Aberdeen (2000)
Plot
Kaisa is a Scot, a successful London lawyer, who snorts coke and has one-night stands with strangers. Her mother calls from Aberdeen with some story begging her to fly to Norway and collect her alcoholic dad whom she hasn't seen in years. The impatient Kaisa reluctantly agrees. The story is a ruse: mom is dying and wants her ex and her daughter together again. The trip gets complicated (dad is too drunk to fly and the hot-tempered Kaisa gets them banned from the airline): they go by ferry then car, needing a great deal of help along the way from a sweet lorry driver named Clive. Will they reach Aberdeen before mom's death, and will Kaisa find any stability within herself or in others?

2014 NKF Scotland International Karate Festival
On the 24th and 25th May 2014, the National Karate Federation of Scotland held its annual International Karate Festival. The objective of this event is twofold. Firstly, to bring together great karate Masters from overseas to share learning experiences with NKF Scotland members and, secondly, to display to the public elements of traditional karate-do practiced within our federation.
Karate Masters in attendance; Paul Kee (7th Dan Scandinavian Kata Champion, Sweden), Alf Ronnie Fagerland (6th Dan, NKF Norway) and Duncan McPherson (5th Dan Wado Ryu), joined Ronnie Watt (OBE ORS 8th Dan NKF Scotland President & WKC Director of Shotokan) and senior instructors for the weekend.
Over the course of the weekend, NKF Scotland members learned a great deal from the Masters. Paul Kee focussed on details of advanced kata and discussing self-defence moves hidden within kata, Alf Ronnie Fagerland worked on improving basic technique, kata, motivation and discipline. All NKF Scotland members and instructors learned a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed being taught by such an array of experts. The experience was truly unique.
The Festival culminated in a display by NKF Scotland of traditional karate-do to the public, international karate Masters and VIP's. Joining the event were special guests, Mr Kitaoka(Consul General of Japan), Mrs Kitaoka, Lord Charles Bruce and Maureen Watt MSP being Alex Salmond's representative at the festival. During the display, the audience enjoyed watching elements of a typical karate training session by the children, followed by a display of kata and advanced self defence techniques. Following the group displays, the finals of the 2014 NKF kumite and kata Championships were held with Mr Kitaoka and Lord Charles Bruce awarding medals and trophies. An excellent display of highland dancing and bagpipe music was also included, performed by world champion dancer Becca Hobart supported by the Strath Islay Pipers. This was followed by Shihan Ronnie awarding the Scottish Samurai Awards. This year the Scottish Samurai Awards were presented to Fred Dalgarno, Colin Taylor(Dean of guilds of the Burgesses of Aberdeen) and Alex Johnstone MSP(who was instrumental in setting up the Japan Scotland cross party group). The Scottish Samurai (Shogun) was awarded to Alex Salmond, this was received by Maureen Watt on his behalf. Also awarded this year was our first Norwegian Samurai -- Alf Ronnie Fagerland. This award is presented each year to individuals who have fostered significant cultural links between Scotland and Japan.
The medal winning squad, coaches and referees that attended the 2014 WKC German Open Championships were presented with a special medal by Shihan Ronnie in recognition of their success at the Championship. Carole Kelman, Trevor Runcie, Chris Davidson, Ken McNeil and Richard Athawes were given special recognition by Shihan Ronnie for the work they performed behind the scenes in preparation of the festival.
A special mention must also be given to Andy Forbes from Dolphin Drilling for arranging sponsorship from Dolphin for the Samurai Awards and also Tony Williamson of Aberdeen Hydraulics Limited for partially sponsoring the tournament trophies.
The 2014 International Karate Festival was, yet again, a significant success. The vision of, each year, bringing to Scotland international karate masters to share learning experiences and to display honest, traditional karate-do to the public was accomplished.

Firstly, to bring together great karate Masters from overseas to share learning experiences with NKF Scotland members and, secondly, to display to the public elements of traditional karate-do practiced within our federation.
Karate Masters in attendance; Paul Kee (7th Dan Scandinavian Kata Champion, Sweden), Alf Ronnie Fagerland (6th Dan, NKF Norway) and Duncan McPherson (5th Dan Wado Ryu), joined Ronnie Watt (OBE ORS 8th Dan NKF Scotland President & WKC Director of Shotokan) and senior instructors for the weekend.
Over the course of the weekend, NKF Scotland members learned a great deal from the Masters. Paul Kee focussed on details of advanced kata and discussing self-defence moves hidden within kata, Alf Ronnie Fagerland worked on improving basic technique, kata, motivation and discipline. All NKF Scotland members and instructors learned a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed being taught by such an array of experts. The experience was truly unique.
The Festival culminated in a display by NKF Scotland of traditional karate-do to the public, international karate Masters and VIP's. Joining the event were special guests, Mr Kitaoka(Consul General of Japan), Mrs Kitaoka, Lord Charles Bruce and Maureen Watt MSP being Alex Salmond's representative at the festival. During the display, the audience enjoyed watching elements of a typical karate training session by the children, followed by a display of kata and advanced self defence techniques. Following the group displays, the finals of the 2014 NKF kumite and kata Championships were held with Mr Kitaoka and Lord Charles Bruce awarding medals and trophies. An excellent display of highland dancing and bagpipe music was also included, performed by world champion dancer Becca Hobart supported by the Strath Islay Pipers. This was followed by Shihan Ronnie awarding the Scottish Samurai Awards. This year the Scottish Samurai Awards were presented to Fred Dalgarno, Colin Taylor(Dean of guilds of the Burgesses of Aberdeen) and Alex Johnstone MSP(who was instrumental in setting up the Japan Scotland cross party group). The Scottish Samurai (Shogun) was awarded to Alex Salmond, this was received by Maureen Watt on his behalf. Also awarded this year was our first Norwegian Samurai -- Alf Ronnie Fagerland. This award is presented each year to individuals who have fostered significant cultural links between Scotland and Japan.
The medal winning squad, coaches and referees that attended the 2014 WKC German Open Championships were presented with a special medal by Shihan Ronnie in recognition of their success at the Championship. Carole Kelman, Trevor Runcie, Chris Davidson, Ken McNeil and Richard Athawes were given special recognition by Shihan Ronnie for the work they performed behind the scenes in preparation of the festival.
A special mention must also be given to Andy Forbes from Dolphin Drilling for arranging sponsorship from Dolphin for the Samurai Awards and also Tony Williamson of Aberdeen Hydraulics Limited for partially sponsoring the tournament trophies.
The 2014 International Karate Festival was, yet again, a significant success. The vision of, each year, bringing to Scotland international karate masters to share learning experiences and to display honest, traditional karate-do to the public was accomplished.
