Kali Meehan

Kalivati Gerald Meehan (born 9 March 1970) is an Australian-based New Zealand professional boxer of Fijian descent. He turned pro after a career in rugby league. His son Willis Meehan plays rugby league and boxes.

Amateur career

Before becoming professional, Meehan fought as an amateur with a Record of 23-5.

Professional career

Nicknamed "Meanhands", Meehan's memorable appearances include a contested loss in the WBO heavyweight title bout to Lamon Brewster, KO loss to Hasim Rahman, and a first-round TKO loss to Danny Williams in another title bout for British Commonwealth crown.

He had been the Australian heavyweight champion with multiple successful defences until 2000 when he vacated the title.

In October 2007, Meehan beat contender DaVarryl Williamson, knocking him down and winning via a TKO in the 6th round.

In February 2008, he defeated Jeremy Bates knocking him out in the 3rd round of a 10 round bout.

in 2010 he lost to Ruslan Chagaev in May on a points decision and beat Evans Quinn in September, also on points.

Willis Meehan

Willis Meehan (born 11 September 1995) is an Australian professional boxer. He previously played professional rugby league for the Sydney Roosters in the National Rugby League. He played at second-row, prop and lock. He has been compared to good friend and another rugby league-boxer and former teammate Sonny Bill Williams.

Background

Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Meehan moved to New South Wales, Australia, at a young age and played his junior football for the Wyong Roos, before being signed by the Sydney Roosters.

Playing career

In 2013 and 2014, Meehan played for the Sydney Roosters' NYC team. In 2013, he played for the Australian Schoolboys. In Round 14 of the 2014 NRL season, Meehan made his NRL debut for the Roosters against the Newcastle Knights. On 2 September 2014, he was named at lock in the 2014 NYC Team of the Year. In 2015, Meehan was stood down by the Roosters after being charged with robbery in company and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was sacked by the club in July 2015.

Travis Walker

Travis Walker, born June 22, 1979 in Tallahassee, Florida, is an American boxer who was an amateur star and is currently a professional heavyweight boxer.

Amateur

He became the 2003 National Golden Gloves Super Heavyweight Champion beating among others a 17-year-old Travis Kauffman but was in the shadow of the nationally dominant Jason Estrada who beat him three times in the amateurs. His record was 26-8.

Professional

Known as "Freight Train", Walker turned pro for Goossen in 2004. At the start he fought lackluster competition. In 2005 he had his first decent (record 8-1, well-known sparring partner) opponent in Jason Gavern on ESPN which ended in a draw. In late 2006, he scored his biggest win, a close majority decision over undefeated amateur nemesis Jason Estrada. In April 2007, Walker fought George Garcia, another undefeated amateur star who had beaten him as an amateur, and won the lightly regarded vacant IBA Americas Heavyweight title by a narrow split decision.

In October 2007, Walker was involved in a controversial fight against another former amateur star in T.J. Wilson when the referee stopped the fight a mere fifteen seconds into the bout. Walker was never knocked down but the referee deemed he was out on his feet. He won the rematch by KO2.
