ALBANY -- The center is showing years of wear and tear, Jerry Jennings, Albany mayor. Mayor Jennings didn't have much else to say about the proposed face lift, but he did say it would a good thing for the city.We want the NCAA, we want whatever we can get, said Jennings.The facelift would make the Times Union Center a bit more user friendly for fans attending things like the NCAA tournaments. County Executive Dan McCoy explained how that could be made possible.We open up the arena so it feels bigger, we can attract more media so we have more space to work with, said Dan McCoy, Albany County Executive.Enclosing the entrance way would preserve the escalators and elevators, which can be exposed to weather and pigeons. Finding the box office currently is a bit challenging if you are walking in off the street. Another big step would be to make it more handicap accessible.They've got handicap bathrooms on the level around the arena so you watch people that try to get down the stairs. It would be nice if we had bathrooms up here, said McCoy.This would be part of a bigger project tied into a Convention Center, but the price tag on for this wish list?Anywhere from 6 to 11 million dollars, said McCoy.
