The Chris Duarte Group
Screenwriter's Blues (a.k.a. that Los Angeles Song)
The Toad Tavern
Littleton, Colorado
August 2nd, 2014
Another great evening with The Chris Duarte Group at The Toad Tavern in Littleton, Colorado on August 2nd, 2014. After getting our butts rocked at The Dillon Amphitheater, the next night was The Toad Tavern. The band was in great form and seemed to be having a really good time. Chris made out his song list in Japanese which led to some Japanese discussion and lessons for the audience. A bunch of cool new material and great CDG standards before giving us an encore of the song Carelessness, one of my personal favorites from the recent My Soul Alone release. A Mahavishnu Orchestra inspired sonic assault! We even got a little medley of Chris singing the theme songs from some of his childhood Saturday morning favorites, ie: Josie and The Pussycats and The Banana Splits! Always an incredible show! I've been going to see Chris play since February 14th, 1992. For the record, I've never seen a bad show. This guy puts 150% into every performance and so do his band mates, and you can feel it when you're in the audience. You always go home feeling like you got your money's worth and then some!
This song was originally released by the group Soul Coughing. Chris took a liking to it, put a little CDG shine on it and it has become a fan favorite in his live music catalog. I say "live music catalog" because that's the only way to hear it. As of this posting, Chris has not released his version on CD yet. The correct title for the song is "Screenwriter's Blues", but it often gets referred to as "That Los Angeles song"!
We are all listening to Chris Duarte in Los Angeles...............
The new release is tentatively scheduled for this October. So far the working title is going to be "Lucky 13". The new songs that we heard were very cool, and John McKnight tells me there's some very wild stuff that we haven't heard yet! Looking forward to it!
