Isoaminile was discovered by Hoechst AG in the 1950s. It is used under the trade-name (Peracon) as an antitussive and is structurally related to methadone. Hallucinogenic effects have been noted at 300 mg doses. The normal therapeutic dose is 40-80 mg of the cyclamate salt not to exceed five doses in a 24-hour period. In addition to central antitussive effects it is also an anticholinergic, exhibiting both antimuscarinic and antinicotinic actions.
