Michael Roger "Mick" Channon (born 28 November 1948) is a sportsman who enjoyed a career as a striker with Southampton and England in the 1970s and later became a successful racehorse trainer.
Channon was born in Orcheston, Wiltshire and made his debut for Southampton as a 17-year-old in 1966, scoring in the match against Bristol City. Within three years he had established himself as the club's main goalscorer and was consistent in front of goal at a time when Southampton were one of the less fashionable teams in English football's First Division. However, despite a record season tally of 21 goals for Southampton in 1974, the club were relegated to the Second Division at the end of the season.
Channon stayed loyal to Southampton despite obvious concerns for his international chances and was rewarded in 1976 which was a special year for Channon. Southampton were still in the Second Division but nevertheless enjoyed a dream run to the FA Cup final where they played Manchester United. Although Southampton were a lower division side, they were considerably more experienced than Manchester United's youthful team. Southampton won 1–0, with Channon playing a part in the winning goal scored late in the game by Bobby Stokes. It was his first domestic honour in the game.
Peter Leslie Shilton OBE (born 18 September 1949) is a former English footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He currently holds the record for playing more games for the England men's team than anyone else, earning 125 caps, and he also holds the all-time record for the most competitive appearances in world football. The IFFHS ranked Shilton among the top ten keepers of the 20th century in 2000.
His 30-year career includes 11 different clubs, two European Cup finals and more than 1,300 competitive matches. Shilton also represented England at UEFA Euro 1980, the 1982 FIFA World Cup, the 1986 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 1988 and the 1990 FIFA World Cup. He has the distinction of playing over 100 league games for five different clubs. Shilton did not make his World Cup finals debut until the age of 32, but he played in 17 finals matches and shares the record 10 clean sheets in World Cup finals with French keeper Fabien Barthez.
During his time at Nottingham Forest, Shilton won many honours, including the First Division championship, two European Cups, a UEFA Super Cup, and the Football League Cup.
A maternal insult (also referred to as a "yo mama" joke) is a reference to a person's mother through the use of phrases such as "your mother" or other regional variants, frequently used to insult the target by way of their mother. Used as an insult, "your mother..." preys on widespread sentiments of filial piety, making the insult particularly and globally offensive. "Your mother" can be combined with most types of insults, although suggestions of promiscuity are particularly common. Insults based on obesity, incest, age, race, poverty, poor hygiene, unattractiveness, or stupidity may also be used. Compared to other types of insults, "your mother" insults are especially likely to incite violence. Slang variants such as "yo mama", "yo momma", "yer ma", "ya mum", "your mum" or "your mom" are sometimes used, depending on the local dialect. Insults involving "your mother" are commonly used when playing the dozens.
Although the phrase has a long history of including a description portion (such as the old "your mother wears combat boots", which implied that one's mother worked as a prostitute in the military), the phrase "yo mama" by itself, without any qualifiers, has become commonly used as an all-purpose insult or an expression of defiance.

We forgave him the 'Ice" bit because he's a pensioner now but it was still cold enough. Hardly done in good grace but Kevin Keegan, Norman Hunter & Jack Channon won't be too happy about it either. Thanks to Mick Quinn & the Two Year Old Handicapper Matthew Tester for making our day.
Fantastic team goal from Southampton, finished off by Mick Channon, against Liverpool in the 1981/82 season. In my (slightly biased) opinion, the greatest goal ever scored. Enjoy!
This footage is just over 2 minutes long, and has the team parading the trophy around The Dell before the game against QPR. There is also footage of the legendary Bobby Stokes receiving his Ford Granada (I think) before the game. Notice the huge "L" plate situated on the roof.
