Rex Ingram (October 20, 1895 – September 19, 1969) was an American stage, film, and television actor.
Ingram was born near Cairo, Illinois, on the Mississippi River; his father was a steamer fireman on the riverboat Robert E. Lee. Ingram graduated from the Northwestern University medical school in 1919 and was the first African-American man to receive a Phi Beta Kappa key from Northwestern University. He went to Hollywood as a young man where he was literally discovered on a street corner by the casting director for Tarzan of the Apes (1918), starring Elmo Lincoln. He made his (uncredited) screen debut in that film and had many other small roles, usually as a generic black native, such as in the Tarzan films. With the arrival of sound, his presence and powerful voice became an asset and he went on to memorable roles in The Green Pastures (1936), The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (the 1939 MGM version, opposite Mickey Rooney), The Thief of Bagdad (1940—perhaps his best-known film appearance—as the genie), The Talk of the Town (1942), and Sahara (1943).

Plot: In 1926 the tragic and untimely death of a silent screen actor caused female moviegoers to riot in the streets and in some cases to commit suicide - that actor was Rudolph Valentino. Ballroom dancer Valentino manipulated his good looks and animal-like grace into a Hollywood career. His smouldering love making, tinged with a touch of masterful cruelty, expressed a sexuality which was at once both shocking and sensual.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1921) is an American silent epic war film produced by Metro Pictures Corporation and directed by Rex Ingram. Based on the Spanish novel The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, it was adapted for the screen by June Mathis. The film stars Pomeroy Cannon, Josef Swickard, Bridgetta Clark, Rudolph Valentino, Wallace Beery, and Alice Terry. The film had a huge cultural impact, becoming the top-grossing film of 1921, beating out Charlie Chaplin's The Kid, and going on to become the sixth-best-grossing silent film of all time. The film turned then-little-known actor Rudolph Valentino into a superstar and associated him with the image of the Latin Lover. The film also inspired a tango craze and such fashion fads as gaucho pants. The film wa...

One of Rudy Valentino's break out roles in the early 20s, the portrayal of Arabs would be considered racist by today's standards, but it's still a very well made and watchable movie.

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is the Great American Novel from Mark Twain. And Mickey Rooney is the great screen Huck Finn, the high-spirited heart of this story of Huck, a boy running from civilization, and Jim (Rex Ingram), a man running from slavery. Together, they raft down the Mississippi into breathtaking adventure, pratfalling comedy and a soaring quest for liberty. Your favorite Huckleberry moments are here: skipping school to go fishin’, escaping from his vicious Pap, meeting Jim on Jackson Island, donning a dress and bonnet to sneak into town, sharing the raft with comic conmen (veteran actors Walter Connolly and William Frawley) who call themselves the King and the Duke. Come aboard if’n you have a yen for “borrowed” dinner fixin’s…and freedom!

The film was as controversial as the novel, although unlike its source material there was no prosecution for obscenity. Though both book and film were laced throughout with racy innuendo calling into question the issue of marital fidelity, it was the film adaptation that may have been the more alarming, in as much as it portrayed a popular uprising, or workers' insurrection, in the southern United States by laid-off mill workers trying to gain control of the factory equipment on which their jobs depended. Philip Yordan was officially given credit for the screenplay, but it was actually by Ben Maddow. Since Maddow was blacklisted for his radical, and suspected, but unproven, Communist activities during the 1950s Red Scare, working without credit was the only way he could successfully submit...
