A sundial is a device that determines the time of day by the position of the Sun. In common designs such as the horizontal sundial, the sun casts a shadow from its style onto a surface marked with lines indicating the hours of the day. The style is the time-telling edge of the gnomon, often a thin rod or a sharp, straight edge. As the sun moves across the sky, the shadow-edge aligns with different hour-lines. All sundials must be aligned with the axis of the Earth's rotation to tell the correct time. In most designs, the style must point towards true celestial north (not the north magnetic pole or south magnetic pole). That is, the style's horizontal angle must equal the sundial's geographical latitude.
It is common for inexpensive decorative sundials to have incorrect hour angles, and these cannot be adjusted to tell correct time.[citation needed]
There are different types of sundials: Some sundials use a line of light to indicate the time. Others use the edge of a shadow. The spot of light may be formed by allowing the sun's rays through a small hole or reflecting them from a small circular mirror. A line of light may be formed by allowing the rays through a thin slit or focusing them through a cylindrical lens.
Richard Kell (born September 15, 1979 in Bishop Auckland) is an English footballer playing as a midfielder. He has broken his leg twice in his career.
Kell began his career as a junior with Middlesbrough, turning professional in July 1998 and soon becoming a regular in the reserve side at the Riverside Stadium. After failing to break into the first team, he joined Torquay United, initially on loan on February 7, 2001, making his league debut 3 days later, scoring in the 2-1 win against Lincoln City at Sincil Bank. The move was made permanent with a free transfer on the 9th of March, Kell signing a contract until the end of the season. For the remainder of the 2000-01 season, his qualities greatly enhanced a midfield which had particularly missed the injured Brian Healy since the start of the season, and he played a major role in Torquay avoiding relegation to the Conference. It later emerged that he had played for much of this time with a hip injury which required surgery during the summer. His recovery was further delayed by illness, but on July 31, 2001, he re-joined the Torquay squad in training on a trial basis under the new manager Roy McFarland. However, 5 days later Kell decided that his future lay elsewhere and left Torquay. It later emerged that he would have stayed at Torquay had Colin Lee remained as manager.
William Sanford "Bill" Nye (born November 27, 1955), popularly known as Bill Nye the Science Guy, is an American science educator, comedian, television host, actor, mechanical engineer, and scientist. He is best known as the host of the Disney/PBS children's science show Bill Nye the Science Guy (1993–1998) and for his many subsequent appearances in popular media as a science educator.
William Sanford Nye was born in Washington, D.C., the son of Jacqueline (née Jenkins; c. 1920–2000), a codebreaker during World War II, and Edwin Darby "Ned" Nye (died 1997), also a World War II veteran whose experience in a Japanese prisoner of war camp led him to become a sundial enthusiast. Nye is a fourth-generation Washington, D.C. resident on his father's side of the family. After attending Lafayette Elementary and Alice Deal Junior High in the city, he was accepted to the private Sidwell Friends School on a partial scholarship, graduating in 1973. He studied mechanical engineering at Cornell University, where one of his professors was Carl Sagan, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1977. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by The Johns Hopkins University in May 2008. In May 2011, Nye was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Willamette University where he was the keynote speaker for that year's commencement exercises.
Don't mind me, I've just got some problems to work out
I'm only passing through or maybe just right out
Somehow something set my sundial backwards tilted and
upside-down
Now the shadow hand is pointing time right out of town
I cease to see you when I start to shut my eyes
And I forget that I had said my last goodbyes
Quickly I reopen them and bid you all "Cheerio, my
friend"
This goes on for hours and it never seems to end
I don't remember what it is that I just said to you
I've got Anubis on my back and something in my shoe
Don't walk backwards, don't be jealous
You're so bloody overzealous
I think I think I am unsure of what to say
Live long and prosper while the winter melts away
Sticks and stones and traffic cones may keep me safe
while they break my bones
Needles live in haystacks like a swarm of tiny drones
Can't keep my extra senses charged for very long
Can't bear to tell you that you're wrong, so very wrong
Can't believe this brief reprieve is stretching outward
and up my sleeve
Simply begs the question, how could I be so naive?
I don't remember what it is that I just said to you
I've got Anubis on my back and something in my shoe
Don't walk backwards, don't be jealous
You're so bloody overzealous
Don't walk forwards, don't be silly, you're the heel
they call Achilles'
Don't enjoy this private screening, this one doesn't
In time, you will find
Many things found in the ordinary
Could it be, what you see
Many things are extraordinary
Every time when I look at you
Well I seem to find another thing behind the story
Every time when I look at you
Well I seem to find another dream behind the glory
And now it seems no time at all
The sundial wonders
How could you see nothing at all?
The sundial wonders on
Took a walk in the park
Walkin' all around in the after hour
Sometimes beneath the light
To take away all your love and power
Every time when I look into
Well I seem to find another scene behind the story
Every time when she looks at you
Well I seem to find another dream behind the glory
And now it seems no time at all
The sundial wonders
How could you see nothing at all?
The sundial wonders on
And now it seems no time at all
I'm a reflector a channel of sun
Perched here in gardens 'til I come undone
When leaves in their beauty trod over the glen
I'll be found here beside you 'cause my legs never bend
No longer am scared now
Of the world that brings scorn
I find hope in your promises
Of your Son in the morn
I'm a reflector a channel of love
Placed here in gardens 'til life comes undone
When winter comes calling, cold winds they draw nigh
I'll be caught up in your love, it's reflected in my eyes
No longer am scared now
I find hope in your presence (power)
N o longer am scared now
