Tellisford
Coordinates: 51°17′54″N 2°16′52″W / 51.2983°N 2.2811°W / 51.2983; -2.2811
Tellisford is a village and civil parish 6 miles (10 km) north-east of Frome in the Mendip district of Somerset, England. The parish includes the village of Woolverton.
History
The village was known as Tefleford in 1001 and Tablesford in 1086 meaning Theabul's ford or ford at a flat place.
The parish of Woolverton was part of the hundred of Frome, while Tellisford was part of the Wellow Hundred.
The manor was acquired by the Hungerfords of Farleigh Hungerford in the early 15th century who used the fulling mill to endow their chantry chapel. The cloth making industry continuing until 1911.
It was largely destroyed by a serious fire in 1785.
Tellisford is one of the Thankful Villages which lost no men in World War I.
Governance
Tellisford has a Parish Meeting, where all village electors are automatically members. It is required to meet at least twice a year and does not levy a precept.
The village falls within the Non-metropolitan district of Mendip, which was formed on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, having previously been part of Frome Rural District, which is responsible for local planning and building control, local roads, council housing, environmental health, markets and fairs, refuse collection and recycling, cemeteries and crematoria, leisure services, parks, and tourism.

When in Bath my local wild swimming spot is Tellisford Weir. Today I wanted to take you with me early, 06:30am to be precise. Why, because this place is best enjoyed in the early morning, away from passers by, hikers and crowds. Venture down to the weir at this ungodly time and you will be all alone to soak up the atmosphere that nature so wonderfully provides. Just me, the water & the wildlife in this one. I have been wild swimming for as long as can remember and my body is well conditioned to cope with the cold temperatures outside of a wetsuit, so if its your first time, heres 5 tips:
1. Don't jump into cold water.
2. Tell someone where you're going and how long you expect to be.
3. Take enough warm clothes to change into afterwards
4. Have a warm drink to hand.
5. Enjoy yourself of course.

Tellisford is one of the Thankful Villages which lost no men in World War I.
Governance
Tellisford has a Parish Meeting, where all village electors are automatically members. It is required to meet at least twice a year and does not levy a precept.
The village falls within the Non-metropolitan district of Mendip, which was formed on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, having previously been part of Frome Rural District, which is responsible for local planning and building control, local roads, council housing, environmental health, markets and fairs, refuse collection and recycling, cemeteries and crematoria, leisure services, parks, and tourism.
