The River Avill is a small river on Exmoor in Somerset, England.
It rises on the eastern slopes of Dunkery Beacon and flows north through Timberscombe and Dunster flowing into the Bristol Channel at Dunster Beach.
The Gallox Bridge in Dunster dates from the 15th century. It has been designated as a Grade I listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument. It is a narrow stone packhorse bridge, on the southern outskirts of Dunster, with two arches over the River Avill. It was originally known as Gallows Bridge and has a roadway width of 1.2 metres (3.9 ft), a total width of 1.9 metres (6.2 ft) and is 13.5 metres (44.3 ft) long. The river then skirts Dunster New Park surrounding Dunster Castle.
Near to Dunster Beach the stream is crossed by a bridge on the West Somerset Railway.
The river was part of the inspiration for the hymn All Things Bright and Beautiful.
This ford is located on Park Street in Dunster. It looked too cold an deep for me to cross at the time of filming. Well it was going to be oh so simple!...I bought a cheap Kayak today for £30, and spent the next few hours trying to find a Paddle, eventually tracked a damaged one for a Fiver, so up and running in no time for £35. Right, lets get this thing to some Water!...I did a few tentative Paddles and it really did feel unstable from the off. I thought, well I have come this far and even if I did capsize, it is barely a foot or so deep, so away I went, under the first Bridge and up to the first corner, ...Woh!...here we go!, it felt really good for the first 5 seconds, then the Back of the Kayak started to come around, so I tried to counter this, but I just ended up sideways!,, managed to hold on the Kayak, and dragged it over to the edge, where I tried to Drain it, but could only get so much wate...
Does what it says in the title... then I went for a stroll!
He successfully sailed a model boat down the Avill overflow channel and wanted to do the same himself. He sourced a second hand Kayak and a paddle the same day. He made a brave attempt, but his helmet camera showed he had capsized twice, not long after crossing under the main road bridge. The second time the Kayak got away from him and was swept down stream before he could catch hold of it.

Who will save the river valley? That's my drinking water
This was once a sacred place now, look at what we've got here
I'll pretend there isn't any problem, just do my job
And if I don't like the standard of living, go move to Russia...
(Dave & Jian)
Me and Pete went swimming last night, he's my friend from boy scouts
All the fish were floating upright, we got scared, and we got out
(Dave, w/ rest backing up certain phrases)
Mother says don't play down where your father does his job
And though he's got to make living, or move to Russia...
(Jian)
this is my world, this is my world, don't let it go away
is it a crime, spending my time, dreaming of yesterday
(Dave & Jian)
Meet me in the river valley, you can tell me stories
'Bout a time before pinstripe suits, dippers, grits, and tories
(Mike)
My mother sang the songs her mother taught her
and we'd be swimming off in cool, cool water
and when she'd call us from the yard
running home it felt like god...
(All)
This is my world, don't take it away...
(Dave & Jian)
Is your favourite place controlled by developing ambitions?
Do you think you'll have some power signing a petition?
Are you fine with your surroundings? Are they gonna crumble?
I'm living in the river valley, come and join me for a tumble!
(Mike)
High up above, see the cars up on the viaduct
from sunrise to the last call - they push their luck
and that would be fine
if the world was yours, and you were mine
(All) (Mike)
Who will save the river valley? (this is my world)
Who will save the river valley? (this is my world)
Who will save the river valley? (this is my world)
Who will save the river valley?
