Kiev, Ukraine. February 2014. The 2014 Ukrainian revolution began with a series of violent episodes of civil unrest in Kiev, Ukraine, as part of Ukraine's ongoing Euromaidan protest movement against the government. The conflict escalated rapidly, leading to the downfall of the government of President Viktor Yanukovych and the setting up of a new government to replace it within a few days. Yanukovych fled to Russia, and is wanted in Ukraine for the killing of protesters. Yulia Marushevska, 24-year-old Ukrainian activist, appeared first in a video ("I am a Ukrainian") to ask for support for the protests in Kiev. The anonymous plea to the world went viral on the Internet during the days of the Revolution, garnering over seven million views. Doctor Olga Bogomolets volunteered to treat protesters and has become one of the most prominent figures in the popular uprising that has shaken Ukraine and driven the country's president into exile.

In the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, the name of a young dolphin hopes to become a symbol of hope for the future of the troubled region. The baby dolphin, that has been named PEACE, is a theatrical performer at Nemo Dolphin-arium. There was only a small audience viewing the dolphin performance on Tuesday. Officials for the dolphin-arium say the low turnout may have been due to political tensions in the city. Dolphin trainer Olga Nenko believes that the young dolphin's name is moving and touching while political unrest continues across the country.

The State Anthem of Ukraine (Ukrainian: Держа́вний гі́мн Украї́ни) is the name of the official national anthem of Ukraine. The anthem's music was officially adopted by Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada on January 15, 1992. The official lyrics were adopted on March 6, 2003 by "the Law on the Anthem of Ukraine. A version of the current Ukrainian anthem was used during the short-lived existence of Ukrainian People's Republic, West Ukrainian People's Republic and Carpatho-Ukraine, and was once again adopted by independent Ukraine following its secession from the Soviet Union. Before its re-adaptation a competition for a national anthem among three patriotic songs took place with one of the other songs being Za Ukrainu by Mykola Voronyi. The lyrics constitute a slightly modified original first stanza of the patriotic poem written in 1862 by Pavlo Chubynsky, a prominent ethnographer from the region of Ukraine's capital, Kiev. In 1863, Mykhailo Verbytsky, a western Ukrainian composer and a Greek-Catholic priest composed music to accompany Chubynsky's text. The first choral performance of the piece was at the Ukraine Theatre in Lviv, in 1864. Some researches believe that the Polish song ""Jeszcze Polska nie zgineła", which later became Polish state anthem, also had an influence on Chubynskyi's lyrics.[9] At the time, Dombrovsky March was very popular among nations that were fighting for their independence (for instance, few months after Chubynskyi wrote his lyrics, the January Uprising began. Likewise, influenced by this polish song, Slovak poet Samo Tomášik wrote a song "Hey, Slavs", which later became Yugoslavia's anthem in 1944-2003. Another popular version of this polish song, Bulgaria "Noises of Mariza" was Bulgarian anthem in 1886-1944. What difference is between the military operation and the war? The second notion is what the current Ukrainian president Oleksandr Turchynov proclaimed in the East of the country. The first notion is what, from the point of view of many people, actually happens in Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. And it seems that those who fight against the Ukrainian citizens in the East are mostly the mercenaries. Sergey Baryshnikov, director of the Center for political analysis and technologies in Donetsk -- city that became the epicenter of the military operation for now. "Off course, we have the feeling of the threat here. It seems that Slavyansk became the hottest spot on the political map of the post-soviet area -- maybe even the world. But, as we can notice, Donetsk itself is still under control of the militia that acts from the name of Donetsk People's Republic. It seems that the rebels from Kiev cant' achieve anything yet even using the heavy armament and vehicles. As for the victims -- there are some, I think. But these are the isolated cases. I don't know whether the direct combat fighting will take place or not. For now I don't think that such fighting takes place. Maybe, the actions of Putin and Obama will cool it off. Maybe, USA and the West will be able to reduce tensions, or, maybe, on the contrary, they will support and stimulate the illegitimate political leaders in Kiev. From the first day of their illegal seizure of power in Kiev we don't recognize them and don't accept them here. This is our principal position here in Donetsk: these people in power there in Kiev are the insurgents and we here are the defenders of the constitutional system and the agreements that were signed by the president Yanukovich on the February 21. We are sure that we have the right to call them the insurgents, the rebels, the separatists, because all the processes that caused the disintegration of Ukraine were stimulated by them. They fueled the engines of destruction, they encroached a power and they came to power by means of the mutiny.
