promise and I was forced to sue them. Metro Vancouver has laid 7 environmental charges. I've been subpoenaed as a witness for the November trial. This video was taken on my sailboat and shows the cement raining down. It had a pH of almost 13, almost 1000 times more caustic than bleach. Premier Marine, one of two underwriters for my boat insurance policy, and their adjuster, Paul Dupré, said that the cement did not damage the varnish. As such, Premier Marine would only pay for cleaning, not damage. The other underwriter, Economical, paid out in full. All the boats suffered etched glass, and peeling varnish. I was able to switch to Dolphin Insurance in the middle of that claim. They knew the damage was caused by cement because some of their customers suffered boat damage. PUROLATOR drives over my garbage can - FAIL

A Purolator Courier driver drives over the lid of my garbage can which was left on my driveway on my property by the garbage men. He promised to replace it but after 6 months he hasn't. So Purolator promised to pay for the garbage can but that was 2 months ago.
