Stechford crash: Baby killed 'after his dad crashes recovery truck into wall which falls onto son'
A dad is believed to have accidentally killed his son when his truck hit a wall, sending bricks crashing down on the child's buggy.
The baby boy was hit by a wall after it was knocked over by a recovery truck at 5pm last night in a suburban street in Stechford, Birmingham.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene with a serious head injury. Neighbours today claimed the baby's dad was driving the truck and hit the wall, before it collapsed onto his son.
One man who lives next door said: "The dad was driving his van and he obviously didn't see his son. He often reverses it on and off the drive and he hit the wall which collapsed on his lad.
"I could see the man crying his eyes out, he was a mess, he was really in a bad way."
Mary Mason, 67, a neighbour in Stechford, Birmingham, said: "I saw it reversing as I looked out of my window and then it lurched forward and I heard a massive crash. I looked out and their garden wall had collapsed."
Police comforting the family said: "Words can't describe what they are going through."
Forensics were last night examining the scene
Resident Jonathan Davies, 77, said: "They are a large family and very close. They are really nice and pleasant. It's very sad this has happened."
A white forensic tent could be seen outside the semi-detached home where the incident happened.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Officers were called... following a report a recovery truck had hit a wall, which had then fallen on the child.
"The boy – who has not been formally identified - suffered a serious head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.
