Great Bookham is a village in Surrey, England, one of six semi-rural spring line settlements between the towns of Leatherhead and Guildford. The Bookhams – Great and Little Bookham – are part of the Saxon settlement of Bocham, "the village by the beeches", the latter being a very narrow strip parish. They are surrounded by common land. Little Bookham in the west has the Bookham railway station.
The villages are astride the A246, which is the non-motorway and direct route between the two towns. Once two distinct villages, the Bookhams have long been interconnected with residential roads that give the impression of one large village.
The village is well known as the location of Polesden Lacey, a country house on the southern edge of the village, surrounded by more than 1,000 acres (4.0 km2) of grounds, now owned by the National Trust and open to the public.
According to a charter c.675, the original of which is lost but which exists in a later form, there were granted to the Abbey twenty dwellings at Bocham cum Effingham. This was confirmed by four Saxon kings; King Offa of Mercia and of the nations roundabout in 787; King Athelstan who was King and ruler of the whole island of Britain in 933 confirmed the privileges to the monastery; King Edgar, Emperor of all Britain in 967 confirmed "twelve mansiones" in Bocham, and King Edward the Confessor, King of the English in 1062 confirmed twenty mansae at Bocham cum Effingham, Driteham and Pechingeorde.
St Nicholas (sometimes spelt without the ’h’). Ian Nairn writes in ‘The Buildings of England: Surrey’ (1962): ‘Picturesque at one end and completely restored at the other, an odd effect. The picturesqueness comes from the weatherboarded W tower, in a most attractive Home Counties vernacular style. ‘A lot [of stained glass] in the E window; six scenes from the life of Christ. From Costessey Hall in Norfolk, said to be C15 Flemish but looks German….the faces are startlingly vivid. ‘Monument to Robert Shiers †1668, his wife †1700, and his son †1685. Three busts in a big ornate architectural surround….well-carved details, e.g. the winged skulls at the sides. Up-to-date busts with Baroque hair and expression.’ Thomas Moore: ‘Semi-reclining Roman figure in martial attitude; obelisk with tro...
The Pixie Tiny House UK Between Guildford and Great Bookham The Pixie Cabin is our little gem built from mainly leftover bits of timber from past projects, discarded pallets, broken branches, logs and trees! She is used as our site office, tool box, tea hut, office, dry area on rainy days and above all, being fully mobile, makes a great advertisement for our company services. Pixie is fully equipped with all the essentials to make our working day more comfortable especially during the cold winter months. The small log burner not only keeps us warm but is great for drying out damp work wear and keeping the coffee warm. The cabin is powered by rechargeable power packs that run the low voltage lighting but can also supply enough electricity for small power tools. Alternatively, a simple ext...

Reading, Berkshire and Great Bookham, Surrey. Various shots show a 1961 Sunbeam F4A with Burlingham body trolley bus driver Peter Lepine-Smith setting off from a depot and driving a trolley bus on one of the few remaining trolley circuits in Britain at the time, although it was due to close shortly. He picks up his wife and two little daughters from a bus stop and takes them for a spin around the town. As Peter changes lines with a pole above the trolley bus, we cut to a shot of him doing the same for a model trolley bus in his back garden in Great Bookham, Surrey. This amazing model stands at about five foot and runs on lines around the garden. Peter stops at a little bus stop to pick up his two daughters who clamber in the back; it does look rather cramped for the driver, but comm...

Places to see in ( Leatherhead - UK ) Leatherhead is a town in Surrey, England on the right bank of the River Mole, and at the edge of the contiguous built-up area of London. Its local district is Mole Valley. Records exist of the place from Anglo Saxon England. It has a combined theatre and cinema, which is at the centre of the re-modelling following late 20th century pedestrianisation. The bypass streets to the town centre close and feature annually in the London-Surrey cycle classic which is ranked by the world's cycling federation. Just north-east of the midpoint of Surrey[n 1] and at a junction of ancient north–south and east–west roads, elements of the town have been a focus for transport throughout its history. A main early spur to this was the construction of the bridge over the ...

ADVICE FOR LIVING IN A TINY HOME! We lived in a tiny home in the UK before we had kids so I am offering my perspective on alternative living and how to live tiny! "The Bus that Youtube Built" SERIES: Welcome to our family's journey! There's me - Alex, Dave, my husband, Edward, 6 and Juno, 4. Musicians by trade, with a passion for adventure! Our dream is to set off across the world with our kids in a converted bus - a home away from home - to show them the world outside of their mainstream geography classes. Jodhpur is the 2nd largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is located 335 kilometres (208 mi) west of the state capital, Jaipur and 200 kilometres (124 mi) from the city of Ajmer. It was formerly the seat of a princely state of the same name, the capital of the kingdom known as Marwar. Jodhpur is a popular tourist destination, featuring many palaces, forts and temples, set in the stark landscape of the Thar desert. The city is known as the "Sun City" for the bright, sunny weather it enjoys all year. It is also referred to as the "Blue City" due to the vivid blue-painted houses around the Mehrangarh Fort. The old city circles the fort and is bounded by a wall with several gates. However, the city has expanded greatly outside the wall over the past several decades. Jodhpur lies nea...
