Spelling is the writing of one or more words with letters and diacritics. In addition, the term often, but not always, means an accepted standard spelling or the process of naming the letters. In the sense of a standard, spelling is one of the elements of orthography and a prescriptive element of alphabetic languages.

Spellings attempt to transcribe the sounds of the language into alphabetic letters, but phonetic spellings are exceptions in many languages for several reasons. Pronunciation changes over time in all languages, and spelling reforms are irregular in most languages and rare in some. In addition, words from other languages may be adopted without being adapted to the spelling system, non-standard spellings are often adopted after extensive common usage, and different meanings of a word or homophones may be deliberately spelled in different ways to differentiate them visually.

Whereas uniformity in the spelling of words is one of the features of a standard language in modern times, and official languages usually prescribe standard spelling, minority languages and regional languages often lack this trait. Furthermore, it is a relatively recent development in various major languages in national contexts, linked to the compiling of dictionaries, the founding of national academies and other institutions of language maintenance, including compulsory mass education.^{[citation needed]}

Dora the Explorer is an American animated television series created by Chris Gifford, Valerie Walsh, and Eric Weiner. Dora the Explorer became a regular series in 2000. The show is carried on the Nickelodeon cable television network, including the associated Nick Jr. channel. It aired on CBS until September 2006. A Spanish-dubbed version first aired as part of a Nick en español block on NBC Universal-owned Telemundo through September 2006; since April 2008, this version of the program has been carried on Univision as part of the Planeta U block.

Dora, the main character, is an eight-year-old girl who embarks on a trip in every episode in order to find something or help somebody. She asks the viewers at home to help her find new ways to reach places with the help of Map. She also teaches viewers Spanish, introducing them to short words and phrases.

Dora has a positive view of the characters she meets, failing even to hold a grudge against the mischievous fox, Swiper, who continually attempts to steal items from her party. She acts against villains only when it seems that compromise is impossible, and even in these cases, fails to display actual anger. She gives others a chance to try their hands at tasks even when she herself might have an easier time with them. Dora values her family, whom she loves openly, though she spends little time indoors at home with them. She tries to introduce her traditions and customs, subtly and without compulsion, to those who are not familiar with them.

James Christian "Jimmy" Kimmel (born November 13, 1967) is an American comedian, actor, voice artist and television host. He is the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a late-night talk show that airs on ABC. Prior to that, Kimmel was best known as the co-host of Comedy Central's The Man Show and Win Ben Stein's Money. Kimmel is also a television producer, having produced shows such as Crank Yankers, Sports Show with Norm Macdonald, and The Andy Milonakis Show.

Kimmel was born in the Mill Basin neighborhood of the New York City borough of Brooklyn, the eldest of three children of Joann (née Iacono), a homemaker, and James Kimmel, an IBM executive. He is Roman Catholic and, as a child, served as an altar boy. Kimmel is of German and Irish descent on his father’s side and Italian descent on his mother’s side. His uncle, Frank Potenza, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! as a regular from 2003 until his death in 2011.

The family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, when he was nine years old. He graduated from Ed W. Clark High School and then attended University of Nevada, Las Vegas for one year before attending Arizona State University for two years without completing a degree.

Victoria Davey "Tori" Spelling (born May 16, 1973) is an American actress and author. Her first role was Donna Martin on Beverly Hills, 90210 in 1990. She appeared in a string of made-for-television films, such as A Friend to Die For and Mother, May I Sleep with Danger?. Spelling also rose to prominence through independent films such as Trick and The House of Yes. She reprised her prominent role in the spinoff, 90210 in 2009.

Her autobiography, sTORI Telling, debuted on top of the New York Times Best Seller list and was named the best celebrity autobiography of 2009.

Victoria Davey Spelling was born in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of Candy (née Marer; born 1945) and Aaron Spelling (1923-2006). She has a younger brother, Randy, who is also an actor. Both of Spelling's parents were Jewish, though her family celebrated both Christmas and Hanukkah while she was growing up. Her middle name comes from her paternal grandfather. She attended Beverly Hills High School in Beverly Hills, California but graduated from Harvard-Westlake School.

Jennifer Eve "Jennie" Garth (born April 3, 1972) is an American actress and director, best known for starring in the prominent role of Kelly Taylor throughout the Beverly Hills, 90210 franchise. She currently stars in her own reality show, Jennie Garth: A Little Bit Country on CMT.

Jennie Garth was born in Urbana, Illinois to John and Carolyn Garth, each of whom already had three older children from previous marriages: Johnny, Chuck, Lisa, Cammie, Wendy and Lynn. Garth spent much of her youth on a 25-acre (100,000 m²) horse ranch in Arcola, Illinois. Her family eventually moved to Tuscola, Illinois, and then, when Garth was 13 years old, to Glendale, Arizona. There, she began taking dancing lessons and modeling, which led to her participation in a talent competition, where she was discovered by Hollywood talent scout and manager, Randy James. She attended Greenway High School as a freshman and later transferred to Apollo High School in her sophomore year. Determined to become an actress, she left school during her junior year to work with James in Los Angeles (she would later obtain her high school diploma in California^{[citation needed]}). She began taking acting classes and going to auditions almost daily, and soon landed a role as "Erica McCray" in the NBC TV series A Brand New Life (1989–90).
