The visitors scored the opener through attacking midfielder Konstanin Vassiljev in the 24th minute, and held on to their slender 1-0 lead despite the home side threatening after the break. Norwegian wonderkid Odegaard could not rescue his team from defeat after coming on with half an hour left, but the youngster was given plenty of time to impress those tracking his every move. Odegaard, dubbed the 'Norwegian Messi' by some, recently admitted Liverpool are his 'dream club' ahead of visiting the facilities of the Barclays Premier League club in December. He has already trained with Bundesliga sides Bayern Munich and Stuttgart, met Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp and visited La Liga giants Real Madrid. On Wednesday night, Odegaard was given some 30 minutes to make his mark by Per-Mathias Hogmo, though his creative spark was wasted as his team-mates could not find the finishing touch. Odegaard himself had a late chance to equalise after cutting sharply inside, only to see his shot fly over the crossbar. The statistics suggest this match was one-sided. Norway had 15 shots to Estonia's seven, but the visitors never allowed the hosts to get back into the match during a tense second half. Vassiljev's opener was as simple as they come, too, and Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland will feel he could have done far better.
For a long time it had looked as though England might rack up one of their least distinguished results of the Roy Hodgson era. Estonia had been reduced to 10 men early in the second half yet Hodgson’s men had to toil away for another 25 minutes before the goal, direct from Wayne Rooney’s free-kick, that soothed their mood and maintained their immaculate start to this qualifying programme. There was no doubt they fully deserved the win but it still felt suspiciously like a reality check after the brief surge of new confidence that had accompanied beating Switzerland in their opening game of Group E. Estonia are 81st in Fifa’s world rankings, sandwiched by Saudi Arabia and Antigua and Barbuda, and do not be misled by the statistic that has been churned out over the last few days. They may have lost only one of their previous nine home matches but the opposition on that run included Azerbaijan, Gibraltar and Tajikistan. England were facing moderate opponents and this was a stodgy way of showing the gulf in quality. They did, however, eventually manage it courtesy of Rooney’s 73rd-minute free-kick, beating the Estonian goalkeeper, Sergei Pareiko, to move within one goal of emulating Jimmy Greaves’s total of 44 for the national team. Rooney is now five short of Gary Lineker’s 48, and six off equalling Sir Bobby Charlton’s record, and Hodgson ought to be grateful to his captain on a night when England had lacked penetration in attack and there was the slightly strange sub-plot of Raheem Sterling being left out of the starting XI after informing his manager he was “a little tired”. Sterling had played only 45 minutes of the 5-0 win against San Marino and it seems unusual for a 19-year-old to be complaining of fatigue not even two weeks into October. He was introduced after 64 minutes and it was a foul on the Liverpool player, just outside the penalty area, that led to the game’s decisive moment. Sterling might have had some fun from the start given the way England hogged the ball – the final possession statistics showed 77% in favour of Hodgson’s men but at times it was even higher – and they certainly missed his speed and directness during those long spells when they pinned back their opponents without being able to make the breakthrough. His place had gone to Adam Lallana who was predominantly involved at the most forward point of a midfield diamond. Jack Wilshere started in the more withdrawn role, with Fabian Delph and Jordan Henderson providing energy alongside him, in the system that Hodgson first used to good effect during the 2-0 win in Basel last month. Wilshere was more emboldened here, however, to venture into attacking positions. The system lacked natural width but England’s full-backs, Calum Chambers and Leighton Baines, had the licence to go forward and, on the whole, there was a reasonably good structure to the team. Yet England had to be patient. They were clearly the more refined team but, by half-time, Pareiko had hardly been overworked. Wilshere’s clipped through ball gave Rooney a chance that he took on the volley first time, looking for the spectacular, only to flash the shot just over the crossbar. That apart, however, there were only a couple of other half-chances when Estonia’s goal was genuinely threatened in that period and the odd moment or two when England looked vulnerable on the counterattack. They might also have been seriously embarrassed when the Estonian left-winger, Sergei Zenjov, had the chance to fire in a shot inside the opening minute. Estonia Adventure Travel - Although the smallest of the Baltic countries, Estonia makes its presence felt in the region with its lovely seaside towns, quaint country villages and verdant forests and marshlands ideal for an Adventure Travel to Estonia Covering vast swaths of Estonia, forests, wooded meadows and under-appreciated bog form the backdrop to numerous activities. Hiking over wooded trails, horse riding along coastline and canoeing over flooded forests can link you to the ancient wilderness. There's also great bird-watching, cross-country skiing in winter and swimming in crystal-clear lakes and rivers in summer. This all makes a nice prelude to a sauna, one of the national pastimes. With a day trip to another new country in Europe planned, we boarded a large ferry cruise boat (Tallink Cilja MS Star) en route from Helsinki, Finland to Tallinn, Estonia. http://nomadicsamuel.com/photo-essays/helsinki-travel-guide Well, today we're off on a journey. We're going to be visiting a new country in Europe. Estonia! Tallinn. We're taking the MS Star from Helsinki all the way to there. It's only a two hour trip, so it should be a really comfortable ride. So in this area they have all the private cabins for people who are doing an overnight cruise. This is definitely one of the largest ferries I've ever been on. There is actually nine different levels as you can see from this map. Wow, the weather has really changed. Within just 10 minutes we went from clear sunny skies to foggy, windy weather. We're not even out there on the deck right anymore. So we're now pulling into the harbor here in Tallinn, Estonia and it is a chilly nineteen degrees. It doesn't feel like summer. This is part of our Travel in Estonia series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Estonian culture, Estonian arts, Estonian foods, Estonian religion and Estonian people. As I told you in the last video, I went to see my grandmother who turned 90 years old. We celebrated her with a big dinner for friends and family, and it was really nice! It was good to catch up with everyone that I hadn't seen for some time as well. All in all, a very good weekend. I'll return to my packing now, for New Zealand and I'll see you in a couple of weeks with some new exiting videos and travel vlogs! Wayne Mark Rooney (born 24 October 1985) is an English footballer who plays as a striker for Premier League club Manchester United and the England national team.
Rooney made his senior international debut in 2003 becoming the youngest player to represent England (a record later broken by Theo Walcott). He is England's youngest ever goalscorer. He played at UEFA Euro 2004 and scored four goals, briefly becoming the competition's youngest goalscorer. Rooney featured at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and is widely regarded as his country's best player. He has won the England Player of the Year award twice, in 2008 and 2009. As of September 2011, he has won 73 international caps and scored 28 goals. Along with David Beckham, Rooney is the most red carded player for England, having been sent off twice.
Aged nine, Rooney joined the youth team of Everton, for whom he made his professional debut in 2002. He spent two seasons at the Merseyside club, before moving to Manchester United for £25.6 million in the 2004 summer transfer window. The same year, Rooney acquired the nickname "Wazza". Since then, with Rooney in the team, United have won the Premier League four times, the 2007–08 UEFA Champions League and two League Cups. He also holds two runner-up medals from both the Premier League and the Champions League. In April of the 2011–12 season Rooney scored his 180th goal, making him United's fourth highest goal-scorer of all time.
