The Meteors are an English psychobilly band formed in 1980. Originally from London, England, they are often credited with giving the psychobilly subgenre—which fuses punk rock with rockabilly—its distinctive sound and style. Though the origins of psychobilly are debated, The Meteors are the first band to self-identify as psychobilly, and are often credited with the distinction of being the only "pure" psychobilly band among fans of the subgenre.
Fans of the band (known as the Wrecking Crew) are known to use the slogan "Only The Meteors are Pure Psychobilly", (often shortened to "OTMAPP")
The Meteors were started in 1980 by P. Paul Fenech (guitar and vocals), Nigel Lewis (upright bass/electric bass) and vocals), and Mark Robertson (drums). Fenech and Lewis had played in rockabilly bands before, but left their former band, Raw Deal, in order to experiment with a new sound that mixed horror and science fiction lyrics with a punk rock / rockabilly crossover (as distinct from the slower, psychedelic rockabilly sound of the Cramps). This sound would later be called psychobilly. What made them unique was that Fenech and Lewis each sang lead vocals on their own tracks.
Knockout Entertainment is singer Ray J's vanity label, founded in 2001. The label specializes in R&B, hip hop, and gospel. Originally released under Sanctuary Records, a press release in December 2007 announced a new partnership with E1 Records. Before this, he as mentioned his label on his 2001 album This Ain't A Game.
The label's debut, Ray J's Raydiation album—released September 2005—included the top twenty hit "One Wish" and went on to sell 1 million copies worldwide. Other releases include Willie Norwood's gospel album titled I Believe, which was not released in conjunction with any other label, and was only available as a digital download or through CD Baby and top-twenty albums Ray J's All I Feel and sister Brandy's Human.
"In Heaven" is a song originally part of the soundtrack to the David Lynch film Eraserhead, where it is sung by the Lady in the Radiator (Laurel Near). The song was written and performed for the film by Peter Ivers, and was included on the soundtrack album.
The song was sung by fans of English psychobilly band The Meteors at the start of their 1981 debut album The Case of The Meteors in Heaven on Lost Soul Records.
It was covered by The Pixies as part of the recording session for their initial demo tape; this version was released in 2002 on the Pixies EP. The band re-recorded the track for a session for John Peel's BBC radio show in May 1988, which was later released on the Pixies at the BBC album. The song was a regular part of the Pixies' setlist, and a live version by the band appeared as a B-side of the "Gigantic" single, and was also included on The Complete B-Sides album. A version of the song was recorded by the Joe Harvard Band for the Pixies tribute album Dig for Fire, although it was omitted from the final album track listing.

LONG KNIVES 10 CARAVANS easy money The Caravans were a British band from the south coast. They started in 1984 and were one of many bands to be found in the rockabilly boom of the mid eighties. Triggered by the success of bands like The Polecats, Stray Cats and The Jets, an alternative scene fronted by The Meteors, Guana Batz, Stingrays, etc. emerged, and The Caravans slotted nicely into it playing uptempo, hard-hitting but melodic rockabilly. At home they graced the stages of Dingwalls, Gossips (Gaz's Rockin' Blues), 'More than Vegas', St. Moritz... etc, etc. www.cherryred.co.uk
Psychobilly’s official place, date, and time of birth are points of debate, but two bands generally get credit for the musical midwifery. Only one of them, enduring British trio The Meteors, accepts the honor, and while that group certainly pioneered psychobilly as it became known and codified in early-’80s Britain, there’s no denying the importance of the other, The Cramps. Spawned in the mid-’70s, when an Ohio oddball born Erick Purkhiser picked up a hitchhiking guitarist and fellow Sacramento State student named Kristy Wallace, The Cramps was arguably the first band to Frankenstein together punk, rockabilly, and trashy B-movie imagery, the three essential elements of psychobilly. Except Purkhiser and Wallace were too clever, sexy, funny, and eclectic in their tastes to be shoehorned int...
A very interesting documentary about the early years of that musical monster created in the late 70's, often poorly described as a mix of punk and rockabilly. Although the shooting and the editing is not very dynamic, and you can regret the lack of archives footage, the interview are really well done and make you feel the excitement of these early days of a bunch of kids who wanted to push the boundaries of Rockabilly toward something new. Interviewed witnesses are well chosen too. You have musicians from influential bands that all helped defined the genre in their own way : Nigel Lewis (Meteors), Alan Wilson (Sharks), Steve Whitehouse (Sharks and Frenzy), Chuck Harvey (Frantic Flintstones), Eric and Jeroen Haamer (Batmobile), Mark Harman (Restless), Mark Pennington (Caravans), Humungus (C...

"When his punk band, the Pop Rivets, broke up in 1980, Billy Childish formed a new group with Mickey Hampshire, a Pop Rivets roadie who had been performing in a group called Mickey and the Milkshakes. The two began writing songs together and released their first LP, Talkin’ About, in 1981. With Childish on guitar and vocals, Hampshire on guitar and vocals, Bruce Brand on drums, and Russ Wilkins (later replaced by John Agnew) on bass, the Milkshakes sound was a primitive blend of British beat groups, like the early Kinks at their toughest, and hard-rocking American guitar instrumentalists, like Link Wray. This sound came to be known as the “Medway sound” and Childish has been playing a variation on it throughout his whole career. The Milkshakes were a very prolific group, recording nine rec...
My only recollection of this band was their dynamic appearance on `The Old Grey Whistle Test` after which I bought this album and I could only get it as a US import (No UK Issue) I never heard of them again after that, with some research it seems they were a local phenomenon in their hometown Philadelphia . Though obscure a mint US Pressing can still be picked up fairly reasonably but make sure it has the Lyric/Picture inner sleeve. While it is surprising that the band didn’t really become bigger even with a large label they did still record a great rock album, why not subscribe as I add Rarities & Obscurities regularly Side 1 1 After Last Night 2 C.I.A. 3 5 Minutes In A Hero's Life 4 Words 5 Parasite Side 2 1 Artificial Love 2 Who's Gonna Save The World 3 Teenage Jerk Off 4 Grou...
This rarely seen but brilliant PBS documentary candidly shows the reality of the darker side of professional boxing. Made in 1992, it closely follows the career of a young Shannon Briggs and features fascinating and honest interviews with Evander Holyfield, Larry Holmes, Teddy Atlas, the late Dan Duva, Kathy Duva, Lou Duva, Bobby Czyz, Bob Arum, Mike Marley with an appearance from the Greatest himself, Muhammad Ali. For any serious fan of boxing, this is seriously not to be missed! Ripped from an old VHS copy, apologies for the slightly ropey quality in places.

TV: What’s your opinion about the newcomer bands in the psychobilly scene? Do you listen to their music? PPF: I listen to everything. Even bands I don’t like, I study. You should always know your enemy. There are a lot of good bands. I work with some of them. They’re not always gonna be famous and maybe people can’t understand why I like a band, for instance like the Snakes. I look at bands for more than what they play. It can be a crap band but good people. Ah, I can’t explain that really. But there are some good bands – there and there are some crap-bands that really take the piss out of our rock ‘n’ roll psychobilly lifestyle. They don’t do us any good. Do you believe in Freddy Krueger 'cause he takes so many lives?
Well, I believe in showmanship; I believe in Doctor Phibes
Why do you waste your time on "Halloween Part XXIX"?
And what more could you want than "Planet Earth" and Dylan Hunt?
I know I've said it all before, but I want more
