In June of 2014, we spent 11 days surfing the Mentawai Islands. The conditions were perfect the entire trip with light offshore winds and plenty of swell to go around. This video is about how we spent two weeks of our life in the Mentawai Islands.
We had 9 lads and 3 girls enjoying the paradise. Some of us came back to this same resort for a second time in one years time, - all the way from Finland. We can tell you its more than worth it !:D
Surfing, swimming, snorkeling, diving and enjoying delicious local food. Sleeping in a surf resort and feeling the local atmosphere is just something that you have to experience at least once in a lifetime or better once in a year ;) Also meeting the Mentawais indigenous people and getting to know their culture is an amazing and extraordinary experience.
The common thinking about Mentawais is that you cant surf the waves if you are not a pro but thats not true. Around the year there is always places to surf wether you are a beginner or professional surfer. If you want to experience Mentawai Islands the local way just contact us. Perfect waves, empty paradise islands and breathtaking sunsets are waiting for you. :)
Getting here to enjoy this paradise is surprisingly easy and affordable for an average lad like us. If you want to know more about the resort, local people getting here etc.

Mentawai Islands Regency
The Mentawai Islands are a chain of about seventy islands and islets off the western coast of Sumatra in Indonesia. Siberut (4,030 km2) is the largest of the islands. The other major islands are Sipura, North Pagai (Pagai Utara) and South Pagai (Pagai Selatan). The islands lie approximately 150 km off the Sumatran coast, across the Mentawai Strait. The indigenous inhabitants of the islands are known as the Mentawai people. The Mentawai Islands have become a noted destination for surfing.
Administration
The Mentawai Islands have been administered as a regency within the West Sumatra (Sumatera Barat) province since 1999. The regency seat is Tua Pejat, on the island of Sipora. Padang, the capital of the province, lies on the Sumatran mainland opposite Siberut. The regency is divided into ten districts (kecamatan), tabulated below from south to north with their 2010 Census populations.

We had 9 lads and 3 girls enjoying the paradise. Some of us came back to this same resort for a second time in one years time, - all the way from Finland. We can tell you its more than worth it !:D
Surfing, swimming, snorkeling, diving and enjoying delicious local food. Sleeping in a surf resort and feeling the local atmosphere is just something that you have to experience at least once in a lifetime or better once in a year ;) Also meeting the Mentawais indigenous people and getting to know their culture is an amazing and extraordinary experience.
The common thinking about Mentawais is that you cant surf the waves if you are not a pro but thats not true. Around the year there is always places to surf wether you are a beginner or professional surfer. If you want to experience Mentawai Islands the local way just contact us. Perfect waves, empty paradise islands and breathtaking sunsets are waiting for you. :)
