The INNERview Ep115 One of the world's top cancer specialists, Dr. Euishin Edmund Kim Dr. Euishin Edmund Kim, one of the most accomplished doctors in the field of cancer research, served as a tenured professor at the world's leading MD Anderson Cancer Center for 32 years. He was born in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do Province in 1941, and later studied medicine at Seoul National University, specializing in preventive medicine. Then, he served as a medical officer during the Vietnam War, where he met American doctors who recommended that he further his education and training in the U.S. After obtaining his doctorate from SNU, he went to the states in 1966 to study nuclear medicine and he received training at Johns Hopkins as well as the universities of Pittsburgh, Minnesota and Washington. In recognition of his contribution to the field, he was appointed as the President of the American College of Nuclear Medicine in 1994. He also garnered attention with some 350 papers on groundbreaking research, and was named the doctor of the year in the states 11 times. He was also conferred medals from the Korean government for his meritorious service. Even at the age of over 70, Dr. Euishin Edmund Kim is still dedicated to cancer research and the training of young medical professionals in the field. A man who had once been interested in architecture answered his calling to help others by dedicating his entire life to medicine and cancer research. Now, he has found a new calling - to establish schools in Pyong Yang, North Korea, to provide improved training in the fields of medicine, dentistry, Korean medicine and so on.
