Hey Dad..! was an Australian sitcom produced by Gary Reilly Productions, originally airing from 1987 to 1994 on the Seven Network.
Architect Martin Kelly singlehandedly raises his children Simon, Debbie and Jenny. His wife Margaret had died three years prior to the start of the series.
Martin runs his own architectural business from the family home in the Sydney suburb of Chatswood. He employs his cousin Betty Wilson, a good natured ditz from the New South Wales country town of Walgett, as his secretary.
Many episodes deal with the daily stresses Martin faces as the family patriarch, such as settling arguments amongst his children. He frequently endures Betty's elaborate excuses for tardiness and is constantly frustrated with her delayed productivity at work. Simon's best friend is Gerald "Nudge" Noritas, a neighbour who constantly helps himself to whatever food he can find in the Kellys' kitchen.
In early episodes the show briefly examines how the characters are struggling to deal with the absence of Margaret from their lives. Martin also breaks the fourth wall several times to deliver sarcastic one-liners to camera. This trait is quickly dropped after the first 12 episodes.
Michael James Owen Pallett (born September 7, 1979 Toronto) is a Canadian composer, violinist, keyboardist, and vocalist. He won the 2006 Polaris Music Prize for the album He Poos Clouds.
Pallett is best known as a solo artist, formerly under the name Final Fantasy. Leon Taheny is also credited as drummer and engineer. Following the release of Heartland, Pallett has toured with guitarist/percussionist Thomas Gill and more recently with his former collaborators in Les Mouches, Rob Gordon and Matt Smith.
Pallett has been noted for his live performances, wherein he plays the violin into a loop pedal, a technique also used by musicians such as Andrew Bird, Jeremy Larson, Emily Wells and Zoë Keating. Pallett uses Max/MSP and SooperLooper to do multi-phonic looping, which sends his violin signal to amplifiers across the stage.
Pallett's father is an avid church organist who provided Owen with a background in classical music until his early preteens. From the age of a toddler, Owen studied classical violin and composed his first piece at age 13. A notable early composition includes some of the music for the game Traffic Department 2192; he moved on to scoring films, to composing two operas while in university. Apart from the indie music scene, he has had commissions from the Barbican, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Bang on a Can, Ecstatic Music Festival, the Vancouver CBC Orchestra, and Fine Young Classicals.
Hey Dad, where you been for so long?
Why won't you look at me?
Is there something wrong?
Do you remember me, the son that you conceived?
Why won't you look at me?
A son that you deceived.
Oh God, what did I do to deserve this?
A man I never knew.
A man I cannot miss.
I gave you many chances, many that you took.
And now I stand before you,
You won't even look.
How can we start all over when we never began?
How can you be a father,
When you're not even a man?
Why do you play these games?
That are in my head
You said you'd love me dearly,
but it looks like he's dead.
Oh God, what did I do to deserve this?
A man I never knew.
A man I cannot miss.
How can we start all over when we never began?
How can you be a father,
When you're not even a man?
Why do you play these games?
That are in my head
You said you'd love me dearly,
but it looks like he's dead. (hey dad, hey dad)
So then came kids of my own.
I was there for them.
I am the man you couldn't be. (I didn't learn from him.)
Where he is, I don't even know at all.
I don't even remember,
The last time he called.
How can we start all over?
How can we start all over?
How can we start all over?
How can we start all over?
Hey, Dad, I've been floating down the river
To the place you retired to
Away from the women who despise you
I've been sad, 'cause all my friends resent me
But I got a plan for a miracle!
I'll shit it out and put it on the table
Dear Son, should I be a proud one?
I saw what you said on the telly
You made your mother sound so silly
How is my offspring so pretentious?
Your art is lazy, trite and schlocky
